What is old is new again; I’ve returned after a year off... there were a few youtubers I follow that’ve made me miss the game enough to boot it back up.

Coming at it, fresh-faced: it’s still fun - feel like the flight characteristics have changed a little, and the specialization/equipment overhaul... that is going to take a while to get to the bottom of! Still, looking forward to settling in over the next month, and see where I go from there... a few takeaways from my first night back, COMPLETELY unsure as of yet what my new doctrine for equipment’s going to be, or if I need to re-skill:

ME-262: Hello, old friend. As beautiful, tempermental & untouchable as always; making the most of that one pass remains the greatest challenge. Think perhaps I might drop marksman 1&2 for better flight characteristics. There was one game where I went up against a specialist 262, and the difference in speed was astonishing. Feels even better than it did a year ago; freely alternating between slashes through furballs & quick climbs to eat a stray RB-17 was satisfying. I’m guessing bombers took a hit in the last few patches?

Attacker: Thank you for reminding me why I took this line. This was my standout plane of the night; played it as a horizontal energy fighter, and it felt damn good. Maybe I want to capitalize further on the boost?

XP-72: I was not ready for this; I remember having spent a lot of time sussing out how to leverage this beast... and it has yet to come back intuitively!! Yeesh.

My joystick: oh, there’s a bug, is there? Apologies to the teammates I abandoned, those times I was forced to dive in to a hillside in the hopes of respawning with control.

'felt damn good'  Caution, they have ramped up chat bans and forum bans to ridiculous levels.  Conspiracy theorists note that this new found controversy comes at the same time players are up in arms over all the bugs.  But it probably has nothing to do with it?

If you want success with the 262, I wouldn't do that.  It is already about the fastest aircraft at T8.  Making it faster is fine, but since you already have little time to get rounds on target, you have to maximize that part of your game.  I tried running a max engine build, and I could fly away from everything, always.  But I had trouble actually shooting anything down.  So, I went away from engine guru 1 + 2 and back to marksman 1 + 2.  I also specialized it to gibe it an agility build.  Now I can turn fast enough to put those rounds on target.  Yes, I don't gain too much speed, but I do get the ability to melt GAA and bombers really fast, and snapshot plenty of other aircraft to death inbetween.  Having the ultimate sight and gas operated action on the guns also helps.  With this plane, anything you do to help get those rounds on target is worthwhile.  If you're good enough, the other humans will chase you.  Which takes them out of the game entirely.

Thanks for sharing your insight.

Helps me to realize how the game a progressed and yet flopped in other areas.

My status is "Senior Airman". Is that because I'm old? :sceptic:

Spending some time away gave me an appreciation for what this game is & does. Yeah, it’s wonky at times... but there is a particular itch it scratches. ...And while I was initially verrrry skeptical of the new equipment/specialization system, after doing a bunch of research, I’m actually pretty excited to get back in the skies after this weekend (away from home at the moment), and see what I can play around with - from quirky outliers like my Fantome, to stalwarts like my 262, and the more deliberate choices like the thunderbolt line. In theory, the whole idea of “choose your strength, choose your weakness” that the new gear represents is pretty appealing to me, now that I’ve looked it over.... a more interesting series of choices beyond the static equipment of old & the straight skill grind.

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

Ahhhh, DANG. I would have loved to have been a part of that, would have been a great way to really dive back in - but I won’t be back in-game until monday night!! Hopefully I’ll be around for later events.
