YW, I come across little vids like this (all the time, because I'm a nerd) and sometimes one is neat enough to get me to post it here. I have always thought the Cobra was a -beautiful- plane in the looks department and I won't lie.. I kinda love my P-39N-1 when it's not being a jerk on accuracy. I keep debating picking up the Q but it -looks- worse so it's scared me off.

I've got the N and the Q and the only difference is that the N has extra 4x7.62mm ... while the Q has a tiny bit more health and speed.

Never bothered to get the XFL-1, it has less of everything.

Also got the Ki-88 which is quite similar (more alt, less maneuverability). Still don't like the big-gun Yaks ...

A Low Alt TurnFighter with the firepower of a P-38.
Whats not to love?

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is much like my WinRate. Hit or Miss.
Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.

Great video. It looks like mine with those teeth, but mine has a excellent stereo, shag rug and a lava lamp.

Definitely interesting video & plane.

I'm curious about some of the photos showing a significantly longer barrel in the nose, anyone know about that? Is it a 20mm or something?

Regarding CoG issues a Soviet ace went to US & demonstrated it to them, if I recall something to do with an extra fuel tank &/or depleted ammo, possibly exacerbated by Soviets tending to fly with fewer guns/ammo in the first place.

Soviets solved it by flying with that tank empty/using it first.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

Great video!

Due to my ignorance, I was surprised to see disk brakes on it.

Like every other “marginal” aircraft the P-39 was only a engine change away from being an outstanding fighter...there is like only one plane the Allison family of engines did well in, and that was the P-38 family.

That's the fault of the USAAC rather than the engine itself.  If you remove the supercharger (which is external to the engine), it might be blasphemy but I'd take the Allison over the Merlin.  The USAAC are the ones who forbade development of a decent two stage S/C for the Allison.  The Allison birds didn't need a different engine, they just needed a two speed supercharger which the bomber mafia forbade.
