Project Excelsior
There is no breathable air, at the same time the sun is searing your skin with intense radiation it would also freeze due to the extremely low temperatures; gas bubbles would begin to form within your circulatory system, you might even feel the saliva in your mouth and the moisture on your eyes turn to steam before you expired.  Mankind is not naturally equipped to traverse the outer reaches of the Earth’s atmosphere, but with the dedication and perseverance of more than a few individuals we’ve secured a tenuous ability to explore the space around our planet, and consequently, we’ve developed methods for returning should things go amiss...

“100 Words”(EU Contest)
With the recent launch of our Closed Beta Test, we understand that many of you are extremely keen to earn your wings and get involved as soon as possible.

Therefore, the EU Community Team is pleased to announce the first of our upcoming contests for Closed Beta entry. The premise couldn’t be simpler: you have up to 100 words (and no more!) in which to explain, describe or otherwise state why you believe you should receive access to the World of Warplanes Closed Beta.

Your submission can be written in any format you choose… a poem, a letter, a (very) short story, anything! We are looking for those entries that show innovation and ingenuity, something a little different or special, and above all those that demonstrate a genuine interest and passion for World of Warplanes and its on-going testing process.

In order to participate in the contest, please send your entries to our dedicated contests email address: contests_eu@wargaming.net with the subject line “World of Warplanes: 100 Words”.

Please also ensure that you include the following in your email:

Your contest entry text and the number of words you used;
Your in-game name or account email address;
A statement of whether or not you would be willing to have your entry published on the World of Warplanes game portal, if successful.
Note: Unfortunately we can only accept submissions in English at this time. Consideration will, however, be made for those that may not have English as a first language.

The deadline for this initial round will be 14:00 CEST (12:00 GMT) on Friday, 15 June.

After the deadline, we will review the entries and award Closed Beta access to all those that best fit the brief. Yes, that’s right – there is no limit on the number of winners and any number of applicants can be chosen!

[url=http://forum-eu.worldofwarplanes.com/index.php?/topic/3932-world-of-warplanes-beta-entry-contest-%E2%80%9C100-words%E2%80%9DAdditional rules and guidelines[/url] can be found on the forums. Please make sure to read them through before sending in your entry.

Good luck, and get writing!

This Weeks Top Ten Facts - By Toshibathefriendlyzombie
Heres how it works, i have made 10 categories, and i will give you a random fact each week! Simple!

Tomorrow: Virgin Galactic is nearing the maiden launch of its spaceship, and already has 500 customers who have signed up to go to space, including Brad Pitt, Ashton Kutcher, Michael Schumacher, Paris Hilton, Princess Beatrice of the United Kingdom, Rubens Barrichello, Stephen Hawking, Tom Hanks, and ofcourse, Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin brand, and his family.
Today:  The Gulfstream G650 is the worlds fastest passenger aircraft currently flying, with a max speed of 0.925 (0.075 away from the speed of sound!)
Post Cold War :  The F18 Hornet was actually spawned from the YF17, a jet that was proposed for the USAF rather than the Navy, but lost out against the F16. The YF17 was enlarged and modified as per the Navy’s requirements.
Cold war era: Did you know that in actual fact, the Mig 15 and F86 Sabre were virtually equal in performace – but the only thing that made the Sabre shine against the Mig 15 in the Korean was was the lack of skill of the Korean pilots
WW1-WW2 era: A pilot of a Gloster Meteor (the first allied jet fighter) was accredited with downing  a V1 flying bomb by using his wing to roll the bomb over, causing it to crash
Space flight:  The skylon SSTO (single stage to orbit) is a privately funded space vehicle developed by the UK that takes off and lands like a normal plane, but can reach orbital altitude to deliver payloads, and possibly passengers
Airliners:  Concorde had 2 competitors. One was the TU-144 and the other was the lesser known Boeing 2707
Military: Jet packs were a real invention during World War 2, and not out of science fiction. They were designed to be carried by troops, but they were found to dangerous, unreliable and impractical for actual use, so the project was cancelled.
Helicopters : The Mi-26 Halo is the largest helicopter that is currently operational, and powerful enough to lift a Ch47 Chinook helicopter, and even some airliners such as the TU 134!
Random Fact: The Mig 28s” in the film Top Gun are actually fictional, and are portayed by T28 Talons painted black with red stars as their insignia.

Correction: on fact of sabers vs. Mig-15's: To my best knowledge...   The Migs actually had slightly better performance, and a strong cannon suite though slower firing rate. The sabers had the advantage that the aiming sight was radar assisted and helped enormously to lead the shells at high speed.  Further more, though its true that the N.Korean pilots had very little experience it was also known that Soviet Pilots were also envolved in the air battle with several becoming aces - they had more experience than the US crews and were known [US] to them by the nickname "Honchos" because they were litteraly a tier above the threat posed by the N.Korean Mig-15 pilots. One Soviet Pilot even got a special nickname by the american crews of "casey jones" by his tactics of remaining above the air battle waiting for a stray unwary apponent... i believe he was the highest scoring ace of the conflict - if i'm not mistaken 21 kills   Cheers.

@ reaver, well, performance was marginally better in the grand scale of things, thats why i say virtually equal. They flew similar, with similar performance, and most historians agree that whilst the Mig 15 did have the slight edge, the two aircraft were pretty much on par with performance. Furthermore, the fact that the sabre had the radar for example made performance statistics negligable on the Mig, on the basis of each had their own pros and cons, but were an even match.  Soviet pilots were known to have flown in the korean war but what i was refering to is the US pilots vs Korean pilots, but i do agree that indeed the soviet pilots were more a match for the US pilots.

@rinying, go ahead and google Virgin Galactic. it is a legitamate company now that participated in the Ansari X prize to build the first commercial space craft that would give a boost to space tourism.  It will carry 6 passengers at a time and give 6 minutes of 0 g time in space. it will fly at approx 361,000ft, lower than the space shuttle which flies in orbit, but still in space (the boundary of space is 100km, Virgin will fly to 110km) http://www.virgingal...iew/spaceships/
