A first for me! Just flew an entire flight in an IL2-t without a single target ever being reached to rocket or drop a bomb on. With the targets being  spaced so far apart and being obliterated by bombers and those goofy rockets this game version has, it has made flying GA planes pretty senseless ,combine that with the targets locking for up to 27 seconds (no targets available) which leads to your planes demise it leaves one scratching their head as to what the point or role of the GA plane is in this version!

Yeah, GAAs are pretty much obsolete these days x.x

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

I have had it happen in my bombers.  Usually a combination of extremely weak opponents, extremely strong team mates, and being lower tier.  It is rare and I never felt obsolete.  Just unlucky at the time.

This is especially a problem in the mid tiers.  At T8+, it's rare to not have targets because in general you are able to move from one to another fairly rapidly.  In the mid tiers, the maps are too large and the GAs are too slow.  While I don't agree that the role of GA is obsolete, they are a lot less effective in some battles.  It all depends on the map layout and how quickly your team caps.

There are battles where it seems I am always in bridesmaid mode, but others where I am marrying the prom queen.

well... when I get those maps/teams

I shoot planes and crash/ditch or tailgunner out of cap

you can often drag a human way out of battle... nice

you can use respawn areas to move quickly

get inventive and if you get the win

it shouldn't matter if battle results place you fifth

that's just uses a stupid formula for the plane's design

if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

In a GA you can shoot other planes if there are no ground targets, so go after the enemy GA and other planes that fly across your sights.  In some of my GA I spend more time shooting at planes than bases.

Specialist planes:

SPAD S.510 :: P-40 :: MiG-3 :: A6M1 :: XP-44 :: Fw 190 A-5 :: Me 209 V4 :: Venom :: Caudron C.714 :: Ki-88 :: Wirraway :: Tomahawk IIb :: TsKB I-7 :: Ki-5 :: F2A-1

So true. Honestly its what i like most about #zeGerman flavor of GAA. Those guns are still good at shooting planes.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is very hit or miss. Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.
Specialist Planes i have:
USA: XP-31, F1C-2, Model 81A-1, P-40, F4F, P-38F, P-39N-1, P-47B, P-38J, XF15C, XP-58

USSR: Tu-1  UK: DH.100 F1. Japan: not even once. France: SE 100
Germany: Fw 56, He 112, Fw 190 A-5, Bf 109 B, Bf 109 E, Bf 109 E-3, Me209 A, Do 17 Z, Do 217 M, Hs 123, Ha 137, Hs 129 A, Ju 87 G, Me 265, Me 1099 B-2,  Bf 110 C-6, Me 410, Do 335 A-1,

I've not noticed this personally. No matter what map or tier i fly i always find targets. I think it more depends on which zones you choose to go first and where the rest of the team spreads out to, but that's just my thought.

The mid tier USSRs are so freaking SLOOOW.  Not surprised by what happened to the OP.

That is entirely incorrect.  I win too many battles for my team for this to be so.  Yes the mid tier USSRs make less of a difference, but the TSH 3 and the LBSH, and then the upper tiers can make the opposite team humans anguish.
