Blog time!

Just unlocked specialist on the 109E and had a bad match... my plane kept thinking its natural state was on fire...

So, your Emil self-identifies as a torch?  ;)

Some of the folks who fly at T5 use gold ammo in addition to having fire-starting bonus on their gunsights.  Pretty much every time they turn their guns on you, you catch fire.  I've played against a few of them.  Even with exhaust inerting, BTW.

Sure seemed like the 109E thought it was a Japanese fighter rather than a torch...

Still, switched to flying the F4U-1 today to better match against the 'weekly' missions that all had a GA component, I almost cleared all three today.

That is one plane I just could not stand.  I wish you the best of luck with it.  FWIW, the XF5U is worth the grind.

Thanks for the wishes, the F7F is so I can avoid having to grind through .50 cals on the F4U-4... I know a convoluted way of doing it, but I'd hate to have to back to using them after running quad 20's on the F4U-1 for so long....

Buy the 20mm with free exp.  I never fly this crap stock if it can be avoided.  I'll never "finish" a grind with free exp, I use it to start the next grind.

Free xp is something I'm short on, since I'm still so new after all. :)

Just got a Yak-3RD out of a loot crate from the event, and I hate the plane....

The lives of undergunned, highly-maneuverable low alt fighters get harder as you go up the tiers. If anyone makes a mistake and empties out their energy within reach of you, they’re toast... eventually. But it’s rare you get to choose the fight - you need to keep your eyes PEELED beyond the degree you would in a BF; you need to know what’s coming in on your before they even get in range. You don’t have much of a choice in what fights you take, but you are better at evading/countering/catching if you know what’s coming.

Hiiiighly recommend view range on the Yaks, actually, from my limited experience up to tier VIII in ‘em.

For Turn-N-Burn in the center of a map, it's below average. Gun is too weak. But, if you use Engine Cooling, you can practically teleport from one zone to another every 90 seconds. That makes the plane uniquely good at sneaking up on a human player from a whole zone away, locking onto their tail, and taking them out.

I've seen people recommend flying it without the bomb or rockets to eek out as much speed as possible. I enjoyed the plane that way.

Got the cannons upgraded on the F7F, that was a massive jump in capabilities, I'm not bothering with out board weapons as they seem kind of pointless on a heavy fighter.

I've got back the F4U-1 for now, as she is currently 28k xp away from the F4U-4...

That's the one weakness I have noticed with the 109 line; the engine seems to always be broken on them.

True, but the engines on the F7F seem to always take damage when shot from the front.... I might need to see about armoring them some how when I get to grinding it after the F4U-4 (28k xp away...)

For my last flight tonight I took out the 109E and felt dirty using it... like 19.9k personal points dirty...

For sometime after playing the F4U and F7F as well as reading what you've all said I lost my fear of Spitfires and see them mostly as target practice. If I'm lucky on my first pass I clip a wing or their engine before I climb away and do it over.

As a confirmed Bf-109 line pilot, I can confirm.  The Emil is a weapon of Spitfire mass destruction.   You don't even need universal ammo.  Regular ammo works just fine...

Update time:

My 109E is a total beast, able to kick the tail out and hammer head turn to get the guns on target almost instantly... She's been generating a fair amount of 'wth' cries today.

But the major update for today was I finally got the F2G, slapped the upgraded 20mm's into her and took her out, T8 is a rough place, but I'll get her done to get to the F-94, I want that M61, should be interesting to see it work.

Heresy, simply heresy.
