Just curious what other people's thoughts are on it. I'm definitely digging on it for my Heavy Fighters, but I've not branched out using it on other planes yet.

I think the benefits of seeing a little further and not being seen slightly longer don't outweigh the benefit you get from the gunsight. I'd much rather have a more concentrated fire on a target than worry about when I'm going to see or be seen. Plenty of cannon fodder running around keeping things spotted for me.

Cheers!

I was quite excited to put it on my Bombers as a way to avoid/reduce incidence of Bomber Seeking Missile Heavy Bots :)

...But then I found that it requires a Cockpit slot and out of 9 Bombers in my Hangar only the A-26B & Pe-2s have that slot even for Specialist

Edit: and its not even an option to mount it on A-26B. (haven't got Pe-2s Specialist yet so dunno about availability for them)

I am debating whether to put it on my JU 287 or my RB-17 and experiment with it. The Tu-1 special seems to -only- go on the Tu-1 plane, meaning that you only get NRE for T8+ as "normal" equipment and the Tu-1 special on the Tu-1 only. Which.. sucks. I wanted it for the A-26B lol.

It's Tier VIII-and-above-only equipment(yeah, I know, a special kind of stupid), so no on the Pe-2's and the Tu-2 as well. However, I do believe the Tu-10, Tu-12, and Su-10 will be able to have it.

That it was introduced with the Tier VII-IX Russian Bombers gives me a bad feeling about this. Either the bombers right now are underpowered and WG intends for these to be used to prop them up, or they are balanced and WG wants to make them #russianbias overpowered.

Or WG could just be trying out something new, visibility-system-interacting-with equipment, but knowing WG, when do they ever have the purest of intentions?

Actually, based on whats been said on the spotting mechanics thread, it makes sense for it to be tier limited, otherwise you'd have literal invisible bombers at tier 3 and 4 (since concealment is a flat constant that is modified by Camo and Equipment but spotting range is modified by period)

True, but Tier V-VII wouldn't be.

Edit: Also giving the Pe-2's and Tu-2 it as well would not be unwarranted, given that they are played so low they could NEVER be invisible, only you'd see them coming much later than currently but eventually you would still see them, because of their relatively low attack altitude. At least the Pe-2s(we will have to wait and see on the Tu-2) right now are definitely on the weaker side for bombers, and could use a bit of a buff. This would go a long way towards making them more comfortable at least, if not more competitive.

Hmm, well I don't really want to give up Gunsights on anything so guess it stays in Depot :sceptic:

Ehhh.. .Depends. German Bombers would since they usually cruise at about 3300m. So if you take the 2000m spotting range and deduct 500m, you'd still only see them at 1500m. Unless you were a particularly high altitude fighter tooling along at 1800m (remember that the average Heavy at tiers 5 - 7 only hits about 2000m optimum), Ju88As and Do217Ms could just about hide from the rest of the field especially if they made good use of cloud cover

I think a good case can still be made for the Pe-2s to be given it.

I've been using it on a couple of my T10 heavies to literally sneak-attack everything.. I stay in clouds or at distance until I'm about to break cover, then I slam the boost down and fire, zip off, let out of the boost juice and do it again. It's an effective methodology so far with both the Javelin and XF-90. Uncertain on the 262 HG III yet. Its natively lower accuracy and shorter range may make it less workable.

If you reassemble the stats you can get +10 accuracy and +5 accuracy against moving targets as secondary stats by the by.

Possibly, but I think WG is literally intending it to be T8+ only and of course the Tu-1 special NRE. I could be wrong, but I doubt they'll start making specific equipment types available to only certain specific planes. Though admittedly this NRE on the Tu-1 somewhat sets that precedent so.... Who knows now actually.

I have to agree with GeorgePatton and I will add.

THE DARN THING IS BROKEN !!!!!

I placed it on my GA and my GA has been running GOLD camo since before 1.8

I still see red arrows on the screen everywhere.

After watching several replays, I still see red arrows everywhere.

I never see any red arrows just pop up out of no where.

I still get attacked from 1200 meters while flying 20 meters off the deck.

Went back to my gun sight. I will just keep listening to Spotify, WG radio stinks.

The reduction is 500m at best. Even without bonuses, the spotting range for period 3 airplanes is 2500m. At best you'll be spotted at 2000m, instead of 2500m. Having someone charge at you from 1200m away is already pretty good.

Still, I have heard that the equipment at least is broken so you're probably right anyway.

Either way I think the problem lay's in the coding of the 3 different markers.

The marker on the radar

label marker

plane itself.

You can still spot an enemy easily on the radar and by its label

long before you can spot the plane.

You can be clear across the map and still watch a plane respawn on the radar.

Granted WG is trying new things but I do not think they are touching all the bases and relying on the placebo effect.

On the face of it ... stealth is a thing. And its a good one. But it is not the only thing.

TL;DR It can set up a potent early advantage. But guarantees nothing soon after the shooting starts.
But for some players, that opening advantage is all they need ...

I am curious how this actually plays out in the fighter vs fighter meta.
sabers with nav equipment vs mig bis with gyro sights; historically went a certain way.
in game (where G-load isnt really a thing) this may not be the case...

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is much like my WinRate. Hit or Miss.

Honestly, right plane, right equipment loadout.. I feel like either a sniper or a dagger rogue assassin using it. In that if I miss.. if I.. fail... I either need to get out of dodge real fast because its going south -real- fast.. or I am dead. I kinda like that with some planes. It -works-. I don't see NRE replacing sights, just giving an option other -than- sights. Similarly to how I started using cockpit armor on some planes even when people said it didn't make sense because I thought the native accuracy of the guns + MM was enough.

I -have- only experimented with this on the Javelin and XF-90 so far (as I mentioned), but I'm really honestly digging it. I put the USSR long-range gun barrels on the Javelin and NRE.... The combination requires high precision but is effective when I don't biff it up.

Basically, I utterly agree with your dissection and am going to be -fascinated- to watch this all play out, do my own experimentation with it, and see whether they change any of the stat loadouts for the sight or the NRE, though NRE seems -fairly- balanced right now given the current game.
