To be fair, the 215.02 isn't completely irredeemable but its not an easy plane to fly. You're a one-plane meme machine. Guns are good - they're the same as the 1101 but with better burst length so your DPM is a lot better. Its got a buttload of HP so its fairly tough and its also surprisingly fast once fully equipped with Ultimate equipment thanks to its 20s boost length, allowing you to power across the battlefield in the same manner as a heavy fighter. And you have your rockets. The R4Ms can be used fairly effectively against both air and ground targets and your WGr21s are decently powerful as well. Taken together, you are a fairly good multirole being able to rapidly blow up light and medium targets and pick off slower moving, less nimble airplanes for a solo cap.

The problem is its performance is just awful. Turn time is bad and you're a massive target. Acceleration is multirole anemic without equipment and your tailgun is basically useless. It takes a lot of patience and planning to use properly and anything you can do, someone else can do better. If nothing else, you're a bigger, lower performing Hunter which trades the massive firepower of the quad ADENs for the meme of a massive cloud of rockets. Rockets that have been nerfed against the 215.02's primary prey - GAAs. You also have basically no damage resistance and your lumbering performance makes you vulnerable to even ADAs let alone bots or other humans if you don't plan your moves right.

So overall - its a plane that's been indirectly nerfed multiple times (it was collateral damage in the Explosive Damage nerf vs GAAs and the turret range nerf) and then basically replaced by a superior version of itself (the Hunter) and in this it is similar to the Fw252 - its a lesser version of its British counterpart. You can still have fun in it, just prepare to suffer if you face off against any competent opposition.

A very special note: the R4Ms that the 215.02 has are actually upgraded over all other R4Ms the rest of the German tree use and have something like 200m more maximum range so if anyone is dumb enough to try and charge you down face first, you can nuke him from almost 2km away.

And if you're REALLY crazy and outfit a Rocket Sight with maximum range upgrades, you can extend your rocket's range to just shy of 2.5km which, if you want to go full meme, means that with seasonal camo and fully upgraded RadNav gear for maximum stealth you can lob rockets at people from beyond visual range. You'll never hit them, of course, but its THEORETICALLY possible.

I enjoy reading your aircraft reviews. My favorite kind of post.

What equipment and skills do you have on your specced 215.02?

Nice. I am tempted to spec it out with tokens. I might try and get the 50% token discount. But probably not.

So far, I-211 and F-84F.   I think I'll probably save for J7W1 as my last March of Nations purchase.

I added P-39Q-15 because I was in a jolly mood, and was pleased to see that I already had a metallic camo for it.

Not going to get the XF-90.

Did get the XF-90.

After finishing the UK 2.5mil mission I found I had enough energy left, ran a few flights in F2H -> finished Specialising & then the XF-90 research.

I bought three tier 6 premiums with some gold I've had lying around: Spit DB, IL-1, and XP-50.

loved the Spit DB, it paid for itself easily     loved the way you could climb up to folks who weren't expecting to see you that high

i watched Reito fly the IL-1 a lot in SNL, so i got it       it turned out to be another reminder that i'm no Reito

i wanted the XP-50 to work so badly that i bought it, sold it in disgust      bought it again 2 years later, this time with tons more heavy time

still hate it, but kept it in case it ever gets buffed       because it's so ridiculously fragile and undergunned       every heavy in T6 can swat it down like a fly

even the bots hate to fly it

For Japan I'll probably buy J7W2, might finish off Ki-162-III research.

Ugh, I had seen some vids suggesting the J7W2 is notably better than the W1.

Its not.

Its can't speed, can't altitude, can't turn.

All you have is firepower.

A LOT of firepower its true.

But without the speed the turn or the altitude its really hard to get that firepower to be of any use

So far I spent all my credits and some $ to buy I-211, P-39Q-15, F-84F, Bk-534, J7W1 and A6M2 - that's probably my final tally for March of Nations.  I could buy more premiums (my limit is $15), but I'll probably win them in loot crates anyway.

These past few days I spent many battles in my J7W1 getting it to specialist + Japan March of Nations + Token mission.

I really, really like the J7W1.  Yes, it is slow and takes forever to cross the map, but when it gets there, it cleans up.  It's also really good on defense when you are ahead and need to protect that base from incoming planes.  I find that it turns well.  The guns are tough to hit with, but when you do hit, the next volley tends to hit as well.  I get overconfident and overheat the guns too often still, but when I am disciplined with my trigger usage, it does well.

Looking forward to the J7W2.  I've only played it a couple times, but if I like the W1, I think I will do OK in it, I hope.

Oh yeah, the two bombs it carries come in handy from time to time.  Nothing overwhelming, but they can cap a sector in a pinch.

Oh yeah, back to what planes I bought..

During the German portion I bought the Ju 288C after grinding the Ju 288A.

That's pretty much it.  I have enough silver where discounts mean diddly squat at this point.

Yeh I guess if you liked the W1 you'll like the W2.

The thing is its nearly a plane that I'd really love.

I looove the La line which is a bit slow, a bit un-turney, bit low on altitude but with extra firepower.

But the J7s just don't have enough of either the speed or the turn to trade off for improvement to the other like the La line have.

Maybe once Specialised the extra slot will tip it into acceptable performance?

I've actually caved & bought the Mustang Ia just before the server reboot.

I bought the Ki-162-1 at the start of the week.  I hated it for the first bunch of battles but eventually figured out how to fly it well enough to be effective.  I got it spec'd and unlocked the Ki-163-III by the end of the week and bought it to finish out the Japan non-premium tech tree.

The J7-W1 is a tough plane to like.  The J7-W2 gets significantly better and the J7-W3 is awesome.  It's true they don't have speed but you can use that to your advantage.  Use the low stall speed to turn in a tighter circle than whatever is trying to shoot you and land a few hits with the big guns and repeat.  Actually with the J7-W3 you don't need to dogfight very often because you can blow up most light fighters in a single, quick pass.

My problem has been that I just don't care enough to make the 162-I work for me.  Yeah, the T10 bird is pretty good, but I just don't care.

The MRF line, tho - that one I am looking forward to grinding.

Tough decision.  I had a bit more than 20,000 gold left and it was either a T8 and a couple of lower tiers or two T8s.  Two T8s would have left me with very little gold but I got some more in the Halloween gift boxes so two T8s it was.   I wanted a "safe" aircraft and I wanted a fun one.  So I took the XP58 as the safe choice and the J8M as the fun choice because I like the Me 209 play style.  I bought them on the last day of the sale and I have fewer than 10 battles in each so far but it looks like I got what I was looking for.  I do like that both aircraft have only one type of gun.  That means one fewer mouse button to worry about.

I am finally equipped to complete daily missions and get some tokens.
