As I start playing more games in post 2.0, its becoming clear that WG decided to give an overall nerf to horizontal energy.  The current physics model really reminds me of what they did to altitude energy in 1.5...which is a shame, as it removes the strength of an entire class of planes - specifically the American P-47 line and F6U/F7U (and others like FW 252 etc).   Admittedly, I haven't specialized any of these planes so perhaps there is a mitigating method in specialization, but I have to say the air just "feels thicker" than it was in 1.9 and below (with the exception of 1.5 obviously).

I hope WG does something to improve game-play for beloved planes that rely on their schnell-like attributes as their defense mechanism to turn-n-burn planes.  If changing physics is out of the question, perhaps giving those planes an extra engine equipment module could do the trick.  Variety in a game like this is good for keeping players interested.

Slap Boost Injection on to them. I cannot speak for the Thunderbolts but the 190s and Corsairs work just fine.

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

Multiroles in general could do with a base boost acceleration buff.

But you get a much better feeling from them with Boost Injection + Engine Cooling build.

Its currently un-piloted but here's my P-47N build:

With ADE + both Engine Gurus the acceleration with Boost bumps up from 9% to 17.6% & you really feel it.

Then the Engine Cooling gives you a big refill or an extra 10s burst every 90s so you get to spend much more time Boosting.

Polished skin (& Uprated Engine) help sustain your speed.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

Thanks for your recommendation - i'll try that.  Though I do agree with your own sediment that multi-roles who rely on horizontal BnZ need a little love in boost/speed when played correctly.

I think there is merit in the idea that adding Spec boost is the answer.  I will not fly a plane unless I buy the spec wings, not gunna doit.  Yes, that says something about my flying ability, and lack of it, but the old plane possibilities are dead and gone. I feel you HAVE to spec them out for them to fly as one would think they should fly.

If you REALLY wanna shake off the dust on a Thud  ... I  HIGHLY recommend Aerodynamic Pylons.
Reducing Outboard weapon drag by as much as 80% is a game changer.
With Polished skin+Uptuned Engine, you can mount all your ordnance and still keep up with a P-38(!) in level flight AND a dive.
It makes for an interesting split tier flight combo.  (thud high lightning low)

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is on par with my WinRate. Hit or Miss.

Very good point: I played most of the line no ordnance at least until Specialised for that reason.

When you're constantly hunting for every little bit of speed and non-Specialist you can't mount Aerodynamic Pylons that ordnance is a big drain on your performance.

Compare with my un-piloted P-47N:

No ordnance 522km/h cruise, 789 boost.

Full ordnance with Ultimate Aerodynamic Pylons 516 cruise, 780 boost, relatively small performance hit (& even less performance hit with ADE)

Full ordnance no Aerodynamic Pylons 493km/h cruise, 746 boost, a big speed loss.

 Thanks for your recommendation

Learnt from SpiritFoxMy when I was trying to figure out Fw-190s :)

Even if you don't get the Engine Gurus at least make sure your Pilot has AeroDynamics Expert skill.

same for me, both of those

so many other great tips and hints were shared with me while flighting with SFMY, and i forgot half of them by the time we got back to the hangar
