I have been playing Warships for a little bit, and recently started playing Warplanes.  In Warships, the American tech tree is one of the most filled out, containing every time of ingame warship.  Why is the U.S. tree lacking in this game?  There are only 3 bombers, and 0 ground attack aircraft.  Is this for historical reasons, or are the developers just focusing on other nations?

Bombers are the most recent class added to the game. High tier Soviet and German bombers were just added this spring. US bombers are next up (maybe in the December update?).

The US tree focuses on multiroles, at least for now. The US Navy used dive bombers and torpedo bombers as their primary ground (or sea) attack planes. I have no idea how the developers could balance dive bombers. I don't think torpedo bombers have a place in this game.

Done grinding, now playing favorites:

the US lines are so quirky...

many iconic planes are AWOL, but we got the absolute freakshow acts, the pancake and the goblin

still think 'someone' is yanking us around a bit with those

welcome and read the forums, you'll progress faster

Warplanes has been the red headed stepchild of the Wargaming-verse for a long time so not a lot has been done outside the two base tech trees (German and Russian). We've been teased the American Naval fighters but that's it other than the tier 8, 9 and 10 bombers

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

One would hope that WG will eventually get off their "weirdest, most inconsequential planes to ever fly" kick and start work again on the tech trees. Thankfully, adding to existing tech trees is easier than creating new ones so I'm going to assume WG will eventually get around to these.  Just don't expect it to happen anytime soon.

But if you get bored, just remember, there are a lot of BIPLANES!!!

YAY BIPLANES!!!  :kamikaze:

Yes, it's haughty and its arrogant but you're a battleship with 16 inch guns and Britannia Rules the Waves.  Maybe a bit of arrogance in this case is appropriate.

The american tree does have certain gaps in it. But it is definitely more diverse than most .
Noting the single exception for carrier based attackers. Which No country has access to at this time...

America is filled out enough to have everything you want to fly covered in the mid tiers.
excepting for dedicated attackers which the Thud line technically is not but does the job anyway.

Russia has everything but a dedicated Heavy branch. But the Bombers can sorta kinda almost do it in a pinch
Germans have access to all the classes but lack diversity outside of their premium list until tier 8

England Japan China are so far from this discussion that any of them can be combined with the whole European tree and still be incomplete.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is on par with my WinRate. Hit or Miss.
I start on the right track and then sometimes make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...

They don't have the guns for it.

If you want american cannons to shoot buildings with, fly a Corsair.

Spraying those 8-12 HMG's will start fires good enough. And can chew up that one heavy ADA you need to kill to flip a cap.
But the bulk of the groundwork is being done by the 1000 lbs each of Rockets and Bombs.  Especially with Mary Lovehart doubling their damage in a dive.
