You are correct when you say Spitfire 1a Mastery only works in the 1a.
Final Dash is different in that it works just like any other pilot skill he can learn. Those skills work in any premium plane you put him in and any tech tree plane (like say a hurricane) that he is currently trained to 100% proficiency with .
Higher tier aircraft tend toward doing more damage and thus generating more xp. premium tier 8's especially. and seeing as the pilot already has 5+ skills he is gonna need all the exp you can earn.
Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is much like my WinRate. Hit or Miss.
Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.
