When the Gobling first came out, I buyed it. I was still working on my first Tier VIII plane, and really had no idea how incredibly fast Tier IX could be. I got owned SO hard those first couple of weeks. I finally figured out that I had to put the plane down before I hurt myself and learn how to play at that faster pace. I specialized my Me-262 HGII before I flew the Gobling again. I had a much better time of it that time around.
The jump from T4 to T8 is MUCH larger than from T7-T9. Frankly, with this guy, I'm not sure he belongs in T4 yet. He needs to learn how the game works, first, then play at the top of Period I.
Oh yeah. I remember when my P80 dropped. Absolutely not ready for that kind of speed. It gathered dust for quite a while. Common complaint across all WG's titles is you can buy your way in to whatever you have no business playing yet. Unless the entire business model changes (I doubt it) so you have to have a certain number of games and a minimum proficiency in previous tiers before moving up, everybody just has to live with it.
In a way Planes has the worst problem because you need T8-10 to complete P3 token missions. The temptation would be strong to just go for it regardless and hope for the best. Ships missions usually start T4 up and don't bracket things out like planes (Usually, there are exceptions). I only do Tonks about once a year anymore so pay no attention to how they run things there.
