Er.... You can pick to not mount specialist, and specialist is for credits, which you can easily get for free if you play enough to get specialist.

Please don't tell me you spent gold on gokens for spec...

You know the final (specialist) engine is better than any of the other stock ones, right?

yeah. loosing out on the 50mm cannon seems to suck a big bag of [edited]. 
buuut that top gun is actually better from a raw damage perspective. 

and remember: there is nothing stopping you from from switching your plane back and forth from stock with the 50mm and specialized with the 30's 
you can (and should) use a separate build for each version.  its like having two different planes in the same hanger slot.

I bring your attention to the Stuka.  All of my air to air kills ( 3 tail markings worth) were acquired with the 20mm cannons.
I have been unable to reliably hit moving targets with those 37 mm antitank guns for years.  At least ground targets dont move (6 tail markings worth of ground kills)
And it mostly collects dust for that reason. (also the line as a whole is mostly trash until tier 7)
But I still keep it around because maybe someday WeeGee will get around to specialization part 2 and i can make a dive bomber out of it.

As I recall the Mk 103 30mms felt like a significant upgrade to me.

Looking at the stats, the 50mm does have more raw dps but I think its the ability for 4* 30mm to hit multiple target sections simultaneously that makes them better.

Eg when taking out one of those Medium targets with a heap of tents: 1*50mm can only kill one per shot, the 4*30mm can hit several at once and should kill each tent with one or 2 hits so you get that target kill quicker than the 50mm.

In my humble opinion, the ME 1099-B2 is just a steppingstone to the Me P.1102 B. Once I got the 1102 B, I ended up selling my 1099-B2 because it was essentially a waste of time and hangar space. I kept my IL-40, because that thing has a use. The 1099-B2 is basically redundant because why would I waste my time in that thing at Tier 9 (and risk being low tiered)? I can just play my 1102 B and not have to worry about being low tier. +The Gunz on the 1102 B rock and once specialized (does not take long) with fast reload, it is a hard to kill destroyer. I tried to like the 1099, but there is not much to like.

 

The Tier 9 IL-40 at least has rockets.

If you have flown this aircraft you realize its all about the cannon......

revert to stock is the only option, where my ultimate and max calibrated equipment takes a huge hit

.....my cannons in IL-20 and 1099-B2 allow me to take 30 targets in a battle........nothing to sneeze at

while the spray guns I find better for base defense than ground target destruction

.show me a spray gun taking 30 targets and I will rethink my whole approach

Get used to the spray gun. because it is what you get to use in tier 10. 

And yes they do the lions share of the damage. even with 4 bombs at the ready.  the bombs are perfect for taking out small targets like an AA gun with ease.
Line up the target, drop, and move on to the next. In half or even a quarter the time it takes to gun the same target down. 
So i will set up an approach that lets me strafe one target (like a tent city in a military plant) and toss a bomb at something else with hard target sections in the same run. (Like two AAA sites). 
And because high tier bombers are messy eaters Those cannons can quickly steal /secure a kill from someone that didnt quite get the job done in their first pass.

If for some reason its not working out for you, try loading the gold. HEAP ammo literally doubles the damage you do against ground targets. So even armored target sections melt quick. And is one of the the few few aspects of this game that is Pay2Win.

I've been thinking of buying back the Ju-88P to get some 50mm gun action.

I didn't particularly enjoy it going through on the way up the line though so I'm kinda hesitant.

 

I'd buy the Il-20 for the twin 57mm & good tailgunner but its just too ugly.

And that is where I draw the line with you hoom. We've been 07 buddies for a long time, but you give that lovely, lovely plane any grief, well... 

 

Let's just say it will be tough giving you a salute should you disparage such a great plane.
