Want to blow stuffs up?!?

Well Tier II is when the heavyweights show up to sew death and destruction amongst the groundpounders and installations with a vengeance.  These planes can flip a cap faster than you can say ... well just about anything. They also tend to be some of my favorite targets even though they can be tough to take down with only a pair of 30-cal's.

So which of these masters of destruction is the BEST OF THE BESTEST!?!

For me, the answer is the Henschel Hs 123

The Hs 123 is sort of the epitome of the light ground attack aircraft which had their heyday in the early to mid 1930s (hey WG, You need to get the Hawker Hart in here too).  When compared to her direct competition in this area (the German Fieseler Fi 98) the Hs 123 comes out on top is pretty much every way. She's just as maneuverable, carries almost identical firepower but is both faster and tougher than the Fi 98.

Her other competition in this tier is the first of the Russian Heavy attack aircraft, the Kochyerigin TSh-2 which is a large, lumbering biplane with an enormous number of 30 caliber machine guns.  These two aircraft are sort of like apples and oranges but for me, the deciding factor is bombs.  The Hs 123 has them, the TSh-2 does not.

The TSh-2 is murder on soft targets but her ten 30 caliber machine guns just aren't heavy enough to deal with hardened targets.  The Hs 123 on the other hand does carry bombs with can deal with the targets the TSh-2 has more difficulty with.  She is a bit handicapped with having only two light machine guns which limits her ability to quickly take out soft targets with them.  However the fact remains that she can take out anything on the ground and the TSh-2 really can not.

The other big advantage (which she shares with the Fi 98) is that she is maneuverable enough to take care of herself when facing enemy fighters.  Don't get me wrong, she's not as fast nor is she as maneuverable as a light fighter but her toughness and quickness compared to most traditional GAA's gives her the ability to turn the tables on enemy aircraft should that become necessary.

So that's my pick, what's yours!?!

Yes, it's haughty and its arrogant but you're a battleship with 16 inch guns and Britannia Rules the Waves.  Maybe a bit of arrogance in this case is appropriate.

The TSh-2 used to be a real fun plane in 1.9.  I quit flying it over a year ago because of nerfing.  I didn't vote because I am not current on any GAA (not qualified, in other words).

And trikke, she is our beautiful writer.  Hands off!

I only have access to Tsh-2.  Hopefully the Hs 123 will become available at some point, or show up in Santa Bags

The TSh-2 is heavily gimped by the fact that it can't even use universal ammo...

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

While my TSh-2 didn't make my BEST OF THE BESTEST cut, I actually find her to be a very capable aircraft. One of my favorite things to do with her is raise her nose during a strafing run and hose down any red or white plane stoopid enough to fly in front of her or go hunting other GAA's that are messing up my target zone.  I've actually managed to shoot down up to 8 red planes in a single game with her which warms my little biplane girl heart!!  :great:

It's not horrible, but it's a GAA that gets most of its job done by killing planes rather than killing ground targets (and as the introduction to soviet GAAs that's not a good first impression). I really wish it had access to Universal Ammo, at least then you can light stuff on fire and do some actual ground pounding :sceptic:

This is my IL-2 (t). There are many like it, but this one is mine. :child:

Agreed.  The TSH 2 has lost its way with the type of GA WP turned it into.  It is not what it used to be at all.

Voting for the Henschel for historical reasons

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end
