Even between joystickers it's going to be different, since we all have different setups.  I'm sure I'd be a lot more frustrated with aiming in some planes if I didn't have the ability to fine-tune my aim using the rudder control on my throttle's analog thumbstick.  The joystick itself is a fairly coarse input that jerks the nose around a bit too much for aiming guns, and it's really the rudder thumbstick aiming shots in my case.

Best tiers are 7 and 8

My list of my favorite planes I mostly fly below by Tier, I use  Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick with my most important/used inputs programmed in it buttons.

 

T1:  Type 91

T2:  XP-31, FW-56

T3:  PV3, P.38

T4:  I-153 DM-4, I-17, Bf 110 C-6, AR 197, He 111 H-2

T5:  XFL-1, A6M2, Beaufighter

T6:  XP-55, Ki-102

T-7  A7M, Tu-1, B-32

T8:  Vampire, Ho-229, P-82B, Do 335

T9:  GOBLIN!!!  GOBLIN!!! GOBLIN!!! and F-94D (did I mention GOBLIN!!!)

T10:  Yak-30, Me 262 HG III, XF-90, Su-10, EF 131

 

I dont have a favorite tier but overall my all time favorite plane is:  you guessed it...GOBLIN!!!  GOBLIN!!! GOBLIN!!!

 The SE 100 is not "that good"  It lacks speed and altitude compared to other heavies in tier.

 But it has decent agility + easy to use firepower with quad 20mm in the nose, one in the tail.

What you can't out-turn or out-pace will die to that tail-gunner or break off when they notice how quickly their health bar is vanishing.

 

I am probably underselling P-38F, I did recently Specialise it & had a much better time with it than on my original pass through but I still think of it as a plane you have to make significant effort to do really well, while the likes of SE 100 you can just throw it into a cap & reasonably expect to come out on top.

well, the P-38F is the plane that I have the most hours in-game, so I have a bit of a bias.      Not really disagreeing with your points regarding the SE 100, either.

First it was available where you did missions to get the plane (like the Ascender and Vampire), after that its been for sale once or twice since.  It will come up for sale every once in a while, just got to keep an eye out for it.

I can't comment about things tier 7 and up since I don't play those tiers enough to have an opinion. As well, I don't think that there is a best plane per tier simply because many planes do a specific job and some other plane at the tier is better for a different job. Best plane per type, per tier might be a better listing to me. 

 

Tier 2: XP-31, I-5 ShKAS, AR 67 - (special mention) Ao-192

 

All of these planes are good. The Ao 192 is kind of a clubber plane being the only tier 2 heavy fighter. Many people spec this plane and club with it. I haven't yet but will one day.

 

Tier 3: B-534, Blenheim iv (e.), Ki 33, P.38 Wilk, I-15 bis DM, (special mention) Fw 57

 

The fighters are great. The bomber is obviously the best one at this tier. The P.38 Wilk is a great heavy fighter, the best at this tier in my view. The Fw 57 is used for turret missions in the tier 1-4 bracket by some players. Like the Ao192, it's also used by some for seal clubbing since there arn't a lot of heavy fighters at tier 3. But many have switched to the P.38 Wilk for that now probably.

 

Tier 4: Bf 110-C, i-17, i-153 DM-4, He 111 H-2, Bf 109 B, A6M1

 

All of these are good as other people have talked about. No one so far mentioned the bomber I don't think, not sure why. As well, no one mentioned the i-17. I think the i-17 is good, but i'm no expert. 

 

Tier 5: There are too many to list. Like half the planes at tier 5 are good.

 

Tier 6: Spitfire v, Spit V DB 605, XP-55, P-38J, Me 410, A6M5, (don't have the Ki 102 yet)

 

This tier seems to be an anything goes tier for me. Like others say, it's a balanced tier. Every type of flying style has a place here from turn and burn to boom and zoom and everything in between. I can see why so many players play tier 2-6. They are the best tiers in the game.

7 - Many great suggestions.  Let say my favorite tier 7 lately is my BF-109 z...twin boom heavy with 4 30s.  Add gas operated gun part and it rips apart anything In it’s way.

it's a fun training room for folks that use Discord      it starts at 9:30 pm EDT, and everyone is welcome      look for Flight #2 in wowp's NA channel

To chime in regarding the He 111, it's slower than the Dornier tech tree bomber, but has 4 huge sticks of bombs vs the Do 17s 5 of half the size, and better altitude.  One-pass Mining Plant caps for days.  During the bomber Events, it was also capable of taking half the Stronghold in one pass, which very little else could do at Period I.

Tier 7 has the glorious I-220 and Ki-84 

 

Wish I could join but my girlfiend is almost always at home streaming TV during that time.  :/   Oh, and these days also "game night" with her friends via teleconference.

 

Reminds me that I haven't installed Discord in my new computer yet...

I used to not like T7 at all.

Now I've got 11 specialised planes across a wide diversity of playstyles & several of them are among my favourites in the game:

Speedy altitude planes P-51D & K, I-220 & Bf 109G

Speedy chunky P-47N, F4U-4, Fw 190D & Typhoon

Hornet, Tu-1 & Ki-84 in their own categories

And another 4 I'm in progress on Specialising B-32, La-7, Yak-9U & Ki-94-I, not sure if any are real 'keepers' yet.

 

But T6 is definitely better.

Are these suggestions current? This information is very helpful to people trying to grind out a line, hopefully it will be updated soon.
