OK - I "upgraded" some of the guns to 30s, and I now have the top engine installed. (as pointless as that is)  So I can now I firmly declare that I've given Ta 152 the old college try, and it just isn't capable of contributing anything besides handing the enemy free points.  Go ahead, change my mind.

The guns can't even reliably hit bombers at close range (while getting absolutely shredded by their turrets in return), and I am indeed firing at only 1 shot per second so the guns aren't overheated.  If they can't hit a bomber then obviously they won't hit anything smaller.  The 20 in the nose is actually doing most of the damage since it's the only gun that hits regularly, but that's pretty weak for a Tier 8.  The plane flies like a brick...wait no, bricks fly much better.  I don't dare fly it into any location where there's more than one enemy plane within a cap diameter.  The most obvious prey should be heavies, but if they see me first they can either easily crit me or just zoom away.  So, I float around the edges of the map waiting for lone bombers.

The Fw 190 D was incredibly painful, but this plane ups it another notch to the level of feeling absolutely pointless.  And I still need 45000 XP to finish researching the hub gun, and another 130000 XP to research the Ta 183.  But hey I'm not a quitter so I'll continue to hit the battle button, get my 3-4 bombers, and do it again until the bots hand me a free participation trophy win.  Ech, and I still haven't even finished with the dreadful Fw 190 D either.

I can't comment on the Ta 152 yet, but the Fw 190 D has grown on me. I hated it until I made myself follow the rule "Never Fly Alone". I don't mean you need to flight up (I never do), I mean always be somewhere with blue bots around. Defend a key zone full of Air Defense Fighters. Follow a group of bots when they go to attack a sector. Hit the "Cover Me" command (F3 for me) and don't switch off it by issuing other commands.

I had a bad trend of getting into 1 vs. 2 fights with one enemy that could out turn me and one that could out speed me. I think that happened so much because I was flying the plane like a mid-altitude heavy fighter. It doesn't have enough speed for that. Instead, minimize the number of 1-on-1's you get into and try to turn them into head-on fights whenever possible. Never walk into a number's disadvantage. Don't try to be a reactive player in this plane, responding to crises or opportunities that show up on the minimap. Do that in as many other planes as you can (if you like that playstyle, I do) but not this one.

I hated the Ta-152. HATED it. I honestly can't think of a plane I hated more.

Then again, I loved the Bf 109 G and the Fw 190 D, so who knows. The Ta 152 sucks at close range. It's like the game won't let the 30mms engage until after 1000ft. Like they're torpedoes not cannons. Anyways, some people really seem to like this plane but I'd rather have any other sniper at this tier.

I really like the Ta 183 tho. But it's very different than the Ta 152. The 183 is a close range shotgun shooter with speed and altitude to spare. Both are best versus Heavies and less maneuverable MRFs. Both can have success versus GAs and Bombers. Neither should dogfight anything that can outmaneuver it, which a lot of enemies can outmaneuver them.

Weird that the Ki-93 can still derp someone at close range but the Ta 152 can't.

Right?! I love the Ki-93. And so many other snipers work more consistently than the Ta 152 for me. The Ho 229, the I-260, hell the Su-9 even. Dunno why the Ta 152 is the way it is.

Well all right, I see uniform disapproval.  To me that sounds like a challenge to stubbornly accept!  :honoring:  I may yet double-down on the 30s and commit to the hit-n-run crit-sniping lifestyle, even though I'm pretty sure it means yielding cap control to the enemy.  I can't imagine anyone wanting to win the cap game would chose this plane.

It used to be a fantastic sniper, but then the range and damage got nerfed.  I still take it out every once in a while, but between new lines and aircraft that cancel out it's last remaining advantages it's no where near as fun as it used to be.  It's still decent if you can keep your distance and use the range it still has, but it's not going to carry a battle.
Fly crooked and shoot straight.

The plane has been painful junk since I started playing roughly a year ago. The only people who had a love for them were Wehraboos (don't worry, they'll come in to defend their German planes and romanticize them and their past, always do.) and people who dealt with it because of the snipe factor and there not being much else more sniper-esque at the tier at the time. The plane in that line at T9 is fun though.. -almost- worth the pain of the TA-152.

Editing to add: I am having far too much fun in the TA 183. I'm dreading the FW 252 from the stories I've heard.

Oh come on I may not like the gun but the Mk 108 isn't THAT ba-

Oh. Oh... It uses the Mk 103 as the top gun. And that's the same 30mm that the Horten uses.

This suddenly makes a lot more sense.

The 209 uses the same MK 103 but the combination of speed and maneuverability actually makes it usable...the Ta 152, however, cannot do the same as 209 can with similar setup (MK 103 hub, 20mms synchronized) because it won't move its nose to keep up with targets, and the all-MK 103 setup is a whole new ballgame that's pretty much all-or-nothing.

If you can't make all-derp-gun arms work for you (TBF it's exclusive to high tier) then you might as well just skip it...it's not like it's this style all the way to the end.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

The pre-nerf Ta-152 could own the T8 skies.  I did it often enough that specialist was within a few playing days.  I would knock down bomber after bomber, crush HFs into paste, snipe Yak-15s from altitude - it was glorious.

Then the nerf.

They totally killed the guns' accuracy and damage at range, so now you have to close to within 800m to get action.  Yes, they made the plane more turny, but they Me-208 is a thing.

The Ta-183 is worth the grind, but now, instead of the Ta-152 being a go-to 1300m sniper at T8 (that is the Ho-229 now), it is really meh.  Even with a good gunsight and Marksman I + II, the 30s can't do what they used to before the nerf.  The complaint that the plane was painful junk before the nerf is just wrong - if you saw a human in a Ta-152, you had to account for that person the whole time.  Now, you can ignore them without much penalty.  I'm going to move mine back to 20s and the thirty, and fly it for a while to see if it can't do reasonable work.  Snipe snipe snipe, then close in and finish with the 20s.  It'll be like the Do-335 that way.

I'm a big believer in if something doesn't work for you, just take the L and move on. If you can't make the Ta-152 work, just get thru it and on to the ta-183.

3 30mm's seem crazy good but in reality they are hard to hit and you only have 2-3 shots before your target is in close range which nullifies your advantage.

It's not uncommon to be 100-200m behind the last flimsy ADA fighter to flip a cap but can't land a single shot...def not an all 'rounder type fighter.

Focus more on BnZ, speed & alt VS turn fights on the deck (which are almost unavoidable to win games). Go after heavies and only bombers with low health. <o

I find the handling pretty much ok but its super hard landing the mk 103s, I've never really had any luck with the long range German 30mms though.

I always enjoyed the Yak-7 and LaGG-3 (34) and Ju 88 P derps.  Wing-mounted derps are not so good, and Ta 152 doesn't fly well.

I "upgraded" the hub 20 to the lower level 30, and although the hit percentage and DPM goes down, the more similar gun layout does help with effectiveness.  ADA fighters can be taken out solo, but not with enemy fighters around.  Bombers and enemy heavies are more downable.  However it's still a plane that spends very little time in the fight. When a plane gets in range I start tapping the trigger.  Pop pop pop pop pop

Geee, man... I have been taking an extended break from the game (real life, other games, you know it), but before my break (6-9 months ago?), Ta-152 was one of my favourite birds. Yes, it needs specific play style, no, its not a mustang where you put a beer bottle on left mouse button at the start of the game and release it at the end, but its great for BnZ, solid for TnB (once you get to it, your enemy has usually cripled wings, gun, tail etc. anyway), and once you specialise it and add some menuverability - improving modules...

If you like being a sneaky bastard like I do, there is something rewarding in one-two shotting japanese planes that have you idea you are there, in cripling Spits in head-to-head and then killing them in a turn fight, in stealing other people's kills from a mile away (sorry)... Joy, joy, joy...

At the same time, I have played the plane maybe twice over past months and didn't bother to read patch notes...

Ta152 used to be one of my favourites as well, but it received a heavy nerf several months ago and has never been the same. They reduced the burst length from five to three for the guns and increased its overheat penalty. Its still formidable as hunter-killer but its days of mowing down entire teams solo are long gone

Also, the Horten exists now. The Horten has even shorter burst length but faster cooldowns and very mild overheat penalties. It also flies faster and has fantastic acceleration. If you loved the old Ta152, the Horten is the plane you want these days.

I get a huge amount of shots that disappear instead of hitting.

Clearly on target but the tracer just stops short instead of connecting & doing damage.

I'm assuming its a latency bug or something -> I just never will be able to use these properly.

Oddly that sort of thing is much much less common with the Soviet & Japanese derps though, if I could land the Ta-152 guns as easily as I do with the other derps I think I would really enjoy this plane.

I did get around to re-speccing my pilot for both gunner skills & took it for a spin the other day but it didn't seem to significantly help my hit-rate :sceptic:

That is sad, although it makes a bit of a sad sense - that plane was really strong in good hands.

So the situation now is that, after grinding to Ta-152,  I suddenly need to pay 60 bucks for a premiumin in order to keep enjoying that play style? I guess I will extent my break from the game a bit longer...

Since there is so much good stuff to fly at T8, I don't bother too much with the Ta-152 any more.  BUT:

I run it with the 2x20mm and hub 30mm.  In that configuration, I can reliably snipe from 1200m, and when I close to within 600m, let the 20s do their thing.  It's not the long-range deletion machine it once was, but it is a fairly competent high-altitude energy fighter now.  I'd still rather fly the Me-208, or my Vampire, or the Pancake, or the three German HFs I have at T8, or my Ho-229, or my Me-109TL, or my IL-20, or my Me-329 - well, you get the picture.  I really did love playing this plane before the nerf, and would take it out by choice over everything but my Do-335, but now it collects dust, waiting for the un-nerf.
