Hello everyone.

 

I have a question; when extending flaps I can visually see them go down, but the airspeed of my plane does not decrease at all.  So if you're approaching an opponent at high speed, then drop your flaps to slow down and keep your guns on the target, instead you overshoot the target.  This is very frustrating.  There also seems to be no indicator light to let you know when the flaps are extended or not.

 

I have also noticed the same thing with the airbrake.  Tapping the, "S", key has no affect on airspeed.   Am I doing something wrong or what's up with this?

Are you mistaking your flaps for air brakes?  Flaps are for turning.  Air brakes are different.  If your flaps are extended it will say so near the bottom of the screen.  Also, some planes don't have flaps.

Do you have it set to "hold" or to "toggle"?

airbrakes work for turning as well.

I would enjoy the peace and quiet if my wife's flaps would stop working.

I try to play but she keeps wanting to talk about irrelevant crap.

oops i am sorry you were talking about on your plane.

 

Which direction are you heading and wanting to slow down?

If you are in a dive then NO it won't look like your flaps are working.

They are only holding you steady.

Flaps provide lift and in game make it possible to have tighter turns.

If you want to slow down then you cut throttle and air brake.

 

Yes the flaps will slow you down a little with level or nose up flight but wont really help in a dive

If you want to REALLY slow down, brakes, flaps, and turn.  I have mine set to hold, so I actually have to hold the keys down to get them to do work.BTW, Brakes and flaps do work together in a dive to hold your speed steady in the dive.

Flaps and full elevator help recover from a dive.  Unless you accidentally press the boost key instead of the elevator key.  Then, as they say in the reports, you get a "controlled flight into terrain."

Yes, go into your settings, in the Control tab go to Advanced Settings and turn off Automatic Flaps. Then assign your flaps down to either the E or Q key and your Pitch Up to the other key. This way when you turn you can press Q, S, and E all at the same time to extend the flaps, slow down, and pitch up to maximize the turn rate of the plane. If you are in a turn and burn fighter you should also have Pneumatic Control Assist to increase your turn speed. All this will make you turn faster. AFAIK only the super low tier planes don't have flaps.

 

It just takes practice to coordinate the pressing of several keys at once but you should get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Or get a cat. Cats are good at pressing all keys at once.

When I am not giving proper attention she will even press altf4

Ah, but there's a limit to number of simultaneous keypresses that will register - even for almighty cats!  The junk Dell keyboard I started with was only 3, and my Happy Hacking keyboard is 4 I think?  (I switched after discovering this limit in another game that often required holding down 3 keys for long periods while hitting various other keys)  That's been on my mind since I'm currently shopping for new 84-key Akko keyboard to get a function key row.
