I have the special pilot for my Spitfire 1a.  I know that his skills do not translate to other aircraft, but if I retrain him to another aircraft (say my Hurricane), will his bonuses still work when I drop him back into the Spit Ia?  I assume it's not worth using that pilot on my higher tier aircraft.  Is that a good assumption?

Couple of things to clarify.
You are correct when you say Spitfire 1a Mastery only works in the 1a.
Final Dash is different in that it works just like any other pilot skill he can learn.  Those skills work in any premium plane you put him in and any tech tree plane (like say a hurricane) that he is currently trained to 100% proficiency with .

Higher tier aircraft tend toward doing more damage and thus generating more xp. premium tier 8's especially. and seeing as the pilot already has 5+ skills he is gonna need all the exp you can earn.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is much like my WinRate. Hit or Miss.
Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.

Awesome, thanks for the help.  I moved him up to my T8 Spitfire and moved the other one down to my Tornado.
