I've wondered if you got reported if stuff like that would still get you a ban for "insult/provocation"

Like.. perhaps Blindfold might give us a clarification of rules on this sort of banter.

To be fair, there's some really toxic individuals who needed to be shut up but that could have been solved by allowing naming and shaming of bad behaviour and actually reviewing and acting upon the most toxic behaviour. When the pendulum swings it swings too far.

absolutely this^^... i'm always shocked to see first-hand what ridiculous bile that immature brats are typing, and it's always aimed at excellent pilots like our friend SFMY

whatever do you think that actually accomplishes... aside from temporarily releasing the dark demons deep down inside you?

you would never say anything like that to him in person, you keyboard cowards

so, if we can't name and shame here, can we report it via Discord?    it's actually in the name of the app itself, so...

screenshot only, so we can see if it's been altered?    or upload the game replay, so that we all can see the context?

BF, help me think about unintended consequences...   publicly game-banning extremely toxic individuals could reduce WG income slightly

but... could it help retain more new folks?        and could it show prospective players that WG puts human decency over short term financial gain?

either way, public executions were extremely popular exhibitions for thousands of years, and showed everyone what happens if you get caught flaunting behavioral norms

post the azzhole's most hateful chats while holding an elaborate online excommunication ceremony...  you'll get both tons of great gaming press, and new players

those "people" could never safely use that nick in any game again in the future, thanks to google

think about it, BF...   talk to your co-workers, present it to your upper management, and we'll support you completely, in return

edit:    how about randomly picking forum members for a jury of peers, if management doesn't want to be the bad guy...  we'll make the hard decisions

you're right, jury trials are ridiculously easy to manipulate by lawyers            so... it should be more like a firing squad, maybe?

Just having been involved with gaming communities, clans and forum moderation for well long enough to know, you will never get impartial and competent judgment let alone agreement. While there may be folks that could fit the bill, they are the ones you do not hear from or do not participate in this realm.

There is a laid out set of rules to follow and those already who are supposed to enforce said rules. Use the methods in place already, no need to recreate a KKK, or similar.

edit: I don't mean to say that the methods in place may not be the best or completely fair, just if changes are needed, change what is in place, don't add to the mess....

all righty, probably just an overreaction on my part... but jeez

just like you and me, all trial jurors are deeply flawed individually

but when they work collectively, it's a different story       usually

To the first ? :

You should know as well as I that there are "cliques" most prominently, here in the forums. Trickle down the clans, buddies....etc. These loyalties and relationships can not be moderated. IMO, would create a more divisive community. In my experience from doling out authority on forums, the best folk, with the best intentions, have their moments and can invoke havoc quite quickly. I include myself in that reference.

Jury's are selected, chosen and rejected by process. You stated "Random". I simply do not believe there would be a viable method to select an impartial and or competent "Jury" in this or any other forum. Once again I refer to most who have no reason to care about this issue, is those who do not post or simply do not participate in this realm or this game. And why would that be, because they ignore, use the process in place, or simply handle it in their own non defensive/confrontational manner IE: How many pilots names do you see in game but never see on the forum? I see many more pilot names NOT recognizing from the forum.

trikke, you and I are now having a "confrontation" which I feel and appreciate that it is now a "debate" and it is civil!

The toxicity won't be fixed by stopping people swearing which is the problem with the automated ban machine.

People say plenty of really nasty, uncouth, or uncalled-for things that pass the bot sniff test.

Fix Ignore to actually work. Half the time I put someone toxic on ignore and I can still see their chats all game every game. It's extremely frustrating to not be able to get away from the smug superiority complexes of some people or the adversarial attempts to goad. The forums are similar in that regard. The "ignore" function only halfway works.

I'd kill for a fixed ignore list over any sort of "ban" system.
Opinions are like certain body parts. Everyone has them and most of the time they stink.

i see your points, and bow to your experience with game forums       i agree... clans and long time friends would certainly lead to jury problems, i never thought of that

this is my second online game ever...  my first was WoT, so now you see why i believe this forum is like heaven, in comparison

WG should just own it and start expelling bad actors that cross the line...  if that line has been previously agreed to, by every player somehow

again, i have no previous experience...  have other games publicly expelled unruly, contentious individuals?   publicly, not just behind the scenes

that's the key to grabbing the attention of game reviewers and influencers...  being the first to do something audacious like this

across the world, but primarily in the west and for the "general age group" of WW2 flight games...  there's a desire for civility, after watching what happens in other titles

there's going to be a trickle, then a firehose of exasperated mature gamers that are so tired of childish venom        and most well, some of them will bring fat checkbooks

and...  it's a win-win for everyone involved          and would only require more CMs, not more coders         what could possibly be cheaper, with the biggest impact?

WG, trial it first on the NA server, please                 let us help you

I've been verbally abused in WoT and maybe twice in WoWs, but I have not noticed anyone attack me in WoWp. It makes little sense for anyone to do it; the losses are mostly caused by the bots anyway. The humans are usually doing their best.

Favorite planes:

the problems lie not with the serial abuser...

it's not within this community's job description to:

teach civility

educate the ignorant

diagnose and treat anger issues

.

why should you expect the problem to be solved here

.

to ever stand a chance at getting this...

well, this ever surfacing thread narrative to stop appearing in the forums there are things we need to do:

... first you'd have to identify if and what the problem is

.

.

I believe much of this is overblown by the abused victim

if you can be offended by some fool with a keyboard and internet,

well then I see the problem right there...

.

next, use the tools already available:

chat filter, member blocking and most important...

grow a pair and don't allow some zit faced idiots to control your thoughts

good god man...

.

I hope this helps

good hunting

:)

if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

your first sentence "the problem doesn't lie with with the serial abuser" cannot be what you truly believe in your heart, brother

the problem starts and ends with the serial abuser

we'll agree to disagree

just like vipers bite and kill,

the snake is NOT the problem

.

the snake is the snake

if you are willing to get bitten by a snake

you are the problem

we as a consortium are not going to rid Ireland of snakes

.

if you go for a walk in the woods (Play the game)

.

wear your snake chaps (grow a pair)

carry anti venom (be self assured not manipulated)

don't allow snakes into your home (use game tools like chat filter and member blocking)

.

and if all this doesn't work...

I hate to say this but,

then, you are the problem

it's not like your family is being threatened by terrorist

it's your ego...

good god man

.

.

you should unplug the internet if you can't handle the internet

you should live in a land of censorship if you can't handle free speech

so the choices are up to you...

WG has filters and member blocking

you have control of your emotions and mind (we hope)

you should deal with change and not feel it's other's duty to change for you

.

these infrequent bits of silly insults are not a big deal... unless you make it one

this sort of "toxic and insulting" banter is not worthy of the time it takes to bring it up

the words toxic and insulting in themselves are proof people overreact to typed words

be happy

:)

so... why do you think that WG developed a ban for curse words?

btw, are there any other games that have curse bans, or is it just WG?

answer:

I'd say because there are idiots that threaten other players and nonstop abuse game chat,

a standard set of common vulgar words should be banned... as in... just not show up when sent

I think the game claims a teen 13 rating

btw, are there any other games that have curse bans, or is it just WG?

answer:

well, I've tried to string a fiery set of vulgar curse words in candy crush...

but sadly I was playing offline and ended up emailing my mother in law by accident
