Hey Guys!

I wanted to get a thread started where everyone can discuss their ideas for the minimap. The visibility system is linked to the minimap for sure, but I think having separate topics for each is better since there is a lot of stuff that doesn't directly cross over.

I saw some good ideas about displaying visibility ranges, gun ranges, etc in the visibility thread and thought that would be cool to hear more ideas on in here!

Cheers!
Glenn

2-Dimensional vs. 3-Dimensional

-- The mini-map tells us 'horizontal distance between targets' quickly at a glance, but 'vertical distance between targets' is not represented.  So, if you see an enemy in your area on the mini-map, you have to look back to your screen and cycle through targets, or go into a free-camera view, to figure out their distance.  I think that if 'vertical distance to target' could be easily represented on the mini-map, that target selection/acquisition and avoidance could be more rapid.  One way to do it would be via a slight shift in color (such as light red to dark red), or slight shift in transparency, so that you could quickly know which targets are within a prescribed range.

While not truly accurate of WW2 mini-maps and how they work.

I too would like the dimensional and visibility scheme added to the mini-map.

I would also like to be able to see the plane types with out the current " alt " key form.

i fly in alt int all the time, except in bomber escort         i need that addl info, and i don't trust the 'pointy nose' directional stuff any longer

WG, we know that coding is hard, but please spend some time/money on the minimap, fixing what has gotten broken over last few months?

it's a chocolate mess

Make its size and position changeable... Honestly. I hate its position but I know others like it.. so maybe just let us drag it wherever on our screen we want it and the -size-.. not scale, not zoom.. -size- as in how much screen real estate it takes up being changeable would be nice as well. I've mentioned other ideas, but I feel like that, color-coding the pips based on class and making icons smaller/bigger dependent on altitude differential or more/less opaque while retaining the pointy heading indicator would be good. Possibly the ability to change the transparency of the radar.. or perhaps alt-view actually gives a full screen spanning minimap in transparent with -far- more detail than normal maps? Be nice to be able to mark a couple of specific targets out in a certain color if you get report of them (other than the base colors used for specific classes)... and I dunno.. maybe make it actually line up properly with the nodes on the map so that it doesn't show you over a node when you are, in fact, half the map over.. even though its indicating all air targets correctly in terms of position. (that last part was me being cheeky about what I find to be one of the more annoying bugs).

A waypointing system where you can mark out waypoints for pathing that then give you an onscreen arrow indicator ala the radar/vis system already but in say.. a color like green or something not interfering with the already decided schema would also be nice. This would be minimap, map, and a few other system sort of thing so not real sure where to add that suggestion and throwing it here because it would at least -affect- the minimap as the waypoints would be displayed on it as well.

I usually disagree with your posts, but this would be a nice change.

You do know the < 9 > and < 0 > keys change the size and the < - > ,<+> change the range.

I can not remember what keys but the orientation can be altered too. Either locked ( north on top ) or direction of plane 9 floating )

I found the floating ( locked on plane ) to be better for me.

Or are you wanting it bigger than max size.

Being able to change the location would be of benefit too.

hmmm    didn't know that, but i think 'floating' might be hard for me to get used to

anyone know that key?

The mini-map should be 100% accurate.. And right now you can't trust it a bit.. Closest target should be large arrow.. Right now you can't even trust it as to where your wingman is.. These arrows seem to be all around me when in flight and I half to manually look around.. Tired of it.. Get it right already, this game has been out how long?

Just mod your game!!!

They need to fix plane markers not being removed when they die. I also want to see ADA's class in alt view

None of those keys seem to change the amount of screen real estate it takes up for me, which is what I want to do. I want to make it bigger or smaller dependent on which plane I am in and I want to -move- it dependent on that somewhat. THat bottom corner is the worst place for it in most of the planes I fly.

Also, the minimap thing is in advanced settings in options for making the map rotate or not with your cursor.

all I can seem to change is how far in/out it is zoomed, not its physical footprint :/

Thus why I've repetaedly requested that -and- the ability to move it. cause I didn't know anyone could change it.. I can't on the steam or the WGC client :(

Use the <0> and <9> key above the letters and it should change

the size of the mini-map circle. I think there are 4 different sizes.

Use the plus and minus keys next to the backspace button to change the range or how much junk you see in your mini-map.

Again, tried this. Doesn't change the size of the mini-map circle for me on either client. I've also checked keybinds. All I can seem to change is the zoom in/out on it.

I read your suggestion the first time, I've already tried it repeatedly before you returned to the game even (Not, weirdly, actually the first to suggest it to me even). I've assumed it simply didn't function properly til now and was another vestigial thing that was never completed.

I'll have to start digging around to see what it is borking it up for me.

The minimap works fine for me, but I would love to have the relative altitudes of the various planes displayed somehow.  Change the size of the icon to represent distance from the ground.  Very small icons represent closer to the ground.  Very large icons indicate higher from the ground.  This includes my plane's icon.

i remember, years ago, that the minimap presented several 'options' in alpha, maybe CBT

it's so fuzzy, but i don't think any of them stuck
