edit: Forgive me for no being mature enough to be blinded by naive optimism when patch after patch, year after year, the game fails to deliver even the basics of what the players need. Pardon me for looking out for the interests of the players.
The game and forum will receive a positive response from me when the devs add something to the game the players have requested in a way that fulfills the player's wishes, instead of changing the damn SOUND every...single....damn patch.
As a member of the old guard, your opinion is meaningless. Obviously. [eyeroll]
With every new iteration past 1.4, WG has gone further away from what 1.4 players wanted. But they didn't go toward what new players wanted, either. OK, sure, the PvE aspect added something new and interesting, and I get that some folks can't deal with that. But the shrinking player base tells us that something is fundamentally wrong with WG's approach to this particular part of their trilogy. Already, the 3D nature of air combat made this particular property have a steeper learning curve, and even dumbing down the flight physics didn't really change that much. I have to think that the amount of time spent "fixing" the balance issues wrought by the flight model simplification is a wash in overall development time.
I have enjoyed the new content, but have difficulty understanding the work put in on that without really any work done on the obvious and oft-reported bugs. I even think that if they said "hey, pilots, we're not going to be introducing any new content for a while - we want to straighten out the kinks that have developed along the way first", most pilots would cheer about that, and accept no new content for a while. As a sop to "new stuff", bring back plane anniversaries, or have 5x weekends, or 5x salvage days, or something where no new coding has to be done, just change a multiplier here and there, and call it good for two weeks. You could buy six months by just offering fun rewards for just playing. During that six months, you figure out the bugs, work them out, and roll out mini patches to fix them. Bring people back who quit because of bugs, and hold steady at player population.
I dunno. Maybe what I'm suggesting is too complex, or difficult to administer. The thought process in WeeGee land is inscrutable.
