First let me start off by saying I went from a 51.59% WR to a 51.61% WR.

Kudos to bandofjackels for chasing me out of tier 5 into tier 8

I could not figure out how to counter his Spitfire-1a with my P-40

Then again he has always been a better pilot than me.

WOW, just WOW Wargaming.

What were you thinking when you made this mode?

Wait, I know," How can we chase players out of the game."

You managed to exert the ultimate control on your player base

forcing them to fly a specific way. This is not the military nor a dictatorship.

I would not buy this game if it was on the market.

I have only flown the fighters for 100 gold before writing this and I am sure game play will get worse.

If you are on the side with the bombers ( escort )  you have to protect the bombers from the heavies.

while engaging fighters. Toss in a few fighters and walk away with a winged legend and a win.

Tin foil hat theory : not even going to comment on the required aircraft listed in the goal section.

in my case it was American, do not know what everyone else had in their list.

Who knows, perhaps it gave me some sort of MM or point advantage towards winning.

If I flew a different nation the game was a loss.

If you are flying to save your bases and defend against the bombers.

You now have to work on taking out the Bombers, GAA and heavies.

You have to protect your heavies from the fighters leaving them to take out the bombers.

At the same time you need to know when to take out the GAA.

This would be a good mode if you played " REDTAILS " but for this game it's not good and not fun.

It is just too restrictive.

Because of the bomber flight I do not see the player bomber pilots scoring much nor the GAA having much luck.

The player base, I hope shares my opinion, they want the freedom to fly around and destroy stuff

with a chance of winning by merit not by some algorithm of control.

I think I will take my increase in win rate and my 100 gold and walk away for the weekend.

This mode heavily favours Heavies, you need that firepower, speed & hitpoints.

Can still rack up some huge scores in other classes but its harder.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

Every win I was getting a winged legend and with a couple of losses too.

In a fighter no doubt

Bright side is you make a killing in XP & Silver even on losses.

for the record, I was doing just fine in German bombers.  Higher and faster than the bomber flights, and able to take out some of the AAA to make the flights route easier.  5 wins in 5 games.

That being said, Bomber Escort is a Heavy Fighters DREAM.  low altitude T&B, not so much.

Yup.  This mode is my jam, for sure.  The Tu-1 on defense is LOL.

Ah, bandofjackels. I don't remember if it was in my SE-100 or Bf-110C-6 but I utterly beat the crap out of him and his Spitfire Ia at least once last night.

An average player with an average goal: greatness, someday. Today, mediocrity will have to suffice. But no matter, I will always play to the best of my ability, and I will always strive to make the best of my ability just that little bit stronger and better.

Thanks for the heads up. It is good to know the bomber pilots can still score well.

And that there is hope for this noob bomber pilot.

This stage benefits mightily from teamwork. Its most fun in a flight with a competent wingman. Although the bombers are the focus, the human is actually better in play shooting down enemy fighters as quickly as possible so they don't interfere with with your bots hunting the bombers - bots are terrible at dogfighting but they can tear bombers to shreds if left alone in sufficient numbers. Your job as a human is to ensure that your bots are left alone in sufficient numbers (or to make sure they aren't left alone if you're attacking)

Overall, its a really hard mode if you're flying solo; its night impossible to solo-carry this mode unless you literally make the perfect run. It just takes too long to move from one side of the map to the other AND do what you need to do when you get there. You're dependent on competent teammates - which is a scarcity - and this also means that differences in skill between the two teams can have catastrophic results.

If you think Bomber Escort is bad, wait 'til you see the flaming bag of crapthat is Invasion. I personally like bomber escort... but only when I'm flying with someone who at least knows which end of the plane is pointing forward.

***

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

I've finally managed to get decent WR out of bomber escort, though I still feel I don't "get it" as I often win when I feel like we are losing.

Agree with your sentiments on Invasion.

Anecdotally I will note that I've noticed that my ranking consistently goes UP in Invasion mode when I don't play at all.  This would indicate that the folks immediately above me in the rankings typically do worse than their averages in that mode and end up dropping below me.

Bomber, gaas, heavies, mrfs and energy fighters have all had a high win rate for me in this mode. High enough my overall win rate has shot up a third of a percentage point.

Thanks for your input on the other plane types.

My post may not be fair since I only flew fighters but after a couple of rounds

I felt as if I was locked into a certain path and play style.

Like the old video games that placed you on a certain path and you could not enter every door, go around a building or find an alternate route.

Same here, the smart one's in my clan pick the right plane.

The really smart ones flight up, pick the right plane and do +90%.

We have pilots doing 90-100% w/r by flying the right planes even in fighters.

TnB does seem fairly pointless in this mode -if- I am being honest and Bombers feel almost outsized as do -certain- heavies (not all heavies are created equal, alas). Honestly energy fighters and energy-style MRFs with air to air rockets are... gigglingly fun to do in this event mode. My BV P.215.02 and P.1101 come to mind as examples of "gigglingly fun" and for some reason if I leave the ground ordnance off the 215 I almost never end up on attack? Dunno if that's sheer dumb luck or some part of the current mode's MM code.

More completed/fleshed opinion:
Fighters are hit and miss. Low altitude TnB don't seem super viable at the moment because they have a dearth of targets comparative to mid or high altitude fighters, but otherwise I don't see them as too handicapped. Bombers seem to be pretty straightforward... Either you're death zerging your ordnance into their face or you're in the stratosphere taunting them to just get their asthmatic behinds up there while you drop death from above and either way you should be able to take their flak bases down unless the rest of your team are literal lemmings. GAA, again.. pretty overall straightforward except maybe hang back and let the bot GAA soak up the hate instead of rushing out ahead of them like many usually do. MRFs.. what can I say.... this mode almost seems like -the best- mode for them... I might be crazy though. Heavies.. are... heavies.. not all heavies are created equal.. but the -majority- of heavies right now I would say can essentially punch out a 20k+ point game without actually trying too hard -while- not dying much if at all.

Flighting does seem to be a significant advantage in this mode. More so than, honestly, the previous one or the normal conquest mode

saw a pilot hit 36.8 K personal points earlier today, in a light fighter.   He was on Defense, and suffice to say, myself and the rest of the Attackers didn't get a sniff of a win. Also saw a bomber pilot around 26k personal points, and it wasn't Ziggy or Prenz!  (alas, it also wasn't me!!!)

Update:

After reading many, many comments.

Jumped into an IL-40 P

I did not see any enemy GAA. Imagine that and I wonder why ( sarcasm )

Out of the 3 games I was able to play all were wins. 1 vs 1, 1vs 1, 2 vs 2

Scored big time with lowest of 20K+ 4 chevrons and highest of 24K+star chevrons.

did not screen shot the last win but it too was above 20K and wealthy.

Again its is just simple Monty Hall gaming with a forced play style.

I actually felt sorry for the enemy knowing it is a losing situation for them.

So yeah I shot a couple of them to put them out of their misery.

Still not a good game mode.

During the nearest server reboot we'll deploy balance changes for the Bomber Escort Mode:

  • Decreased the number of bombers in the bomber flights by 1-4 depending on the battle phase.

This confirms Attack had too much advantage, will at least somewhat bring things back into balance.
