Tier 6 premium aircraft: which do you like, which do you dislike? We're starting to get more expensive here. We're also starting to get into a more diverse (and better balanced?) metagame.

The humble Mustang I was long my premium credit-grinder, and for all the supremacy of 20’s, I love the sheer volume of machinegun fire this thing puts out. Like the Fantome, I happened in to this one for free - and those two are the reason my Swift pilot outskills my 262 III.

Enough engine power to get anywhere, great speed, and buzzsaw firepower make this overshadowed plane my favourite premium thus far.

First, special shoutout to Reitousair for his updated guide to premium planes. Check it out for the evaluation of each airplane's merits by one of the best pilots on NA

Next... I don't actually have a lot of these mostly because my primary tier 6 plane is the fabulous Focke-Wulf Fw190 A-5. Or more specifically, MY fabulous Focke-Wulf Fw190 A-5, Lady Freya, Bringer of War, The Angel of Death and Instrument of Your Doom.

Buuuut, since I have to choose - the Mustang Ia is probably my favorite since its the plane that most resembles MY Fw190 A-5, with quad 20mm cannons but trading boost length for actually useful altitude and superior energy characteristics. Its basically a Mustang with nerfed hard stats and the firepower of a Multirole which at tier 6 is no joke. Properly Specialized and flown right, it can be an absolute beast.

The P-39Q is a plane I recently acquired and barely flown, but I like the cut of its jib. A massive derp gun on a fast, nimble airframe makes this a plane that I love to fly, provided she's properly supported. Feels a bit like a hybrid between a Yak-7 and a Spitfire. Which is somewhat similar to the [Edited]-ender, only the XP-55 is a hybrid between a P-51A and a Spitfire which makes it a phenomenal performer with meagre firepower. Both these planes are really fun if you can set up shop and spin around. Not so much on large maps (looking at you Cold Peak) or in games where your team is collapsing all over the place.

On the opposite end of the scale is the XP-50. I have no idea what to do with this plane. I kinda like its look mostly because of DC's Blackhawks, but the in-game plane is just absolutely rubbish. It lacks speed and acceleration and, while its technically quite maneuverable, its soft stats are atrocious - controls are stiff and awkward and the plane doesn't respond well to aggressive maneuvers, bleeding speed rapidly. To top is off, its outgunned by every multirole and even some light fighters. So despite its DC Heroes pedigree, I've permanently mothballed this hunk of junk after only two flights.

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

The A-26 was my first bomber.  It suffered from the turret nerf, but it is still pretty fun, and can carry, if you fly it right.  I have only rarely flown it right.

The SpitV DB605 is a beast at T6.  Great altitude, good guns, fast enough, turns enough - a carry plane if the other side doesn't have a really good heavy fighter or Emil pilot.

P-39N - great plane, turny as heck, and it's got the derp.

XP-55 - REALLY turny, and set up properly, can set all the fires.

Il-1 - a hilarious MRF that will shock some people with those heavy guns.

S-199 - a Bf-109G at T6.  If you're a 109 fan, this thing is a blast.

The A-26B was originally much more effective when that top mounted turret could swing around and add firepower to the forward firing guns.  It was a sad day when they stole that away.  I actually much prefer one of the tech tree bombers but this thread is about premiums so..........

Ki-88 is fine.

XP-55 is free.

I don't know the others.

XP-55 is free & turney, has potential to be surprisingly rapid but only 4* MGs.

P-39 N-1 its basically XFL-1 but quicker & with some extra guns, I think the 37mm has more auto-aim because it seems significantly easier to land.

Like the XFL-1 it was a mainstay for a long time for me but is mostly idle now & I'm not really sure how to build it.

I always know there's going to be problems when I see a Specialist one (often a flight) on the enemy team.

Haven't got the Q but as far as I've seen its the same stats minus the wing MGs (which contribute relatively little anyway).

A-26B was a great bomber, now bomber play is poop & its idle.

Spit Vb IM is absent from the list but an excellent plane, from recollection nearly exactly matches the Tree Spit V.

Spit V DB605 is Spit V but with 2000m altitude vs 1400m for the Tree plane. I'm not really a big fan but its probably the cream of the crop.

A bunch of the other T6es look pretty interesting, not necessarily amazing but with their own unique twists that should at least be fun in the right circumstances.

Tier 6 is a weird tier for fighters.
Spoiler

The tech tree planes that i have get better engines. Thus giving them better acceleration and boost time. Depending on the plane; it translates into an improvement of some combination of speed in the flat, altitude (In the climb And the dive) performance, or energy retention. Or they get better Guns. usually not both.

Each of the premiums address a particular issue of their tech tree counterparts. But at a cost.

the XP 55 is an anti-interceptor interceptor. It can climb and dive like any american fighter. And turn like a spitfire. Its fragile though.
Spoiler

But its free and premium. Also getting one requires a certain amount of skill and effort on your part beyond being a Wallet Warrior..

THe P-39 N is a different beast all together.   Its tough and specs nicely for turning. And some mad lad shoehorned a 37mm cannon
Spoiler

Nothing is free. It is very slow. And struggles badly at high altitude because it traded Engine power for Gun Power.
Spoiler

In spite of its hard counters it does very well. It makes mad credits and good exp. :coin: Its special camo is pretty good to look at, too. :great:

The Spitfire DB605 is exactly that. Take a Spitfire Mk.V and get rid of its High powered low altitude merlin motor for a lower powered high altitude Dalmier-Benz 605 motor.
. And not a single **** is given. It is quite unfair and one of the few genuine Pay-to-Win Premiums.  Or so you think ...

Spoiler

Killing this spitfire is just like killing any of the other ones ... except that you have to pull it higher into the sky. Which is; at times, more work than you want to do in a high altitude fighter.
THe unique paint looks pretty cool. But it could have been a honeybadger they way players use it.

its premium and feels easy to use. win-win. the first five wallet-warrior  name callings are free.

Well, these planes represent the top tier planes in my hangar.  One of them I bought (the Mustang I) just because it was on sale and I just had to have a Mustang in my hangar so I broke my standing rule of not buying premiums of a tier higher than I have earned on the Tech Tree (the best of which are currently Tier V's). The other dropped from a Santa Bag (YAY Santa Bags!!!) so I don't feel even the tiniest built guilty about flying her (P-39 N-1).

Both of these are solid performers and I like flying them both, but the P-39 N-1 is awesome.  I have 104 planes in my hangers but I'm pretty sure this is the best one there, or if not, is awfully awfully close (I love the Hurricane II and Mig-3 as well, and of course, BIPLANES).  It hits HARD, it's fast, it can fight up in the clouds or down on the deck, the thing almost turns on its tail and honestly ... if this plane has a flaw, I'm not sure what it is.

Of course there's a bit of historic disconnect here because the P-39's truly sucked at high altitude (no supercharger for most and, if it was a model with one, an inferior single stage version.  Plus it was stuck with the Allison V-1710 powerplant) but in this game she really is an awesome plane.

"Don't mess with me because I can squish you like a bug, that is If I should decide to notice your existence in the first place".

Yes, it's haughty and its arrogant but you're a battleship with 16 inch guns and Britannia Rules the Waves.  Maybe a bit of arrogance in this case is appropriate.
