There are a lot of choices here at tier 4. As well, most people recommend fighters or heavy fighters at this tier. Tier 5 has a lot of good fighters in it, which makes the choice of playing a tier 4 fighter or heavy fighter a very important one. Tier 3 also has some very good planes. So, choosing to play tier 4 is in itself a decision that puts the player against other very strong planes no matter if they are top tier or bottom tier in the match.

My choice is the A6M1 Zero

This plane as the smallest turning circle at tier 4 for fighters. As well, once fully upgraded it has two 20mm canons and two machine guns. This is a difficult plane to master and I am no master in this plane. However, I like it more and more every time I play it and I see the potential of mastering this plane. Thank God that we have a plane in the tech tree at tier 4 that can do well against so many other great planes that it can face. There are a ton of premium planes at tier 3-5 that are outstanding. Having the Zero in the tech tree gives anyone a chance to at least hold their own at tier 4.

What tier 4 fighter do you like the most?

I agree with the zero! Don't even mind being down tiered in it. Nothing in tier 4 or 5 can turn with it.

My votes were actually for the ones I like the least because they can come up to altitude and shoot me!

Gave 3 votes:

-- A6M1 primary

-- Fantome secondary

-- C.714 for being unusual and different, kind of a pet project, it's the only tier IV fighter with 800 km/h dive speed

C.714 is the one I fly the most, with machine gun pods that are like turning on a fire hose of bullets.

I got the Model 81A-1 recently, and I really enjoying flying that one.

I-17 has its niche when top tier, and I enjoy the snake camo.

Fantome can be godly turn-fighting in the cap, but I don't use it as much since I don't usually feel like endless turn-fighting at tiers 4-6.

MY teir 4 experience is somewhat limited.
I really havent put in enough hours in tier 4  to give definitive answers about any of the lines with the exception of the germans and americans.
After 18 months and 550 hours of flight time spent in the game as a whole; the German tier 4 light fighters are my #4 (Bf109) and #5 (He112) most played. At 26 hrs and 21 hrs, respectively.
They are #1 and  #2 in teir 4 and lower. With an exemplary bomber being number 3 (15 hours in a Do 17).  Number 4 being a GAA (Fw 180 Owl at 4 1/2 hrs)
This is Not counting a few premiums with about 10 hours or so each because they are flown as trainers more than anything else.
Finally, the rest of Everything tier 4 and below gets less than 2 hours. And the majority of those having less than 1/2 hour.

Meanwhile, i found the American tree to be mediocre in the  low tier T&B meta until tier 5 when the sleeping giant finally awakens. But that's another topic.

Edit: [that memory of mediocrity is probably based on not really being good at Boom+Zoom when i was grinding them for the sole purpose of flying a P-38..
A potato laptop that had single digit frame rates if too many objects were close by sucked any fun i might have had for T&B shenanigans either.
I will revisit these low tiers at some point to see if there is more to them low tier planes than i remember.
Other than the occasional OP premium/Gift plane]

British are Meh.
Japs are Eh?
Russians are equal parts  What!?! and Really?!?

The premiums are a hot mess. Some being more Hot; others being more Mess.
The Chinese line is just a bunch of premium cash grabs that dont fit elsewhere.
The Euro line is a premium cash grab that can be made to fit Anywhere
(and as such is surprisingly worth the cost of a burger and fries at low tiers)

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is very hit or miss. Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.

The Bf109B is outright the strongest fighter at tier 4. I barely tolerated the Zero (as in, I constantly wanted to kill myself) and most of the others which is a pity because the C.714 has.. "character".

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

109B has speed, altitude & reasonable turn, bit weak on guns but not shonky.

I-17 felt dirty to play.

I-153 DM-4 is basically the beta plane but at T4 where the guns are a bit lacking & its even slower than the Zero.

XP-36F can be a lot of fun with 2* 23mm cannon in T4 but its not very fast or agile, Specialist with Enhanced/Calibrated gear makes it tolerable in performance.

A6M1 is amazing when you can setup on a key cap & mulch the stream of bots/players but when you have one of those matches where its a capping race and/or you have to try to solo Heavy ADA coordinated pairs it just sucks.

Hurricane Ia is my go-to T4 fighter, I kinda don't like to make things too easy but I have it down to 9.9s turn & it does have 8* 0.303s.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

I'd probably take the Hurricane Ia if I had one.  Since I don't probably the I-17, I thought that was a lot of fun.  Zero's just too slow.

I play many of those planes.

I like Ki-43-1 the best. It flies a little better (faster, higher, better roll rate too), has accurate guns, but the same turn as Zero. And less HP. And that's how I got my first Marseille medal.

Tier 4 is important tier and so, I fly Bf-109B, XF4F-3, P-36 and XP-36F, Bristol Type 146 and sometimes A6M1 and He-112 (they were much better in 1.9).

QFT.

I also enjoy the P-36, once I grokked the US way of employing fighters.   Good close in firepower with the 4 .30cal and twin .50s, better alt than most and decent speed.  But the Bruno?  it's a beast.  My only issue is very iffy accuracy at range with the hub cannon.  but once in close, it melts things.

Laughing.  My 109 will rip it apart from on high, never having to turn.  And if I don't vaporize you in a dive, I head straight up because the zero does not have what it takes to follow, then dive again and the zero is splinters.  Who needs to turn?

I love Zeroes who think that my Spitfire Ia can't turn with them.  They taste very good with ketchup.

Found several to be pretty good. P36 seemed to perform well. The 109B was all around good to play. Still on the Zero and played it last night. The ability to out turn almost anything always gives you a chance and the good 20mm guns gives it some hitting power.

I completely agree with booze, if you handle it right you don't have to turn with them, but most players don't have the disciplin to boost away. And crzyhawk, that's cool that your zero can't turn with your spitfire, mine's maneuverability is up to 122, not sure about the turn time, but its pretty low

This is Turn and Burn in a Nut shell. Especially at the low tiers where airspeed is very low.

It does. Until you are actually facing some of the more OP Tier 5's. Then you remember,
"Oh yeah. that's right. High altitudes aren't safe anymore. Even with Ultimate gear, I'm still tier 4." :(

Ki-43 and its premium sibling are underrated. They can turn, are fast for a turn fighter and fast for the tier.  They also pack good caliber (if small in quantity) guns, which offer increased range and crit chance over some other fighters.

Also, they lead to the excellent planes farther up the tree, starting with the ki-61, and at least getting to tier 8. The zero style dead-ends at the uncompetitive tier 7 Reppu.
