A first for me.  I attacked a bot Do17 from front-below with my 109B and then flew underneath it and got destroyed by a bomb.  We were way high.  Talk about split-second timing to drop that bomb lol.

 

But seriously, is this common?   I understand getting blown up by an explosion on the ground but this is stretching it.

It's not common, but it's a cool touch. It happened in WWII and was caught on video a couple times.

I've been hit by falling bombs at least once while climbing straight up at the bomber in question, maybe twice.

 

My most dramatic one actually went off beside me.  I was in a heavy over a Plant, and two bot bombers were on the same reciprocal course, with the red bot at a bit higher altitude.  Falling bomb hit the friendly botbomber I had just flown past and over.  Made one heck of a boom!

we've seen pre-planned aerial bombs kills weekly, during SNL's Ram the Rabbit and Ram Your Neighbor 

 

well, maybe not weekly...    and not always pre-planned, either

 

but it's always the high point of the evening whenever it's happened         we should remember to turn on the recorder each week

I flew under an XP-44 when it decided to drop its bomb...the bomb touched my Hurricane...it got tore to pieces.

 

That was much lulz. It's so rare you wouldn't be seeing it happen for years at a time. Also, attack planes get superior explosion resistance so they can shrug off ordnance hits and even direct bomb blast.

That is true.

I think I have had only 3 direct hits in my flight career.

I used my Hs123 as a dive bomber on a bot TsH-2.  It was funny.
