Me 209 any good?

I'd like to know what people think about the Me 209 and the Tier 9/10 German light fighters. I'm considering dropping the line and going up another tree but may not if the high tier planes are worth a damn. 

 

Is it just a tier 8 109G? Does it add something better to the 109 experience? I just finished losing my 12th game in a row in the Gustav, and I'm about to sell the piece of shyt and work on the Mustangs instead. It just doesn't work for me and never got a single x5 xp win in the thing this weekend. I can potentially use free xp to get the 209 but only if it's worth it. I have no intention of playing a 109 again though.

Keep going. The Gustav is the absolute bottom of the Messerschmit pile (and a lot of other piles) but it gets better. The Me209 is a decent plane with the same outstanding performance as the 109s but with much more usable firepower than the Gustav.

 

But the real reason to play the Messerschmits are the tier 9 and 10. The P. 1092 and P. 1101 are the two most insanely overpowered fighters in the game at this time. Unspecialized they are strong. Specialized with a full turn build they are arguably the most powerful planes of their tiers bar none.

The entire 109 line is great, except the F and G.  Hated them.  Before and after are fun and dangerous planes. I highly recommend grinding past the G for the rest of the line.  Some good stuff here:

Same as above.  The "G" was just so painful, but I grinded thru it and it was worth it.  Still have not picked up the uber-meta Me P.1101, but soooo many people spam that plane, plus the 1092.  

 

The Me 209 is pretty good.  A little tricky with the mixed guns, but still not as frustrating as the "G", so I say go for it.  

 

And yeah, I sold my G and, for that matter, the F and have yet to look back and say "maybe I should revisit".  Had a blast in the F, but they nerfed it really hard and it's never been the same.

Me I liked it but with the Mk 108 not the 103.

Which made it basically just a faster G.

I stopped the 109 line at the G.

But after getting the 109F back for the "Lightning vs. Friedrich" event and even specializing (and appreciating) it, I picked up the 109G again and grinded on to the 209A. 

No regrets ! The 209A is a good plane ; good guns, speed, maneuverability and altitude. Also specialized it.

Just got the P.1092, looks promising.

Flying the @09 is like flying in the emil. Its a dream machine that turns better than almost anything; vertically and horizontally, at any altitude it can reach in the game. 

The only problem with it is the usual inconsistent gun lay out.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is very hit or miss. Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ... 
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.

if you're in love with the 109E, you'll want to marry the 1092.      and still want to see the 1101 on the d/l

The 209 is totally worth it - a nice combination of speed, maneuverability, and firepower that give it generally good combat characteristics, able to occasionally solo sectors that can be captured via air kills and even fend off jets to a limited degree.

 

...it does need to be fully upgraded though, and upgrading it is rough as just a faster Gustav without some carryovers from other lines (synchronized cannons via Fw 190D [still need airframe upgrade to mount] and top engine from either Fw 190D or Bf 109Z; intermediate engine can be obtained via Me 265 if you're already down that way. Hub gun is parallel with Ta 152 so you either get it here or there)



WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...

Okay so you talked me into it. I used my stash of freexp to finish researching the 209 (already sold 109G so had to). Come to find out I had everything except the middle engine and the airframe already unlocked from grinding up the other lines!

 

First battle was a win! Something I almost never got in its predecessor. With the x5 that got me enough to immediately unlock the airframe and put the new guns on.

 

One more engine and it's elited, might skip that though, depends on if I end up wanting to keep.

 

Hopefully things will keep going well. Thanks for the advice!
