Lag will cause all kinds of wonky things to happen. The pinata effect and the now you see it, now you don't planes are quite common. I was flying a jet fighter once and made a hard turn only to have my plane sliding sideways toward a mountain. Fortunately the lag stopped in time so I din't crash but for about 5 seconds I was Tokyo drifting.
