Hi everyone!!!  

 

It's your resident Biplane Girl again (YAY BIPLANES). 

 

A few weeks ago there was a good deal of discussions about clans, clan rivalries and the fact that there was no effective way for Clans to compete in any meaningful way and some open questions as to what could be done about that.  

 

I sort of began casting about for a way that Clans might actually be able to rate themselves against each other in some uniform way so I went to the Clan Boards and started poking around.  The problem with the existing Clan Board is that a lot of the clans listed there are either dead or have a few active members but a HUGE number of highly rated pilots that have left the game.  These clans, even though they are largely or totally inactive, may still have a high "clan rating" in the system which makes the way that data is displayed not particularly helpful or even very valid.  

 

So I decided to do something simple but something that could solve at least part of the issue and give some meaningful data to the community and clans.  I decided to use the information on the Clan Boards but include only "active" clans".  I decided that a clan that averaged at least one battle per day per member was likely to be "active".  This would eliminate the clans which were essentially dead as well as those with a small number of active pilots and hordes of inactive ones which are having their effective clan rating inflated by continuing to hold highly rated inactive pilots on their clan rolls.  

 

Anyway, after having done this for a few weeks and gain some mostly positive (and a bit of negative) responses, it was suggested I put this into it's own thread so ... here it is, the most current weeks ratings for the 31 active clans in WOWPS.

 

This information is based on the data contained in the Clan Ratings Board.  Clans with a Average Battles per Day per Member rating of under 1 battle are considered "inactive" clans and are not included in these rankings.  These rankings are based on the Clan Rating as calculated by WG.

 

For quick reference, the following information is provided. 

 

Clan Ranking - If a Clan has moved up the board to a new higher ranking a +1 will show immediately after the rank and a -1 if the clan has fallen back in the rankings. 

 

Clan Rating - Calculated by WG.  If the clan's rating has increased or decreased the amount of this increase or decrease will be shown directly after the rating.  Changes in rating are also color coded with normal black text indicating no change in the rating, blue text indicating and increase in the rating and green text indicating a decrease in the rating.

(+63) - GW_S - Gray Wolf Squadron  - The Grey Wolves have been just hanging around until this week.  Wow, great job everyone. 

(+58) - OWSS - Order of the White Silk Scarf - For the last several weeks, the clans at the top of leaderboard have been losing ground or stagnant.  That all ended this week.  What an effort, great job OWWS!!!

(+57) - A-S-S - Aerial Supremacy Squadron - 4th straight week for going out and kicking .... well ... you know ... ***

(+55) - X3M - X3M Fighters - Another of the top clans getting their wings on and making things happen.  WOOT!!!

(+32) - REX - Rebeldes Exiliados "La vieja Guardia" - Second week in a row on the list.  Nice job REX!!! 

 

Nice job everyone!!!  Just remember that age old truth.  True joy comes from flying BIPLANES!!!  YAY BIPLANES!!!

Well, there aren't any ... or I guess any things out there for clans to do other than just be clans.  Some clans will think the data is cool and use it, others won't and most won't even know it exists.  Still, I like numbers and it's not hard to do soo ... who knows, maybe it will be a little seed that will make clans seem more relevant to some.

Well ...

 

Here's the thing.  The rating, as calculated by WG probably isn't perfect and it may not respond to everything which maybe would be useful in the 2.0 environment.  

 

That being said, many of the inputs which create the rating are still being used and those inputs continue to have weight in the rating system and continue to make that rating system respond to clan activities.  It's also the only rating system out there which is pretty much going to be considered unbiased, at least in terms of people being accused of tilting the ratings so that their clan looks better at the expense of others. 

 

In the absence of anything better, it's what we have to work with and seems to provide at least some degree of performance measure.  

 

You can, or course, ignore it for any number of reasons just like you can choose to ignore the Clan Board where these figures are derived from.

As I explained in the first post, I am attempting to choose "active" clans wherein the bulk of the information available is relatively current and is not being unduly influenced by having a large number of departed or highly inactive members on the clan rolls which are greatly impacting the clan rating, which is one of the weaknesses of the current Clan Board. 

 

To do that, I decided to choose clans where the members of that clan are averaging one battle per day.  It seemed to be a logical starting point though I'm willing to be convinced otherwise if there's evidence out there that there are active clans without a lot of inactive members influencing their clan rating, that have a lower than one battle per day rating. 

 

3NIC has 26 members with an average battles per member per day of 0.19.  Of 3NIC's 26 members, three have actually flown at least once over the past 28 days which represents only 11.54% of the clan.  A total of 11 members have flown less than 10 battles since the introduction of ver 2.0 which is 42.31% of the entire clan.  A total of 6 members (23.07%) have averaged as much as 0.1 battles per day since ver 2.0.    What this tells me, for better or worse, is the vast majority of 3NIC's clan rating of 2,151 is largely based on players who are no longer with the game and likely, never to return. 

 

The system above does not attempt to rank clans with that level of activity since it seeks to look at clans whose ratings are going to be more significantly influenced by current performance. 

 

However, if you want to see how 3NIC stacks up historically with other clans, the Clan Board is probably a better measure since it rates all clans in existence, whether they have any recent activity or not.  On that board, out of about 5,000+ clans, 3NIC has a 2,151 clan rating and is ranked 1,122nd.  That puts them historically in the top 20% or so of all clans.

Your making my brain hurt. I understand how your getting your numbers but it is getting to be to much to read about. Keep up the good work though.
