So, I generally don't seem to do well in light fighters. There are a select few I've found I really actually enjoy though. One of those has to be the MiG-15bis. I had been hesitant to go up the line, as on paper the end seemed underwhelming and I had gotten to the T6 and was in serious hate of my life trying to fly that.. thing. I mothballed it for the better part of a year before finally forcing myself through it on a booster a few weeks ago and continuing on up the line. Each step of the way after that was a miniscule amount of improvement until it finally gave me the MiG-9 and the MiG-15bis. The MiG-9 was like a softly whispered lover's promise of what was to come... and the MiG-15bis did -not- disappoint, she delivered in full on that promise.

Why am I so amazed by this? Because I -genuinely- enjoy the plane. The sustained fire from the 23mms is nice and that big 37mm derping things every couple of shots is just.. Joker laugh inducing. Then there's it's handling and speed characteristics which are excellent even -without- gear or a decent pilot but just... become smooth and sublime and almost without thought when you put those things on it. I know it seems like I'm raving on, but sincerely... I have no illusions about my skills in the majority of light fighters. I tunnel vision too much to be super effective at them and I know it. The joy I have in the MiG-15 is it is the first T10 that doesn't punish me for this. It has good enough handling characteristics, a high enough crit/fire chance, and enough speed to effectively take on pretty well any target you choose. Just point the nose at it, start rolling to minimize incoming fire, and start tapping those 23mms the second you're in range, wait for getting closer and then POUNCE with the 37mm and tear a crippled and on fire plane to shreds with a big alpha derp cannon.

I'm in the same boat: the MiG line doesn't really have any standout planes other than the I-220 until you reach tier X. But the 15bis is well worth it!

Since the MiG-15bis already has standout altitude performance, why did you go with G-suit over gunsight?

Probably because she turns in everything.

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

It was for maintaining the maneuver at high speed, to be honest. Half the time I am in yellow speed and it has good enough maneuver to not want to lose that, as it allows me to pick the target I BnZ at will. Secondary stats are re-rolled for accuracy, altitude, and more maintaining turn at speed. A few extra seconds on target is all that it needs and the extra bit of altitude allows me to effectively run after heavies at altitude as opposed to swiftly becoming dead weight/bait for them. Similarly, the rest of her gear is rolled for speed even though it is maneuver gear. The reinforced bolt carriers are to give me the possibility of hitting two or three targets in one swoop since my guns don't just -instant- overheat. Then too, if it comes down to it and my engine is out.. she's quite good at low speed maneuvering with the build she has.

I suck at turny planes as a rule. I don't have the frames per second to effectively manage it. When you drop to 4-5 FPS you can't hit anything and fast turny maneuvers can really bog my machine down. Instead, I build around the max dive speed becoming the max boost speed as well while increasing my ability to pitch up/down and maintain speed. I've considered swapping the wings for polished skin, to be honest... but I like the ability to maintain time on target and the lowered energy loss from changing trajectory at speed because it takes less time to make the turn and ergo it is less time you're bleeding speed.

This is why my Heavy Fighters are my best air to air efficiency rating... and my XF-90 runs polished skin, uprated engine, gas turbine, sights, and gas operated action :P I am quite good at straight line or up and down in big swoops.. but my machine and my arthritis mess me up in turny stuff.
