never figured out how to fly this...       unboosted, it's as slow as a Maus        hit boost, it's a rocket ship        there's nothing in between

which would make it an excellent Ram the Rabbit plane!       didn't someone try it just this last SNL?       how did you do?

Is it possible to upgrade from the four 20s?  Can't find that info anywhere.

What makes it hard to fly?

Thanks

I did take it out on the last SNL, I was one of the rammers when i flew it though.  I might have to try it as a rabbit.

I love taking this plane out, you basically treat it like a Boom-n-Zoom.  You have 6 seconds of boost but you recover those 6 seconds back REALLY fast so you can basically just keep boosting.  You only have two 20mm cannons and they do heat up fast so it does require trigger discipline.  Like the Ho-229 this plane takes time to get to know it.  What helped me out a LOT was watching Postal Monkeys video on this plane.

The one thing that i have learned in this game is :

It takes time to learn how to fly a plane.

Some planes are not a jump in and run a match plane.

The 302 is one of those planes you have to dedicate time and multiple matches in a row.

Much like the J8M and its hit and run tactics.

Thanks for the information, Thorondar.  You helped me make up my mind.

4x20mm isn't enough punch for what I had in mind for it and I like knife fights.  Stooging around at bomber heights isn't my thing unless I'm up there specifically to kill them.

Fast is good, though so maybe somewhere down the time line....

4x20 mm SHVAK (1941) (С)

it's T7     it's not that bad      i love 20s

it's the abysmally slow unboosted cruise speed, then that Star Wars hyperspace kicks in      and then your 'engine' overheats just a couple of seconds later

that's what i can't master

Like I said above Trikke, you only have 6 seconds of boost but you recover it back fast.  When I used it in last Saturdays SNL..someone commented over the comms how I crossed the map so fast and realized I was in the 302.  I use the boost mostly for straight blazing speed dashes.  Once I close with my target I hit flaps/speedbrake if need be and put some 20mm rounds in it and if I have to.... hit the boost and extend out of range of their guns and turn around and do it again.  You were practicing barrels rolls in SNL..if you have the 302 you could always practice with the 302 (if you have it) on the unboosted vs boosted speed in the training room.  Equipment wise I have: Uprated Engine, Polished Skin and Lightweight Wing on mine.  I went for a speed build.

With this plane, feathering the boost is the key.  With how fast boost recovers, you can modulate the boost pretty easily.  What is hard is to remember to continue modulating it while you are fighting.  I always forget, then forget I'm out of "go", then I'm in a low-energy state, close to the ground.

Which, if there are any real pilots in the air, is fatal.

That is why this plane is so hard to fly - you have to train your hand to feather that boost pretty much all the time, to keep your speed up, without burning all your boost pool down.

nope, didn't figure it out     4 sorties 10 deaths      everyone bring theirs to SNL and we'll practice hyperspace control together

3 battles last night. Its specialized. 3 losses. Down tier in all three. #1 rank and did a lot of damage but took too long to hunt tier 8. Don't even think about turn fighting. I did get a human in the JL-1A. That felt good.
