I-211 is my current project.  I've been waiting months to purchase it, and got the March of Nations price.

Boost speed: seems good (but perhaps because I don't fly at Tier IX much)

Altitude:  DISMAL!  (and decent boost tempts you to overclimb into a helpless stall)

The engine upgrades seem weak, so I don't feel like altitude will improve much.

Turning: saps energy at a sickening rate.

Guns:  good initial burst and don't overheat too fast, but once hot take forever to cool down.

Seems like slashing attacks across the cap and boosting GTFO may be the ideal situation?  But that is a passive playstyle that depends on target availability and minimizes how much those guns can be on target.

How to develop this plane?

Do I mount all the turning enhancements and train ADE so I can track the guns on the targets?

Do I go for uprated engine and Engine Guru skills for more altitude and power?

Is Marksman more important than either of those since the guns are the main show?

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a IL-40 lollipop?

I ran it I think part Cruise, part Turn. (though was before I understood the value of Boost)

Pilot with ADE & both Engine Gurus. (or ADE, EG1 & ABE?)

Spent a lot of time staying low, licking GAs, they don't take many licks :playing:

I enjoyed it a lot, considered keeping it but quickly found the I-215 sufficiently better that there was no point keeping I-211.

On I-215 I've re-specced to both Marksmans & lost Engine Gurus, (kept ADE & ABE) partly because the I-215 has notably better base performance.

I'm not entirely sold on it though, I still stand by the argument that you need the guns pointing in the right direction & within range before accuracy has any impact -> better turning & speed matter most.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

I should clarify that I VERY rarely fly a plane enough to get a pilot past 5 skill points, so my outfitting decisions have to be made based on where to put the first 5 skill points.  Also, a non-Specialized configuration - I don't forsee reaching Spec.  Turning and speed and accuracy are competing concerns, and I need to figure out which to prioritize in the fully outfitted non-Spec plane.

My impression is that this plane only fits the "horizontal boom and zoom" genre, since it has no altitude range, and straight line speed and burst damage are the strong points.  However, when I tried to boom a very low-health Me 209 It was a complete whiff on my part and that thing was on my tail in a flash to take me down.

Have you watched the Vee Bat video on it?

I've decided to go all-in on 1) aiming (Marksman 2 and gunsight) and 2) uprated engines.  In last night's battles sometimes I'd pull up directly behind an enemy and it would take 5-10 volleys to get the first hit, which is brutal with the gun overheating on this plane.  I also had plenty of situations where I had another plane in my sights and I hit the altitude ceiling hard, and the plane just stops dead cold when that happens.

Grrrr - I don't know how I'm going to get my pilot to his 5th skill point.  This plane is absolutely useless in battle.  It can't turn with fighters, doesn't have the altitude to intercept heavies, and is too fragile to attack bombers or GA.  Even the AA is deadly for it.  The guns rarely hit anything so their DPM is very low, and once they're overheated it's several seconds before they'll fire again.
