It seems that F3/F7 pull different responses from whatever planes on your team that can reasonably fulfill the job. F7 will get you a response from whatever nearest plane that can reasonably provide air to air cover; while F3 summons the nearest plane to your vicinity, and if done over a site, polls a response from a plane suited to capping it.

So last night, flying my B32 - F3 over a mining plant garners a response from any GA/bomber, while F7 gets you the attention of the nearest LF/MR/HF. “Help here” vs “help me”, generally. F3 will trigger a wide variety of cap-related behaviour over a site, and will generally pull a plane towards your vicinity if not (provided the bot isn’t constantly being distracted by more pressing matters)... while F7 is generally very useful at clearing your tail, provided you can get your attacker to straighten off a little bit. Extreme turning, speeds, or altitude can make it difficult for the AI to draw a bead/help in the first place.

F7 is "enemy on my tail, help".

F3 has several meanings ; outside sectors its "requesting support" and over a base it is either "defending base, need support" or "attacking base, need support" depending on the situation.

F3 is nice, when you use it after using F2 for calling a bot to help attacking a sector, you can get another bot to come your way.

The only one I use is F2.  I think the only thing it does is cause the bots who are already headed to that location to confirm, and doesn't cause any actual change in where the bots go.

I always use F3, but rarely see any tangible benefits.     I always use F2, but like CR said, the bots were already enroute

I see F16SkyPilot sending bots to attack humans, and it pays off like a slot machine.    usually

I might not be doing something correctly

That's F4.

I use it to have bots attack bombers that I can not reach. With a bit of luck there's a heavy nearby that will comply. Usually works.

Also use it to direct bots to the bomber stream.
