Thanks for the welcome, tips, and advice.
Last night, my flight of Goldfinch's (my buddy and I are learning together) got to the specialist rank.
On our 2nd and 3rd day of playing..... we had a games like this. 12 kills EACH, rest of the team 4 total kills. Enemy team....1 TOTAL kill.
Now, I have been called a cheater, cussed out in chat, sent derogatory messages in private chat and rammed every game.
I'm just playing the vanilla client. No mods, nothing. Only my Goldfinch is "kitted" out. I don't even know how many battles I have (40?)
I guess I'll just stick to world of tanks. No sense in having multiple games where toxic people message you.

Welcome back Laugh_at_U and sorry you're not going to stick around.
Calling any game more toxic than WOT's is a new one on me. In my experience one of the reasons players migrate out of WOTs is the huge amount of salt the players there can throw your way. In addition, I've found less salt here than in WOW's as well.
There are always going to be idiots in any game so that just sort of comes with the territory of playing with other humans. What you really have to watch out for is when the bots begin to tell you nasty things.
Version 2.0 added a number of successful features found in some of their other titles. The most noticeable is the conquest mode which is taken from WOWS. This forces players into certain channels and requires them to do something beyond simply dog fighting and blowing up whatever is out there. What you blow up and where you do it now begins to matter more.
I actually thing aiming in this version is a bit harder than was the case in 1.9 and earlier. You now have a sight rather than the expanding shrinking red circle which makes it more realistic and a bit more difficult to use. But if you learn to compensate for the red plane's movement and shoot where you think it's going to be rather than where it is, it's not that hard to pick up.
Another new feature is the ability to take over the rear gunner's position which makes planes armed with reward facing guns more viable and effective. The introduction of bombers has also added an additional layer of game play that wasn't present before.
The only game of WG's stable that goes back as far as WWI is World of Warships. The earliest ships in that game were first constructed prior to WWI and WWI ships are represented in that game very well.
In contrast, WOT and WOWP's essentially pick up with vehicles in service from around the 1920's on wards. It would be interesting to have them included in the game somehow but even the T1 planes currently in the game would shred their earlier counterparts pretty effectively. It would be interesting but I don't see WG going that direction.
