So, as you know, I am a new(ish) player with not a lot of hangar space, so I sell most planes when I have ground through them to the next Tier.

However, I do keep planes.

My list of keepers(tech tree, of course, I keep all premiums that I get) so far is:

Do 17 Z(My first bomber, it's a good-looking plane, what's not to like?)

Ju-88A(A plane I did NOT plan on keeping when I first started grinding through it, but by the time I unlocked the Do 217 M, it had started to grow on me, and so I kept it. I still play it now and then, as I do with the Do 17 Z)

B-17G(HISTORY FOR THE WIN! Plus no other plane in the game has so far beat its patently ridiculous count of 13 guns)

These are all the planes that I have finished all normal grinding of(save specialist) and still have kept so far. Once I have finished all normal grinding(save specialist) of other planes and keep them, I will add said other planes to this list.

I will continue to update this as I keep more planes.

Edit: B-17G now a keeper as well

As you move along further up the tree

you will eventually want to buy more hangar spaces.

Most definitely keep all of the premiums.

There are planes I have to purchase again for various missions.

Sometimes WG re-balances a plane and it becomes awesome for a few patches.

Yeah, eventually, when I'm not so chronically short on hangar space, I will repurchase and keep the TSh-3 and also repurchase and keep the Ju-87G Stuka.

I do slowly grind tokens and am able to, every now and then, purchase a new slot(and missions that reward you with slots are helpful too), but I just can't do it fast.

I used to sell them as fast as I could, except for a few - like the German HF line.  I have every German HF offered in the game.

I sold most of the Yak LF line I ground out, but I did keep the Yak-15, and I kept the Yak-3.

I have the Brit MRF line from Hurricane to Sea Hawk.

I have the entire German LF line (except the T1 plane and the Bf-109F and G, but I plan on buying back the F and G.)  I have sold the German GAA line, and most of the Soviet GAA line.  I want to get up to the T9 and T10 in both of those and keep those four planes.  I have much of the American HF line, and am grinding to T10 there.

One of my problems is lack of pilots.  As I sold planes, I just moved pilots.  Instead of grinding pilots and planes, I just ground planes.  So that means my T10 and T9 planes have great pilots, but the lower-tier guys have 3-skill pilots.  Which is fine for low-tier planes, since the humans I meet down there are not all that great, but sucks for mid-tier.  I might cheat and buy some pilot skills.

Selling planes makes puppies and kittens cry. Do you want that on your conscience?

Oh, I'd love to keep all the planes I don't particularly hate, but hangar space bids me either keep all of them and grind at about a rate of one new plane every two months, or sell some and grind much, MUCH faster.

I haven't the patience for the former, so I have adopted the latter strategy for now, at least until I start getting Tier VIII+ planes so I can complete token missions. I will be back to many, MANY planes though, including the TSh-3, possibly the Hawk 75 M and P-23, and certainly the Skua, plus many more.

When deciding on what planes to keep, I think it's helpful to keep one of each type for each of the three tier brackets. Or, at least one fighter/mr/heavy and one ground attacker for each tier bracket. This way, you always have a plane that is good for the daily missions. That would give you a max of 15 planes in addition to the ones you're working on upgrading, which isn't a whole lot of hangar slots in the grand scheme of things. For example, I didn't keep the Ju-88A because the Do-217M is way better in every way in my opinion and I didn't really see the need for keeping more than one bomber in the tier 5, 6, and 7 bracket.

This sounds stupid but after you have played for awhile you will have more silver than you can spend and hanger slots will not be a problem anymore.    :honoring:

That must be a LOOONG while. I go to zero every time I get a new plane, and I have at least 6 planes I've researched that I can't afford to buy now.

For myself, I just buy new hangar slots with the gold I got in Santa Bags.  I should have bought the dozen hangar slots deal when it was in the premium shop.

Acquiring hangar spots appears to be much more difficult than garage spots in WoT. I've sold a lot of favorite planes to free up space, obtain credits, or both.

Favorite planes:

Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate  |  Kawasaki Ki-102   |  Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien  |  Bell P-39N1 Airacobra  |  Heinkel He 111 H2  |  Polikarpov I-17  |  Curtiss P-40  |   Mitsubishi A6M5  |  Nakajima A4N  |  Messerschmidt Bf 109 B  |  Messerschmidt Bf 109 E  |  Polikarpov I-16 (e.)  |  Fairey Fantome  |  Me 410 Hornisse

i get rid of planes all the time, but not premiums

sometimes i'm just tired of looking at their ugly mugs, but mostly because i cannot currently fly them well to justify keeping them hanging around

i've sometimes bought them back as my skills advanced... hey, they're still sitting in the tree, still researched, ready to get back in the air

i'm probably averaging 50/50 that i would now be good enough to fly them properly... maybe less than 50%, if i'm being honest

I can't fly ANYTHING well. I'm basically still a potato, and events like these bring all the gods down, and they just smack my very sorry hiney into oblivion, time after time.

I may just give up on the game. Between my own lack of skills, difficult-to-set-up-right hardware, me having mostly meh/very high skill floor planes, and ABSOLUTE FREAKING LEGENDS COMING OUT OF THE WOODWORK, I'M JUST SCREWED. HOPELESSLY SCREWED.

Awww, is someone feeling bad about themselves?  Does someone need some affirmation?

Without potatoes, we would not have french fries (pomme frites), hash browns, latkes, Loaded Potato Skins©, potato soup, etc., etc. etc.

I myself am a long term potato.  I cling to my inner potatoness and every day cultivate my potato garden with potato play.

Buck up little buckaroo!  Or should I say potatoroo?

Being a potato is one thing.  Whining about people being good in chat is another.

When I see a veteran in-game, I anticipate a good fight, and start thinking about how I'm going to get the best of him.  Whining in chat or in the forums is the furthest thing from my mind.

Yow!  Sit back.  Have a margarita.  Enjoy the breeze.  Then get in a fun biplane and just work on your controls set up and game fundamentals.  Stop worrying about grinds and upgrades and stuff and just enjoy some flying.
