Good morning Pilots,

Easy question, maybe not so easy answer :) What is your favorite plane to fly per tier, from I to X?

I have played as Japan since day 1, and venture out from there.  I have most aircraft unlocked to tier VII; Germany GA's to IX; UK heavy fighters to X; and all of Japan -- so, my choices at IX and X are based on limited experience.  If Japan heavy fighters ever go to X (such as to counter USA bombers to X), I'll stick with it.

Good morning Pilots,

Easy question, maybe not so easy answer :) What is your favorite plane to fly per tier, from I to X?

  • Tier I - a joke tier imho, but I kept the I-5 just for shiggles. So I guess it's my 'favorite'
  • Tier II - P-23 hands down. They're all kinda similar down here but I like the balance of this particular plane. Plus my son loves the paint scheme I have on it so there's that.
  • Tier III - I-16 (e.). Its such a good, well rounded beast. Great firepower, excellent maneuverability, some inconsequential rockets. If I'm looking to club, here's my plane.
  • Tier IV - Ok now I have to start thinking. Not because Tier IV is great but because there are a lot of fun yet unremarkable planes at this tier. And although I love the Bf 109 B, I'd still choose the Bf 110 C-6. Cuz oh baby that cannon.
  • Tier V - Another cluster tier. I choose the Hurricane II barely over the P-38F and AD 10C2. All are great but the Hurricane II has a bit of everything besides speed.
  • Tier VI - All the planes at this tier I mostly loved or hated. Not a lot in the middle. Love the Ki-102, Me 410, P-38J, F4U-1, Tornado, XP-55, P-39N-1, Yak-1M, and the Spitfire V DB605. Hate the I-210, Bf 109 F, Fw 190 A-5. So much to like about this tier but if I had to choose just one I'd say the Spitfire DB605. What's not to love about a British fighter mixed with German altitude performance?
  • Tier VII - Kind of a meh tier. There are some strong planes tho. The Fw 190 D was a joy once fully upgraded, as was the F4U-4. But my choice is the A7M. Even tho it can be a pain on a large map (low speed) I still love this plane. Especially when a diving heavy thinks I'm not paying attention and I flip the script on them. The gun power means I can typically kill whatever tries to get me.
  • Tier VIII - This will be tough. I mean REALLY tough. There's not a lot that is bad at this tier. A lot are good, but only a few are great.  The P-80A Shooting Star surprises a lot of people and can do it all. The BV P.203 is already a great plane, let's see tho after the player-base gets used to it. Pre-nerf Pancake would have been in the running but now it's meh. The BV P.210 is great of course. However my pick is the XP-58 Chain Lightning because it can simply dominate. If I'm having a bad day, the XP-58 will turn it around for me.
  • Tier IX - Another great tier. Honestly can't say I dislike anything I've played at tier IX. I mean really. It came down to a tossup between the Yak-19 and the F2H Banshee. I gotta give it to the F2H tho. When I'm in the F2H I feel like we always have a chance to win unless I mess something up. I can't say that about every plane at every tier but I can say that about the Banshee.
  • Tier X - unfortunately some disappointing planes (I'm looking at you Swift and XP-90) but otherwise some real gems here. For me, it's gotta be the F-86A Sabre though. What makes this plane so great is it can determine the win conditions of a dog fight. Its SO fast it will out pace what it needs to get away from or stick with a heavy that's trying to get away. Also, it's surprisingly maneuverable and it will keep with most turning planes out there in a pinch. It can go as high as it needs to and no one will escape it if I don't want them to. It can really do it all. Yes, the guns are anemic but I can make that work. Hell, I can "death by a thousand papercuts" the enemy any time. I think that's some of the charm actually because I'm sure some people disregard the Sabre attacking them, think its guns are too weak to worry about. Until it's too late mwah ha ha ha!

The Japanese lines have been hit or miss for me. Some real gems but some real stinkers too. The A6's were pretty good but none of the true 'Zeros' were better than a Spitfire, until Tier VII. The heavies are all good though it seems. And I can't wait to but the J7W2 when I get home :)

1: Umm, nothing... don't fly this tier.

2:   -See above-

3: I-15bis DM / Blenny bomber.

4: Don't really fly 4s... 109B perhaps, just because of the awesome Leopard paint.

5: MiG-3 ... hands down one of my absolute favorite planes.

6: Don't really fly 6's... got rid of the Tornado because my mod for it stopped working, and the Tempest fills it's role / satisfies my UK MR itch. The 410 and Ki-102 are fun, I suppose.

7: J4M, baby... fear the Sushi Roll!

8: XP-58, Tempest, prolly another one or two that slip my mind.

9: Don't fly 9s much... Starfire or 1099 B2, I guess.

10: Only own one... so, Sabre by default.

2.0.5. completely arrested my desire to progress ANY tech tree lines, and, as a result, many planes that I would like to have in my hangar will never be acquired...

Who in their right mind wants to try to grind a stock plane against specialized try-hard flights?

I don't want to hurt you... I just want to kill you!

Any Tier. Heavy Fighters.

Why? Because Heavy fighters.

Have you not SEEN the P-38?  Its so pretty.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is much like my WinRate. Hit or Miss.
Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.

Yes, it's haughty and its arrogant but you're a battleship with 16 inch guns and Britannia Rules the Waves.  Maybe a bit of arrogance in this case is appropriate.

T1 pass

T2 pass

T3 Skua its kinda awful, pretty ugly but so very British, my first or 2nd T3, most flown plane still & yet somehow the crew is still only 7pt.

T4 Hurricane I is my go-to, speed ok, agility ok, 8* mgs and fast reloading bombs (plus I have nice special cammo).

T5 lots of options here, probably P-40 but it doesn't quite feel right since I re-purchased it & put new pilot in, I think is hit by the Equipment rework, actually re-purchased MiG-3 yesterday & it is still pretty amazing.

T6 also lots of options & lots I've kept in hangar, probably gonna go with La-5 as actual favourite, exemplifies the happy medium of the line.

T7 is easy I-220 fast, altitude 4*20mm & without a big agility penalty what a great plane & gorgeous rackish looks.

T8 I want it to be Tempest but honestly I'm not having nearly as much fun with it as I'd wanted, always seems to be struggling for speed & hits while La-9 feels more like how I'd expected Tempest to be -> remains my go-to T8.

T9 gonna probably go with MiG-9, I'm really quite enjoying it which bodes well for MiG-15 bis. I haven't run into a T9 keeper yet. Yak-19 was unexpectedly good as is FJ-1 & I kinda enjoyed La-160.

T10 I've only got 3 so far so out of La-15, Yak-30 & Swift La-15 wins pretty easy.

Tier 1: Arado Ar-65

It was the first plane I ever got 24000 points in... on my first flight in it and only my tenth battle in World of Warplanes ever. I haven't flown it for over a year now but it will always retain a special place in my heart.

Tier 2: Arado Ar-67

I like this plane a lot - its extremely maneuverable with decent firepower. I actually Specialized it despite not actually flying it anymore - in case I need to tryhard at tier 2 for whatever reason. Probably hunting a sealclubber. In fact this plane makes my list mostly because it was my ride when I beat the crap out of a certain abusive sealclubbing waffle lover three games straight.

Tier 3: CAC Wirraway

I don't like Ground Attacks in general but the Wirraway is an honorable exception. Its got surprisingly good speed and maneuverability for a ground attack of its tier and while it only has two machine-guns, its bombs reload sufficiently quickly to take out targets without too much hassle. And it can dogfight remarkably well. Its probably that last part I like best.

Tier 4: Messerschmitt Bf109B

The Bertha is my tier 4 mount of choice, edging out the Hienkel He-111 H-2, mostly because I don't do bombers well. The Bf109B is arguably the most powerful airplane at tier 4 with phenomenal altitude performance, superb energy retention, formidable firepower and decent maneuverability into the bargain. Its only weakness is that it can be matched against tier 5s. If you run into a Specialist Spitfire I in this thing, nothing can save you.

Tier 5: Messerschmitt Bf109E

The Emil is what I pull out when the Spitfire spam gets too much or if there's a P-38F bothering me. The Emil is, IMO, the most powerful all-round airplane at tier 5 (others might give this honor to the P-38F, but I'm not much of a heavy pilot). It is certainly the most powerful fighter at tier 5. While the Spitfire I is a lot more newbie-friendly, the 109E simply gives an experienced pilot more options to deal with threats. It remains highly competitive even in tier 6 matchups.

Tier 6: Focke Wulf Fw190 A-5

The A-5 is my plane of choice in this game. The firepower of a heavy mated with the agility (if not the maneuverability) of a light and a boatload of boost to boot, the A-5 is a sledgehammer of a plane that can be surprisingly nasty in a fight. It has its weaknesses but once you learn to deal with them (or you have a competent team to cover you), the A-5 is an airplane-shredder

Tier 7: Focke Wulf Fw190D

This was actually a close decision between the Hornet, the I-220 and the Dora. In the end though, I like the Dora for much the same reasons I like the A-5: hits like a truck, easy to bring its guns to bear, loads of boost and a good deal of flexibility in a fight.

Tier 8: Dornier Do-335 A-1 Pfeil

The first and only Premium airplane to make this list, the Pfeil is an excellent multirole disguised as a heavy - four 250kg bombs give it as much strike power as the tier 9 German GAA on an airplane that can cruise at over 700kph, at 2000m and a dive speed of 1000kph. Combined with a surprisingly good rate of roll which, like the 190s, allows it to keep its guns on target a lot easier than most other heavies and you have a plane that can hard carry like a champ. And god help you if there's a flight of two of these on a two-Plant map.

Tier 9: Blohm und Voss B.V P.212.03

The BVP212.03 accelerates like greased lightning and has ridiculous energy retention. Its a plane that barely slows down no matter how hard you throw it about and accelerates like a bat out of hell. Decent maneuverability, fantastic rate of roll, great firepower and a nasty surprise package of 24 R4Ms make this plane an excellent tier 9 dogfighter. The P.1092 gets all the glory, but the 212.03 is an excellent contender for the crown... and people still think they can charge at you head on so...

Tier 10: Hawker Hunter

The newest addition to this list, the Hawker Hunter is a true multirole - mind-blowing firepower, devastating ordnance, good speed, decent maneuverability, superb handling, good boost and excellent flight characteristics (also altitude being just a suggestion) make this truly king of the hill where tier X airplanes are concerned. Need something done? Look no further than the plane that can cap missile bases and mining plants while also hunting bombers and ground attackers and snapping up the occasional unwary fighter. This thing is a monster and I look forward to Specializing it.

Need something done? Look no further than the plane that can cap missile bases and mining plants while also hunting bombers and ground attackers and snapping up the occasional unwary fighter. This thing is a monster and I look forward to Specializing it.

I think most peoples first 2 or 3 tiers is a dust collector with memories. I like the stories of yours.

It really was a tossup between the Bf109B and what I chose for tier IV. The Bertha taught me how to play a non-turn style of fighter game play. A great choice.

How did I forget about the Bf109E?! a good choice too but I'd still take a Hurricane over it for carry ability. Not in a 1-on-1 tho, E wins that hands down.

I absolutely could not have been more disappointed by the A5. I really enjoyed tiers IV and V and i LOVE the Fw 190 D but the tier VI left me wanting more than it left me happy.

I haven't gotten the I220 yet but I've heard nothing but glowing reviews. But I can't argue wth your Dora choice, a stellar bird for sure.

I've seen enough other people carry with the Do 335 that I know its a great choice :)

Tier IX and X are two planes I'm working on (and excited about), glad you love them!

I wasn't as stressed out about the Specialization impact as some others were to be honest. I kinda like that I might have to change my tact even if battling the same plane flown by two different pilots. I CAN say tho that I do NOT like the calibration process at all! I just enhance and don't even attempt to calibrate.
