should new pilots pick a class and master it?

I'm back in the game after a long absence this weekend. The game moves faster at higher tiers, and I found myself not processing the map fast enough, and I'm not struggling with the mechanics. I do think that new players should move up slowly just from the speed of the game. I also think you should try a few lines at T5 to get a feel for the traits, because that's when planes really start to differentiate themselves. They are sort of generic before.

 

I also think tool tips should be removed from the game. Put quotes from pilots there. Because a lot of players read them and think that shooting ground targets in a TA 152 is a good idea.

ok I have 3 accounts and in the current meta of bombers and GA's I find myself in heavies mostly for the mobility and to an extent the firepower but I play on the Asian server mostly now better ping 150 v 350 thanks wargaming for moving to Texas  from CA got me an extra 100 ms turn and burning is very interesting there some of those guys are masters at it and they have a samurai knights of old view of it change to the middle till the last one standing. then there the internet cafe accounts these are noobs often not a clue dumb as rocks but i just find myself in heavies because of the meta bombers played lots of them just not fun same with Ga's targets is my view of them.

I have flighted with a friend flying his Ju-288C a few times, and we go to a mining plant together.  Well, before the red guys show up, I have nothing to do, so I stooge around for 30 seconds popping AA guns from 1200m.  Clears the field so he doesn't have to dodge flak, and gives me something to do before I have to shoot up red planes.  But hey, new players, please listen up:  If you are in a light fighter, PLEASE do not try to destroy ground targets unless there is really NOTHING else to do.  Like NOTHING else.  If there are any aerial targets at all, that's your job.  At least a 30mm cannon-equipped aircraft can do SOMETHING to armored ground targets.  Your .50cals in a Mustang?  No.

there's no way I could fly just one class, as a new guy

It took me 2k+ battles to finally learn that I will always suck at bomber-ing and GA-ing and don't get me started on MRs   


the only thing I really enjoy is flipping caps by shooting down planes, so why should I try something that doesn't fit me?


I just feel like I might have wasted a lot of time trying all of the classes, so I thought I'd ask if others had felt the same

My approach is simple. Try everything, keep what works for you, don't be in a hurry to get to the next tier.

It's not so much picking a class as picking a line because they all play differently. Even planes within a line play differently. The tough part is beginners usually don't realize the difference between a boom and zoom and a turn and burn. You could say, oh I made it to tier 5 and I want to fly fighters, so you focus the P-40 and the Spitfire... but they are two completely different play styles. Some of these playstyles are available in more than one class. If you like to boom and zoom, there's lines in 3 different classes that might appeal to you. So, yeah I'd say at least get every line up to tier 5 and then pick two or three lines to focus on, but I wouldn't say to focus on a specific class unless there's really only one playstyle you like, like if your only into bombers or GA.

 

 

 

The other way to do things is to just play every single line at the same time. That's what I have done. While that can be a lot of fun, it does slow you down as far as how fast you can get tier 10 planes. Which may or may not be a good thing.

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

Can't fit it on a Mustang. In fact the only Freedom Cal equipped plane that gets a gun slot is the Fisher Eagle

I flew everything to level 6, then focused on the spitfire line, the bf109 line and the german heavy line, im working on the japanese fighter lines now and the british multirole. I think flying everything gives you a better idea of what planes can do and makes you a smarter pilot.

I think the best thing a new player can do is try to figure out the physics system the developers created. Once that’s understood, it’s easy to start applying what you know between the different classes and doing well in any of them. Also, praying to the RNG gods helps a lot as well.

 

PSA - if you stay below 500m the high-alt AAA on the mining plants won’t shoot at you.
