Burned some free xp from the Christmas boxes to jump from the tier 5 Me 109 to the tier 8 Me 209 so I could do the rest of the Glory In Combat missions.  

 

Hey I was bored!  Already did the lower tier missions with the ME 109 B and ME 109 Emil so as I was headed up the line anyways so I did something I don't normally do.  I usually save free XP for unlocking top guns and such but it's whatever.  

 

So first few games this thing is hard to hit anything with the MK 103.   I searched around for a guide but I mostly read frustrating tales.  So I went out again in the skies Zooming and Miss Booming for some mis sorted sorties...

 

Finally figured out my hot spot internet at 80 ping has some weird delay and planes I was shooting at were taking damage as they flew behind me on occasion.  Thanks Auto Aim!

 

Hold down the trigger for a 3 count and let off for a 1 count is the best I can figure out.  4 count and they are red hot!  I feel like I'm taking bolt action rifle shots sometimes when I shoot at extreme ranges.  Granted I don't have much experience with a cannon setup like this but I have some hours in the Me 262 and XP-58 so I know big cannons take patience and careful aim.

 

The problem I have is I get shot in the derriere often while I'm scoped in!  Lack of situational awareness and pilot skills.  Plus this i forget how good this thing turns and when I remember I try to out turn stuff I can't and end up in circles of death.

 

So enjoy seeing me out there this week and shoot me in the buttocks if you can!

Laughing here.  I fully know your pain.  I have to fly her several times before I can get ahold of the cannons.  After a few battles, I can hit pretty decent with them, and I remind myself AGAIN how to fly more strategically. I have to look at the sector I am approaching, F4 the heck out of someone, then stay high-ish killing heavies and belly shooting bombers (easier to hit).  I am certain this is not the best way to fly her, but that is my skill level with this plane.

Yes Bomber bellies look like turkey drumsticks to this starving pilot!  Turkeys with miniguns that shoot back anyways!  Sometimes I get so desperate I stay on them until they lose 1/4 of their hitpoints and I'm at 1 hp and then I dive away...

 

That'll learn 'em!

On a plane that starts with 20s and "upgrades" to 30s I will usually fly with the 20s until I get Marksman 2, and only then think of using 30s.  A DPM of zero makes for a poor grinding experience.

This is why you don't skip planes.

109F gives you practice at holding/bursting fire.

109G gives you practice with the Mk108.

Personally I ran 209B with the Mk108 because I can't hit squat with the 103.

Life is short.  I didn't really skip as I love the 109's and will go back to them but I do find the Me 209 to be a beautiful plane and a nice mid-life crisis Corvette like those old guys putt around in.  

 

I know I shouldn't have skipped ok but 3 boxes!

 

Gold and treasure...I did it for the booty!

I'm way too hard headed for that!  I ran the Zwill with 30's back in the day too.

As long as you're able to get up close & land shots it still takes big chunks out of enemy hitpoints.

Of course you are right but No!  Not taking this new toy away from me!  Madly in love with this plane and I have a straight up new addiction with the big gun.  

 

Fly high.  Circle the action.  Catch a bot with it's pants down.  Zoom in.  Snipe them till they lose a wing or engine or both.  Dive in for the kill.  Feather the heaters.  Chop up bot. Giggle inside my head.  Runaway. Rinse. Repeat.  Profit.

 

When the insanity dies down and I start thinking clearly again I might take your advice because you're probably correcto amundo...but nah my brain is recoil rattled and my ears live for the song of the Mk 103 now...

 

I know I'm not right but I'm not wrong either...

Skipping the 109F did hurt you in playing the 209.

 

Go back and play the 109F and you'll immediately love the 209.

I dunno about all that.  I specialized both the F and the G and I am certainly not in love with the 209.  I hate German 30mm, and would much rather specialize a 20mm version.

The 209 actually have much better overall mobility characteristics than other single-shot planes making it one of the easiest in that category to work with. It takes some getting used to, but you won't have much problem keeping up and staying on target in the 209...which is a problem on many other planes carrying similar armaments.

 

...you did get the 20mm cannons, right? Both ranks of marksman may help you also.

Funny you say that!  Jumped in the Emil after 15 games in the 209 and got a McCampell's I needed for the Vampire missions.  

 

Def gonna collect them all for sure...I'm finally growing up and learning  Zoom and Boom at age 41.

This is the perfect example why you would use 2 fire groups.  Fire the 103s when you know you will hit and lay into them with the 20s while the 103s cool down.

I thought about it and my mouse has the buttons i just think it would be crazy feeling when I wanna fire both guns.  A progressive mouse button would feel good with a two stage trigger.  One stage for the rat and all the way down for the mice and the rat gun.

 

Feathering the trigger works good when they are close enough for the twenties to hit and I'm still lobbing grapefruits too.

I've got all the top modules equipped from first flight.  20's and the 30.  No going back now.

 

And you're right this aircraft has the speed and altitude capability to get me out of tail gun trajectories when I mess up on angles.

I couldn't get it to land but got easy hits with the Mk108.

Well I somehow got away with running the big cannon and got my 100000 damage done.  She is sitting in the hanger now resting.  Don't touch the exhausts they are still hot and ticking.  

 

I gotta get the pee jugs outta her and replace the gun barrels they are almost see through.  217 aircraft destroyed in 27 games.  She has a murderous way about her...
