There is a gamepad support now.

How does it feel compared to mouse and joystick? Is it better?

How the sticks are mapped?

Can all the buttons be mapped?

Can you control the plane with left stick and view with other? Or it's the other way around, left stick is view and right is control?

Can the D-pad be used for something?

I have tried a few battles with a gamepad.  Didn't really like it too much but I've been a pc gamer for longer than a consol gamer so anything related to precision aiming, I'm much better with a mouse.  That being said, I think that if a gamepad is natural to you, you can probably make it work.  I think the buttons should be mappable but I didn t really look into it too much and it's been a while so take that as you will.

Last time I tried to use a gamepad I wanted to kill myself. Better than a joystick for buttons and options... but the move speed of the sticks is mud slow and unless it has changed you can't turn it up really.

I thought the small sticks of a gamepad should be way faster than any joystick.

-should- be. Unless they changed it.. it's just not very sensitive/quick.

You have to manually adjust your gamepad to 0% dead zone and 100% sensitivity

Anyway here is a c/p of my mpost in that other topic:

It's my preferred control method, mainly because i play from my couch in the living room.

Weird thing is v1.9 had a flawless gamepad support. All buttons were mapped correctly, viewing stick (left stick) and d-pad(consumables and team orders) were both functional.

Ever since 2.0 was introduced the viewing stick doesn't work, not even assigning a rearview button will work (i used a workaround, with selecting nearest target and follow nearest target cam, but it's not ideal since you lose two programmable buttons, while you only want to check your six).
D-pad is also not programmable. i can assign functions to it, but whenever i go ingame they don't work.

I can program the axis of the left stick as throttle, but whenever i want to assign it as viewing axis, it accepts, but ingame it always refuses to work.
Whenever you go to sniper mode, you lose control over your aircraft so it has become pointless.

my current setup:

left stick axis: directional controls (with inverted y-axis)
left stick button: select closest enemy

right stick axis: unassigned

right stick button: lock nearest target camera

select: switch gui-mode

start: show team panel

a-button: fire (combined guns and cannons)

y-button: rockets

b-button: bombs

x-button: flaps

left button: 0% speed

right button: boost

left trigger: roll left

right trigger: roll right

current setup: sensibility to 100 and deadzone to 0%

I wanted to know about a gamepad, if it's better than a joystick. Because a joystick has problem with viewing - it only has a hat with fixed views, a mouse for example does not have that. Especially, that there is no radar now and map scale is 1.5 km smallest depending on the size of the map.

I thought one of the sticks on a gamepad can be used as a mouse with unlimited view around. It seems it does not work like that for you jack_wdw. It doesn't even work like the hat of a joystick with d-pad (not programmable).

If it did work (with view stick) it would be better than a joystick. But without it I don't think so.

I've experimented a bit with xpadder (mouse emulation through gamepad)
It lets you setup a desirable way of control for every button, also setup the left stick as a view stick.
But i found out that even with most sensitive settings reaction speed was lower than with the native controls.

So as for now i prefer the native controls, even when it's seriously flawed.
I can live with the absence of 360view, sniper mode & d-pad controls in favor of a little edge in reaction time.
I've tried joystick only a couple of times but in my case i prefer gamepad due to my setup.
1.9 gamepad controls could be better than a joystick, but ever since 2.0 i think a joystick would be better if your setup allows it.
Anyway i'm just glad to fly again from time to time.

As i proposed some time back, you have a mobile app which imo offers no real added value atm. Add a rearviewmirror option (let your mobile device function as an ingame mirror) to that app and it would make a lot of joystick- & gamepadusers happy, without even tackling the current flaws in these controls.

hey all, im trying to use a gamepad for this game, I have the controls option set to gamepad, but it still acts like M&K controls, meaning when I move the sticks to steer and what not it just moves the camera around and my aircraft tries to lazily fly towards wherever I point the camera. its like the controls are stuck in free camera mode or something. or like it is still trying to operate on M&K controls using the gamepad as a pointing device. how do I fix this?

What brand/make of Gamepad are you using? I fly with Xbox gamepad.
Never had something like you dexcribed.
Also make sure that you set sensibility to 100 and deadzone to 0%
