So with the event this weekend, I decided to spend some time on the Russian MiG line.    I've had the MiG-3 for a while, and it's spec'd.  I do have a sub 50% w/r in it (before anyone asks how I can get that low in the MiG-3, have you *seen* me fly?  There are times I resemble a Mr Potato Head from wish.com).   I had bought the I-210 sometime back (during one of the 50% off sales), bought had not flown it. 

 

Until last night.

 

Whooo-boy.   That was an experience.....I wound up going 3-6.   I think the challenge for me in the I-210 is mainly the guns - 2 23mm sound like "put holes in planes", but for some reason they seem anemic to me, and they definitely overheat quickly.   I did get better towards the end of the night, and even pulled a Grade II w/ 16 kills in a close loss.  I also had a couple of stinkers where I took 7th place.

 

My plan is to grind enough XP to research the next plane (the I-220?) and purchase it.   Depending on time remaining, I may attempt to grind enough of the I-220 to purchase the Tier 8 plane, which would make it my first T8 tech tree (otherwise it'll probably be the F2G as I'm about to move into the F4U-4).   I don't think the I-210 is going to be in my list of favorites though.....

I really tried to like the I210. I thought it was something I was doing. Nope. Those things are nerf guns or something. Sound good, overheat fast, and don't do squat. So happy it's gone now. I 220 MUCH better.

 

I just finished getting the F4U4 all upgraded. It is just a comfortable plane to fly. Watch the trigger and it can really crank out some suprisingly good games.

 I210 is better with the stock MGs, I think. You actually lose dps AND sustain switching to the cannons. Plus, the MGs are more likely to start fires, which helps with the anemic damage output, as well. But yeah, it's an utter junkpile of a plane. Thankfully the I-220 looks like a night-and-day difference right out of the box.

Hmmm....I never flew it with the machine guns.   I had already researched the cannons (which are 20mm, not 23mm....not sure why I thought they were 23s), so I mounted them before my first flight.  I'll try mounting the machine guns tomorrow and see if I like it better.

 

Went 3-2 tonight, improving my overall w/r in the dang thing to 42%.   Had three decent battles, and then 2 miserable battles (6th and 7th place).  The last three battles were against a flighted pair from SF, though my team won the last one (I was flighted for the last 3 in the I-210).

 

Then me and my flight mate switched to T8, me in my P-80A.   First game we lost against a pair of red bomber drivers (B-32 and Ju 288 C).   I think the 288 C had high point gunners, because he was flying the dern thing like a heavy.  The B-32 was easier to take down then the 288 C, which surprised me.

 

I think I'll settle for researching the I-220 and getting it for half off - I'm already tired of the MiG line after 14 battles in the I-210.

That's how I ran it in 1.x.  One of the few planes where the upgraded armament was worse imo.  Just takes a long time to shoot down anything. :trollface:

Taking helmsman's and bronze's suggestion, I put the 3 MGs back on the I-210....wow, definitely makes the plane more effective.  I even pulled a Winged Legend and Akamatsu in one of my games tonight (token medals are still a rarity for me, more than one in a single game even rarer).   I definitely had favorable RNG tonight, and I was flighted for 4 of my 6 battles, and that always seems to help me.   I went 5-1 tonight, raising my win rate to 55% (11-9) and my kill ratio up to 3.9 (8.3 in the 6 battler tonight).

 

Please tell me I can keep the MGs when the I-210 is specialized......

For the weekend event I got the Mig 3 off the tech tree. It's not nearly as flexible as the I-16  or  I-17 but I.m grinding away on it. It does climb great and handles altitude well.  I don.t think I.m going to make the 200 kills the mission wants but it's something to work toward. 

I got the Vampire finally. Another hot dog plane I have to catch up to. File it away with the XP 54 and Ho 229.

i got the Vamp long ago when it first came available      maybe 2 years?      prob not      

 

i've got 25 battles in it, none were memorable      as i do, i stripped it and forgot about it      it's comfortable in it's coffin      RIP

 

i bought it thinking it was a T8 turny plane      but today, after watching Senator run the table in his, we talked

 

it is not that turny       quit thinking you're going to outturn everything        lots of T8 LFs match it or beat it         T7s and even T9s beat it

 

good guns and it climbs / dives well for it's tier        fast-ish     for it's tier       i just assumed i couldn't fly an OP plane because i'm not good enough

 

i didn't even consider actually checking the stats book and flying it correctly      because i'm lazy

I take out the Vamp every once in a while. I just don't fly it right and I pretty much stripped out the pilot/gear for other things. I just like the p80 a whole lot better. It is gathering dust for now. Might revisit at some later time.

I spent the better part of a day ginding out victories in the OP Swoose Goose trying to nab a Marseilles for the B-29. 

And yet i was always 0ne or two planes shy ... 
Took a break walked a way went to bed. 
Got up the next day poked around the forums and had a cup of coffee. And decided that in needed a break from being a try hard. 

hopped into the I-17 as its the first plane to appear in my hanger . 
One sortie later  ... Ended up having a 21k game  on a triple xp day no less.  Of course all the usual suspects showed up.
Flying start, Subjugator, Effective fire, Expert pilot, Guardian, Conqueror, Flying Guardian, Flying Paladin, Hero of the Sky, Winged Legend, Akamatsu, Ace,

aaaand  that Marseille Medal that had been evading me for the better part of a week!

Ground out the Bomber with a week to spare! 


All this talk about how OP the Goose is and no one is complaining about the I-17.

Speaking of OP that B-29 is  an odd duck to say the least.  My very first flight was against Zegfried in his Ju 288 C.  and some how i managed to potato my way into a draw. 
THe bomber is a bit of a struggle bus for me at the moment.  Efficient Carpet bombing is not a skill i have learned yet..

Worked on the F4u4, researched and bought the F2G. Now it's back to bombers to rebuild the silver supply!

I had a VERY good day today.

 

Warm-up game in the P-36, 19 kills, Marseille, Akimatsu, Legend.  Should have been an Ace, had I stuck around the center instead of chasing a GAA.

 

Several games in the J 21 RB to reach Spec, two more to test it out, second game was 16.5 K+ 4 Epic Medals.

 

Several games in the Swoose, usual excellent results.  (bent bird is bent. . . .)

 

Bounced around Period 3 Heavies, Pancake, Banshee, TwinStang, all good.  Was a day full of Winged Legends.

 

Some days, the Sun shines JUST RIGHT on one's posterior, and today was one of those days.  I'm sure RNG will have its revenge at some point soon.  :D

Flew the MiG-9 until my eyeballs fell out.  Now it is specialized, and I own the MiG-15.  Time to work on the Yak LF line.  :)

Been working on the I220. I think I am on my 21st straight loss in this plane. Scores great, just really bad luck in teams. Going to take forever to go I250 at this rate.

Bad news.  The I-250 is OK at T8, but only OK.  The I-220 is a FANTASTIC T7 plane.  I am looking forward to going back and specializing it.  The I-250 I sold as soon as I got enough XP for the MiG-9.

 

Was.  Not.  Impressed.

 

But....  The MiG-9 is worth both the I-210 and the I-250. 

 

Back to the I-220.  It is a great plane at T7, but it is only OK at T8.  You are relegated to being a role player, instead of owning the skies.  And considering how often T7 finds itself bottom tier...

Yeah, I LIKE the 220, I just can't carry a game in it regardlessof how well I do. I do seem to run in to a LOT of T8's!
