So I have some rarely flown premium planes like the I-16-29 where at some point in time, I felt it worthwhile to put some equipment on this non-specialized plane.  I rarely play it.  Am doing so now for a token/pilot of the week goal, but still... I will rarely play it going forward.

I keep going into Service on this (and some other similar planes) and think about enhancements to the equipment, but I never do it.  I have just left it at stock because I really don't value the plane that much.  It's an OK plane, but not great, and I am not sure if by enhancing I am just putting lipstick on a pig.

Should I waste valuable resources or just let things stay as they are?  For frequently flown planez, I certainly see the benefit, but if I am just being a token beech with said plane, leave it as is?

What say you all?

Thats the catch!

If you're going to fly it at all it'll surely benefit from Calibrated/Enhanced equipment but its easy to use up all your Silver/components on those rare planes vs if you concentrate it on one or two frequently flown planes at a time.

Me, I keep flying some oddity for a Mission/completing Specialisation on a plane & 'damnit this thing has only half-calibrated Improved Lightweight Wings' -> calibrate & enhance -> suddenly I'm out of whatever is my critical shortage 'oh, well at least its going to be better than stock now'.

Later go back to my current rotation & 'wthwhy has this thing only got a half-calibrated Stock Uprated Engine?!?'

...:sceptic:

'Oh, thats right I spent all my stuff on that rarely flown plane I don't even really like' :hiding:

I did fly all my stuff with only uncalibrated, Stock equipment for a long time & maintained my solid 64.x% winrate.

But now I realise even just Calibrated Stock/Improved gives pretty serious improvement with minor negatives & have been trying to get everything up to at least Calibrated Upgraded status, some reworks as I've better understood mechanics & it seems to be paying off with my winrate up a fair bit recently.

But I keep finding some favourite plane with a damn half-calibrated Stock Uprated Engine again  & plenty stuck at Improved or Advanced because I continuously fail to build up enough to get past the Enhance hump :(

I hear you.  I am just a cheapskate by nature.  Or, a masochist, I have not figured it out... Or maybe I am both, or possibly one implies the other?

I dunno, damn mechanical parts, curse yee!

For me its mainly Flight Instruments that are limiting, then Silver (currently not, I got a nice multi-million buffer built up), then Airframe Elements but at the moment I am nearly out of Mechanical Parts also.

And here I sit with over 10K mechanical parts.  I'll trade you 10 mechanical parts or 15 airframe parts for 1 electronic part or 2 heat treated parts.  Oh, wait.  We ain't allowed to do that, are we?

I usually enhance from Stock to Improved on stock/elite planes, only after Specialist I look at Advanced or Ultimate.

For some reason I never run out of materials ... maybe because I don't calibrate at all ?? Or because I play all tiers and some materials have better drops on low tiers ?

I have been playing all my planes with just equipment, no enhancements, until last week.

Last week I started enhancing my premiums.

Cant remember if I started back playing in March or April but it is now the end of July.

I saw no need to enhance. Still see no need to enhance, just something I thought I would try.

I have various pieces of level 1 (basic) equipment that I've calibrated up to tech level 148 (full calibration bar of the un-enhanced equipment) that I swap between planes that I don't fly often.  So, I don't get the bonus attribute that enhancement would give, but I get a little more stats than an enhanced, but uncalibrated equipment would give.  Keeping it un-enhanced means I can swap it around without token cost.  Having it calibrated means it's a bit better than basic.  Having one set that I swap around means I don't waste supplies enhancing or calibrating stuff for planes I don't often fly.

Everything I buy I push to somewhere between Elite and Spec, then switch all the aircraft's points to enhancing the crew's abilities.  I stopped Specializing planes a while back.  Flying around in-game with a sign on my back that says "Shoot Here" got old after a while so I'd rather do without.  I play the Casino once in a while just on a whim.

Hardly a rabid player here, more casual and collector now and spread over four games, so ya know.

I use basic equipment upgrades on a lot of my planes.  They're expensive so I tend to add them one at a time to my top tier planes and if the cash and parts hold out, I'll eventually get them to "improved" status, which is where their pretty much maximum benefit is without specializing. If I'm going to specialize a plane I need to be certain that I will be able to improve them significantly and immediately.  Flying around a specialist plane whose upgrades would be no better than a standard plane is, in my opinion, a really bad idea.

But as for stock parts, yep I use them all the time.

Yes, it's haughty and its arrogant but you're a battleship with 16 inch guns and Britannia Rules the Waves.  Maybe a bit of arrogance in this case is appropriate.

Keeping it un-enhanced means I can swap it around without token cost.

 Interesting point.

I used to do stuff like that with WoT where I had 1 of each of the freely movable Equipment & would shift them around tanks that used them &/or dump them all on rarely used tanks I couldn't justify expensive permanent Equipment for.

So thats definitely a cheap way to get some improvement on your planes :great:

And with just one set like that the lack of GUI clarity about what plane something is on doesn't really matter because it'll be your only Stock gear mounted on other planes.

not much reasoning or strategy, I'm afraid.

I just stick stuff on favorite planes until I run out of stuff to stick

I equipt everything that I have. Even If I don't fly it. I've been programmed to do it. But I've been around a long time so silver is not a problem thankfully.  :hiding:
