My weekend project

Lunamaria's Photo Lunamaria 18 Jun 2012

After work on Friday I went down to my hobby shop to buy paint for my Tamiya Sd.Kfz. 251 half track. To my surprise I found a very reasonably priced Tamiya 1:48 scale F4F-4 Wildcat. I am a sucker for the Wildcat so I just had to buy it. I then proceeded to spend much of the weekend on it. It is now Sunday night and all the basic work is done. In the coming days I will apply the decals (there are quite a few), weather it (attempt to at least, I just started weathering), and apply a wash to make the panel line pop and help blend it all together.

It is painted and will be decaled to represent a member of VF-41 based on the USS Ranger, circa 1942.

My first kit was a Lancaster, about 40yrs ago lol...great hobby. Do you hang them or let them stand ?

If I get any time these days I'm searching out binary pulsars (spinning neutron stars) for Max Plank Institute of Astrophysics.

As it happens my eldest sons next birthday, he will be getting his first kit (you just helped me decide).

I don't mind posting more pics, but I only started building models again late last year, after about 15 years off. The collection currently only includes 1 other plane (a Do.335), and 5 tanks (Panzer III, Panther, M3 Lee, Hetzer, and KV-2). Still interested?

I used to hang them when I was a kid, now I let them stand.

Awesome! The last thing I tried to build failed so hard, I shot it to death with airsoft guns.

Very nice work. I have never had enough time to do these kind of things.

Think the biggest project i had was building the great wall of texas with legos when i was a kid lol.

Very nice!  I too would love to see some more pictures!  I had so many back in the day, I think I must have had 10 hanging in my room back in the day.  I even did a few Balsa models.

Well, since some people were interested in seeing more; here is the rest of my collection.

We will start with the ever popular Dornier Do. 335 Pfeil

Compared in size of the Wildcat. Both are the same scale.

This Pz.III was the 1st model I build since I was a teenager.

I got this Panther for Christmas and it was the next Tank I build, and the 1st I tried camo on.

I found this Hetzer in the hobby shot next.

After the Hetzer came this cute little M3 Lee.

And finally the KV-2 I build for the WoT model contest.

A size comparison between all the Tanks.
Posted ImagePosted Image

All the Tanks are 1:35 scale.
The Panther and Lee are Tamiya, the Hetzer and Pz.III are Dragon, and the KV-2 is Zvezda.
Both planes are 1:48 scale.
The Wildcat is Tamiya and the Do.335 is Revell.
I have a Tamiya Tiger 1, Sdkfz 251 half track, and Pak40/L46 anti-tank gun waiting to be build. I also have a Tamiya KV-1 and King Tiger coming in the mail. All are 1:35 scale.

Oh, and George, I like those books too :P
