I finished specializing my 109 F (33 battles with a 50% win rate - had some rough games the last few nights).

 

Overall, I've rather enjoyed the F - more than I thought I would.    I did all right in it - even got Hero of the Skies in one battle (that we lost due to elimination).  Most of the games (off the top of my head) I flew well even if we lost - seeing 10K personal points on average and having games where 3 or 4 sectures were capped and getting Grade III or better almost as much as Grade IV and V tells me I might be getting better at this game.   Or, more likely, I had a lucky run LOL.

 

Speed, power and manueverability are all great.   Yes, the guns are weak - noticeably weaker than the E.    But I still managed to bring down 295 aerial targets with a kill ratio of 6.28.  And a bucket of assists (which actually was OK as it finished period II for a couple of daily assist missions).

 

A quick glance at plane compare in the tech tree tells me the G should be an improvement over the F, at least gun wise.   But I see it has a 30mm, and I've heard that's a hard weapon to hit reliably with.

 

I'll pick up the G this coming week - and after that, it looks like the German Meschermitt line will be my next tech tree Tier VIII.

The 209 is great.  The Gustav is good, too, but T7.  T7 sucks for MM.

Corsair: I've seen you in battle with the F. You did great - more than "all right" in the game I saw!

I liked the G much more than F.

The airframe has been hitting the roids & the gym, its chonkier with muscular curves.

The engine has been making the gains and with 650hp increase the plane has notably better performance.

The hub gun piled it on & 30mm hits hard.

 

The main down-side is 30mm is slow velocity & short ranged.

Like the 109 F you need to get close & then burst (click click click rather than click & hold). Unlike the 109 F you need to lead a lot if you're turning.

At least the 30mm won't make you feel so dingy anymore, yet it still got the dinginess on the firepower...

Yeah...I've dealt with big guns on other planes (P-38F/J, Tu-1, Bf 110 C-6), so I know it'll take me a bit to get the lead down for the 30s.   The F has helped me click click click rather than click & hold, though I still need to get better at paying attention to range, as (anecdotal obeservation) the 20s on the F seem to be weak at the end of their range.

 

Everything else on the G looks appealing, and since it seems the 30s play a prominent role in the German line the higher you go, I might as well start getting used to them.

Thanks.  That was probably my best game ever in the F, even though my team snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.  If I hadn't collided with that GAA after squall and if the last blue bot had held on a little bit longer, another tick or two and we'd have had it.  Overall though I found the F to be pretty enjoyable, once I got used to not being able to take everything out of the sky like I could with the E.

Not for the Messerschmitt light fighters - the 209's final upgrade is single shot MK 103, while the P.1092 and P.1101 both work on the excellent 20mm revolvers. The 30mms are widely used - on the main Focke-Wulf branch, stock armaments for Blohm und Voss batplanes, heavy fighters, and GAAs though...all of which which handle vastly differently from the Messerschmitt LFs.  i.e. you won't be sticking with the 30mms for long on the LF line....and all those planes got more than one of the thing.

So it's more of a case of sort of sufferring through the 30s on the G, and then it's back to the 20mm in 9 and 10?

The Ta-183, the FW-252 and the Ho-229 use 30mm guns as LFs, but in general, the German LFs use something smaller.  The German HF line is where you get to use 30mm guns A LOT.

For the most part those German heavies all operate best when thought of as flying freight trains, being well suited to going fast and destroying anything in front of them while not being so good at turning. Think of the 30mm cannons as a big medium range cowcatcher.

The 209's 30mm MK 103 will be a whole new experience because it's a single shot gun, but you get 20mm guns and the overall performance of the 209 will help compensate for the shaky MK 103 accuracy - the latter of which a luxury Ta 152 do not have, but i digress.

 

T9 and T10 are both 20mm only so indeed it is.

While the F is quite a bit of a let down coming from the E, I'm not sure why it gets so much hate (or seems to).   Overall I enjoyed my brief trip through F land while specializing it.  Then again, I enjoyed the Ju 87 G and Hs 129 B.   None of these three will ever be my go to planes, though I'm keeping them in my hangar.   I would take it over the F4F or I-210 in a heartbeat, for sure.

 

So far the G has been enjoyable, but I'm still wrapping my head around getting that Mk 108 to land more than it doesn't.   High deflection shots are the bane of my existence.   Hopefully time and practice will help me improve (I am running MM1 and MM2 on my pilot).   I could see myself flying the G on occasion even after I move on to the 209, but I may change my mind as I get into the later tiers of the German 109 tech tree.

The MK 108 and machine guns actually give it a sense of unity in range, so when you get close enough to shoot you can expect all three to hit.
