I saw something that makes question what WG is doing with WoWP I noticed the upload speed for the latest update is on at 10 MBs

Update speed
Spoiler

So I paused the update and check my setting. It was set for unlimited.

Spoiler

I then change the setting for 25MBs thinking "Unlimited" means something else in Russian

Spoiler

I un-pause the update and I get the same result, 10 MBs download. I then pause again and set the setting back to unlimited. The update continues and took 40 mins total to download. This BTW is too long WG.

I then started running speedtest to check how my client system is going to the internet. Maybe there is some network throttling going on.

Here are the speedtest results:

Spoiler

To me I am not seeing a network problem. So my next choice is to run the WGCheck on the system. And I got to say in the end, these are good results I am seeing for network responses

WGCheck Results

Spoiler

So by all these results from WGCheck, the network connection is good, however based on my past experience with WG servers, the test ping servers are idle and not live gaming servers. There is no player loads on these WG network test servers.

So I have a few questions on the following up on for myself:

  • Is WG aware of this throttling situation?
  • Is WG throttling WoWP updates as designed?
  • Is WG throttling WoWP game play too as designed?
  • Is WGCheck a smoke and mirrors thing for WoWP or a valuable tool?
  • How can I be sure that WG is giving its all in networking communications for WoWP client systems?

Have any of you notice these network items too? I would like to hear you opinions on the subject.

To elaborate on this reply:  MB/s is what the launcher is reporting the transfer rate in.  Your speedtest reported it in Mbps.  These are different things. The conversion formula is divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s.  So, your 84 Mbps divided by 8 = the 10MB/s reported by WG launcher.  (You can Google "mb/s to mbps for further info).

I'm not sure if I want to say, "A for effort!" because of all that testing, and the detailed and well explained graphical post or if I want to say, "work smarter, not harder!" because a quick google of MB/s and Mbps would've explained the discrepancy.

Interesting finding. I always ping Google to see how my connection is doing; it's an old habit from days when the net was sketchy.  It's interesting to see WG copied my good idea.  Here's part of your 1% that I've given you over the years, SerB.

Guys you missed the point I am saying . Whether it is MB or Mbps they (WG) are not opening the network pipeline. In this case for the download it's 10.3 MB and not the 10.6 MB that it should be for the download. To me that's throttling.

:sceptic::facepalm:

Thats a new low in your idiotic campaign to try to make WG look bad and a pathetic cover for your failure to tell the difference between MB vs Mb.

BTW the latest major patch was ~1GB so your ~7GB was several patches out of date & about 30 of the 40mins you say it took will have been mainly HDD work repacking files your side.

Guys, I think someone who can interpret the data from the system (and knows which numbers to mask...) should be given at least a little bit of credit when it comes to MB vs Mb... I can't imagine that he didn't know the difference and I think his point does stand. FVE has been around a long time and he's been involved in a lot of the technical side of the game - let's give him some credit.

That  being said, the numbers are not accurate - I have a download speed of 15.08 Mbps on my connection and I get 7 MB/s download on the game client. With the conversion listed above, I should be getting around 2 MB/s download on the client...

Cheers!
Glenn

When you're getting over 80Megabit/s its completely pointless to quibble over 1-200Kilobit/s.

Its such an insignificant variation the only logical cause for complaint is misinterpreting MegaByte/s for Megabit/s.

As Hoom points out, at the transfer rate of 80 megabits per second, the kilobit variation between speedtest and download is a fairly small difference and you would likely find that kinda difference between speedtest and any download u were doing.

It isn't like they'd win a lucrative prize for updating everyone's game clients "wicked fast", so I'm puzzled why you expect them to?  When WG tells me it wants to update one of my games I just postpone it until I'm in bed and then I don't worry about how long it takes.

Everyone complaining of MB and Mps.   Rich people problems, I tell ya.   I'm at 40 to 50 kbps.
