A little off topic, but I thought I'd check for feedback here.  I want to get an inexpensive (maybe up to ~$40) bluetooth headset for using discord from my phone while flying.  There's a ton of headsets out there, but not much detailed info on my specific requirements around muting and I need help finding "the one".

The must have:

1. It must have a mute button on the headset.  That button must work with discord and not just for phone calls.  The mute should make an unobtrusive beep every 10 seconds or so when it is on.  The headset should support having the mute button on the left so I can use my throttle hand to activate it rather than my stick hand.

2. It must be comfortable for multi-hour sessions.

3. Bluetooth wireless.

The should have:

3. It should be open ear or single ear design or not have overly aggressive noise cancelling so I can hear the game sounds

Anyone have suggestions on sets that can meet these requirements?  I have a Logitech headset at work that I tried out that is OK, but the mute button is on the wrong side and it gives no indication whether you are muted or not.

There's lots of options on Amazon for <$40, but they either don't provide details on their mute button operation or claim it only works on call mode.  I don't know if that mode is compatible with discord or not.

I use discord on a phone as well. When i do this the android phone treats my time on discord as a phone call.
So that may simplify things for you. I am still using an old set of LG 730 wireless headphones with mic.
Which is a model not made any more. So knowing what is out now is beyond my knowledge.
Perhaps a trip to your local Micro center is in order.

Is it feasable for you to go into the discord app on your phone  and monkey about with its settings to get what you want?
I am fairly certain there is more to mic options it than just voice activated/push2talk/ muted.
Just as much as you can mute individual people in the chat room.
Another option is adjusting microphone sensitivity so the voice activation does not kick in when a cat sneezes across the room.
Or if a spouse / parent / child /roommate / the neighbor in the next apartment over is yelling from across the house about dishes.
But it does kick in when you project a whisper at the mic like your recording some ASMR.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is on par with my WinRate. Hit or Miss.

Hmm... I use a Razer Kraken Tournament edition with kitty ears... wired though. I looked at a lot of bluetooth headsets but couldn't find much south of 100 that was actually worth the money. I wish you luck and if you get something and its awesome.. let me know. I'd like to find an inexpensive pair of wireless headphones... not that I could afford them these days, but maybe I could save my pennies and get something around a 40 dollar price point. The Razer headset was a gift from the mother in law.

I only see the discord push to talk and voice activated options.  voice activated has additional settings for sensitivity like you mention, but I want to mute out all my raging, so that doesn't help me

Yep, those. It's got a 3.5 mm jack for basic use or a full 7.1 surround converter that plugs in via the USB if I wanna go fancy sound and I know its dorky for a middle aged woman, but hey.. they're cute too :P

I have thought about doing that or rather adding a key bind to my HOTAS to do that.  The problem is I am playing on the couch / TV.  I can't manage any of the discord stuff easily while in-game, so if I want to change voice channels or something like that it ends up being a big production.  By running discord on my phone instead I don't have to get up or leave the game to manage all that.  I have used the push to talk on the phone, but that is clunky as well, especially if the phone locks itself.  I don't like pulling my hands off the stick/throttle for very long unless I'm in a safe place.  I figure a mute button on the headset is quick and easy to hit.

LOL.  Thank you GonerNL!  That definitely needed a visual to go with it.  White Widow, the bad-A-S-S pilot with pink kitty ear headphones

Is there a specific reason why you don't download & use the discord client on your computer? I know there are issues using the discord browser app while gaming but the client works well.

I got an MPOW(click amazon) 059, I never use it for discord,

just listening to streaming stuff while working on other shtuff

sound quality is great and it has other features you may like

and it's cheap/ $35

mostly, the sound for the price is very good

if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

Ummm.  Maybe I need to revisit this.  I've only every played with with discord in the browser.  I just built up a new PC last week and finally have windows 10 and the ability to run apps, so maybe this could work for me.  Thanks for the suggestion!

I've been looking at assorted MPOW and other cheap headsets.  I've found a couple that may meet my needs, though the comments and reviews vary sometimes on the description of the mute functions.

There is an actual client for PC that works with Windows 7-10, then you will be able to use any wired/wireless headset & control all sound volumes through the pc.

I am currently using this headset https://www.amazon.c...,aps,192&sr=8-6 which has a mute button on the left side, I have no complaints with them.

Really though, thank you for the change in behavior. No insult, no underhandedness in that. I'm genuinely glad to see this.
