I run it with the 2x20mm and hub 30mm.  In that configuration, I can reliably snipe from 1200m, and when I close to within 600m, let the 20s do their thing.

Ah, I might try that.

Recently started flying the 190D again and before I knew it, had the Ta-152 researched. I really like the 20mm's on the D, because of their range. So I might just stick to them on the A, almost 800 meters is good.

And it's a bit more maneuverable ?

More maneuverable than the Dora but not enough to make it a competitive dogfighter. I personally recommend against running the 2x20mm MG151/20s + 1x30mm MK103 not because it isn't a decent configuration but on the principle that it turns your Ta-152 into a considerably less maneuverable, only slightly faster Me209A. So why bother flying the Ta-152 in that case? Unless you're only flying it to grind out the Ta-183 in which case its really your choice.

And on that note, the Ta-183 is a decent but difficult plane to fly and the Fw252 is a raging dumpster fire of a plane.

No, wasn't thinking of dogfighting.

Was hoping for a bit more maneuverable Dora with much better altitude. But the guns ... well. The 13mm's and 20mm's on the Dora are awesome.

Ta-152 is very different from the Dora. It lacks the massive boost duration for one. Ta-152 only has 10s boost compared to the Dora's 20s. It has less close range firepower than the Dora (only 2 x 20mm and 1 x 30mm compared to 2 x 13mm, 2 x 20mm and 2 x 30mm) and less hitpoints tier for tier.

It is, essentially, a slightly faster, considerably less maneuverable Me209A. I had a massive culture shock transitioning from the Dora to the Ta-152.

I suppose since you cannot hope to dogfight anyway, you could build purely for speed with Polish/Turbine, but you can ALSO do that in the 209A and still wind up with over 1s better turn.

I have mentioned this when I tell people about this weapons config.  But it works better than the 3xMK103 setup, post-nerf.  It can be almost impossible to hit a plane inside 400m with the 3x30mm setup, even with MMI+MMII.  Finally, out of frustration, I changed to the 209A loadout and found some success.

The nerfed Ta-152 is a shadow of what the plane used to be, and probably rightly so to some extent.  But WG went too far.  In the meantime, grinding for the 183 or the Batplane can be less of a chore if you can actually close to within 400m and cut loose with those guns.

As a MK-108 junkie,  I find the Ta-183 a blast to play, but it does require significant discipline.

I'm using the middle 30 in the hub and the big 30s in the wings, blap blap blapping heavies and bombers....and occasionally GA.  Can't really hit smaller planes reliably enough to try, except in desperation.  It is very vulnerable to tailgunners, but if I have the enemy isolated I can usually survive and limp off to lick my wounds and line up the next victim.  At least, against bots.

I feel like they need to give those 30 mm guns a higher rate of fire in exchange for slightly less damage per shot. What if the guns fired at 120 rpm instead of 60? Do you think it would be usable then? And perhaps the overheat could be improved somewhat. I'd also like to see it get a 13 second boost. I think that would help. It seems like a capable enough plane to have a large boost. Look at that giant engine it has. It could be a really good plane. The problem is, it needs tweaking statistics wise. There is no equipment that can fix that gun, but I'll still fly it because I think it is cool. The real mk 109 fired about 320 rounds per minute. I agree it is way to low in this game to be at 60 rpm. That is worse than the Chain Lightning's 37mm guns for Pete's sake. I don't understand how a bigger gun could fire faster than a smaller one, but that is what they've done to some of the guns in this game when they don't like a certain plane, I think.

The only thing they need to fix is the heat cycle. They overnerfed it and they should have buffed cooldown even as they nerfed burst length. Previously the plane was a tad overpowered but the nerf was a bit too heavy handed (as usual) and they should have increased the weapon cooldown by about 20% to account for the 40% nerf to burst length. Give it cooldowns similar to the Horten and we're gold. Actually, it might be overpowered again so give it cooldowns similar to a Horten with Long Gun Barrels.

Still... that's a thought. I might have to try rebuying the thing and slapping GoA on it. Maybe with Ultimate GoA, I might be able to put it back in its YOU SHALL NOT PASS configuration. Which will be hilarious.

I'd love to see gun cool-downs vary by altitude.      maybe cooling down just a couple seconds faster at 3000 meters?

or is that too 'complex', like more maneuverability after dropping bombs?

They need to make it so that shots that hit actually connect rather than just disappearing.

So burst length was nerfed? and the cool down is a bit much? Sounds like a job for Reinforced Bolt Carriers.

This thread prompted me to dust off my Ta-152 and take it for a spin to see what they'd done to a plane I greatly enjoyed.  I think this plane is still an assassin.  Loved it then, loved it now.  I'll buy all your Ta-152 stock.

Happy hunting,

just bought a bat wing today. I had forgotten how inconsistent even ZeGerman 30's can be at times. (especially those mk 108's)
Slapped a ultimate Gun sight on that boy to fix that. Much better. Still tricky in certain situations tho.
I swear those Pancor Jackhammers shake the player point of view of that little batplane everytime they fire.
But i have been up for a little too long and maybe that is why

Not sure why it took so long, but I watched long Fw 190 and Ta 152 videos on the youtubes tonight.  Performance discussed obviously isn't like playing WoWp, but it really helps to have some context to appreciate a difficult bird.  Looking forward to soaring high deleting more bombers when I have the internet bandwidth all to myself again.

I didn't enjoy the Ta 152 but I disliked the I-211 more. The I-211 has the exact same guns but worse maneuverability and altitude performance at tier 9. After a few losses yesterday I sold the thing and free XP'd the final 20k to unlock the I-215. I haven't bought the I-215 yet but I hope the guns are more reliable than I-211's.

I wasn't in this thing pre-nerf, and I'm long past the grind on it, but I still enjoy it form time to time. I treat it for what it is though, a fun meme plane.  When it hits a light ADA and it pops like a balloon, I can't help but to laugh. The I-211 also treated me well when I played it as an ambush predator. You'd be surprised by how well it works climbing up from under an unsuspecting altitude fighter when they think they got an easy heavy kill at FL800. The  guns add another 3K ft to your altitude influence. If you treat the Ta-152 as a typical altitude fighter though I think it will troll you hard.  These guns will not hit at close range at all for some reason and the frustration is real, but Marksman II helped me out a bit.

I've been watching this guys other videos, he has a lot of interesting stuff about the relative strengths & limitations of various WWII planes and the technical reasons behind them.
