I was really looking forward to this game but after playing only a few games i find myself ready to delete the game because of this hinky "carrot on a bungee cord" control system. VERY disappointed, especailly after waiting months for CB acess.

The mouse and keyboard controls just have to be like any other third person shooter. Should be tight and follow mouse movement instead of following where the mouse is dragged to. There could easily be a slight delay for some movements but planes shouldn't handle like you've been drinking for half a day before getting in the cockpit.

I waited for months to become part of the closed beta and I am extremely disappointed.  The way they have the mouse controls set up is probably the most asinine way it could possibly have been designed.  I'm not gonna waste my time playing 100+ battles or whatever like people have suggested just to LEARN HOW TO CONTROL AN AIRPLANE WITH A MOUSE.  This is something that was perfected at least 20 years ago with the old DOS Red Baron game. At the very least, give people the option of not having to use the carrot on the stick version of the mouse controls. Get with the program, WoWP people.  I'll be back to play this game after you fix this MAJOR issue.

The mouse controls are a little choppy

i've actually found mouse is FAR easier to work with than the Logitech controller i got specifically FOR this game. and i've played flight sims since the beginning (most notably, Aces Over Europe and Aces Over the Pacific and Red Baron). i think the main question is input->response times. even with my typical ~50ms ping, there's just enough lag that the controller seems to over-respond, though granted: i'm still playing with the sensitivity sliders. but it doesn't seem to be a question of sensitivity as much as having to guess how quickly it WILL respond. and for defeating that, the mouse control "carrot on a stick" is possibly the most optimal solution i've ever come across.

I don't like to fly with a joystick, but the mouse is just awful. I took a month break in the hopes of them implementing a proper mouse setup, to no avail... Probably won't play until they implement it, because it's far to frustrating trying to fly otherwise.

It would be much easier to fly the planes If the simplified the controls yes but I dont know if anyone else from flight sims have noticed but I cant find the throttle...

Have to join those who are disappointed with the controls with mouse. Joined the CB few days ago and I honestly cannot stomach anymore battles, with the mouse controls being as they are. The game seems great, as was expected, but who ever designed the mouse/keyboard control system need to take a hard look at the system. Cant believe that it would be the same designer, who designed the Tanks control system.

I just feel that the game will be missing a huge number of potential customers due to the strange and rather bad clunky control system. Majority of the people I would assume, would use mouse/keyboard combination, as this game is not exactly a hardcore flight sim.

hate the carrot and stick idea. Flying in BF3 is easier... dont mess with what aint broken, use the tried and tested method.

As a new beta tester who just tried the training exercises, +1 for to ditch this carrot on a rubberband crap. I absolutely hate it

There was a game or flight simulator - not sure - the name was MIG 29 Fulcrum vs F16 or something...perfect keyboard control and targeting...maybe you can use some...

This game has probably THE worst aircraft controls I've ever seen. Ever. Got into CB today, truly disgusted and bored by the end of tutorials. It absolutely blows my mind that intelligent people sat down together and THIS is what they came up with... with decades of flight sims to rip controls off of, why elect to invent something far inferior to anything that's ever been done?

edit: Playing through the tutorials and several matches, I have to ask myself why it was deemed wise to lock out throttle and flap controls for the tutorial dogfights. By turning off something as simple as "slow down" it really over-complicates the player's first attempts at combat.

I agree, I tried the mouse and it was hell, never use it again, thank god I have two logitech gamepads (cord and cordless) and those are ok however is not the optimal way to play still shaky really hard to lock target on scope. but way better than a mouse.... you tell me :Smile_sceptic::Smile_sceptic::Smile_izmena:

This game is unflyable with the mouse in it's current state.
Im a good pilot on BF3, and Im using the exact same configuration as BF3 for controls in WoWP but those planes are uncontrollable.
The weirdest thing is that green vector+dot. You dont control your plane, you make it follow a carrot on a stick which gives a terrible sensation of laggyness and unprecision.
I don't know who had this terrible idea but you need to get rid of that garbage, or at least give us the possibility of controlling our plane like in BF3 with the mouse.
We want our mouse to "be" the plane and respond to it's movement immediatly, not this horrible thing you invented.

im not flying again untill this is fixed.

Agreed. BF has the better controlsystem

I'm echoing somewhat. Got into CB yesterday, played through the tutorial last night/this morning, then one match. I got used to the controls after a bit, but even when becoming somewhat accustomed, it's not the most comfortable thing, nor the most intuitive. I want to fly the plane, not tell it where to go.

Now, I won't stop playing just because I don't like the control concept - what good will that do you? There's more feedback to be given. But I do think your team should be looking at alternatives. Even this late in the dev cycle. That's what CB is for, after all.

Personally, I was hoping for a simpler system to somewhat reflect a dual-stick setup on most modern gamepads, where the mouse is the right stick, which controls camera angle, and qweasd becomes the left stick (w/s = pitch; a/d = yaw; q/e = roll). There might be a slightly steeper learning curve, but it allows for more complex interactions than simply pointing the reticle where you want the plane to go, so ace pilots can truly stand out, but even rookies can feel like they've achieved something when they complete a barrel roll for the first time. And I haven't found a throttle control yet...not happy with that. I've only played perhaps an hour total, but it was never mentioned in the tutorials. I REALLY want a throttle control. Perhaps mapped to LShift and CapsLock to put that pinky finger to work.

I am using a mouse and keyboard... I've noticed that it is MUCH easier to fly a heavy fighter vs a fighter using the mouse... That's due to the fact that im not performing so many manuevers...

Try playing with >240ms ping :(
I'm still getting my head around the controls and am confident it will get better, so I'll hold off on voicing my official approval or disappointment in the control mechanisms.

BF1942/BF2/BFBC2/BF2142/BF3 controls =

Mouse controls the X axis and the "roll"
A and D the pedals

This "follow the carrot on a stick" is really bad.. specially if you uses the inverse option.

I've been playing BF series since the BF1942 and I can tell that there isn't another airplane game that have precise controls like that.. just copy and paste the BF series aircraft controls and WoWarplanes will be a success.
