Daily Ki-102.  The all-bot enemy team kicked my rear, and my bots only won by attrition.

Just doing some random stuff tonight, playing the Yak-7 for the first time, and flighting with my soon-to-be new clan for the first time as well:

Yak-7(first match in the thing, a win, top of the team, Grade V Multirole Fighter)

Yak-7(second match, not the best, but not the worst either)

Yak-7(third match, McCampbell Medal, Grade III Multirole Fighter, a win)

Yak-7(GW__S flight, a win, but had most of my kills stolen)

Pe-2 M-82(Flight. Good match, a win)

P-51A(Flight. Good match, a win)

A good night, and I’m feeling a little less burnt-out, thanks in no small part to my new very fun Yak-7, and the very chatty, very active GW__S  clan.

six battles this morning and I only remember snippets

mig-3 didn't feel fun today, for the first time.    SFMY cleaned house all morning, as usual

then we flew 410 / A-5 and won a squeaker against Evil Snowkiller and Kootenay

or maybe that was a different battle.    who knows

Romped in the Ki-102 for my daily crate progress battle.  Still only 2/3 of the XP for the Ki-93.  Another Kozhedub wasted when I'm not on that part of the Vampire mission yet.  Perhaps it was a mistake to not buy out of the 10x Flying Raider part of the mission, because I'm going to pay a lot more to bypass the 2x Kozhedub part and I've got about 3 Kozhedubs this month already.

Mostly played the Horten and Saab again tonight, but I finally got enough credits for the BV P.210! First tier 8, baby! The battle before I got it though, I decided to mix things up and take out my A6M5 Zero. I uh, I think I remember why I liked the Zero line so much now: Fighter 1st class, Winged Legend, Akamatsu's Medal, and a whole slew of others that I can't quite remember or identify off the top of my head.

Current Top of the Line:

USAAC/USAF/USN: P-51A Mustang, P-47B Thunderbolt, F4U-1 Corsair, P-38F Lightning, B-17D Flying Fortress  LW: Bf 109G, BV P.212.03, Bf 109Z, Ju 88P, Ju 88A
VVS: Yak-1, MiG-3, LaGG-3, Yak-7, Il-2 Shturmovik, Arkhangelsky Ar-2  IJAAS/IJNAS: Ki-61 Hien, A7M Reppu, Ki-45 Toryu

RAF/RNFAA: Supermarine Spitfire I, Hawker Hurricane II, Bristol Blenheim F  ROCAF: Curtiss Tomahawk IIb, Curtiss Hawk III  PEu: Caudron-Renault C.714, Saab J-21RB, Arsenal VB 10

More random, uncoordinated stuff:

(Was able to elite the Yak-7, while just checking in and not even playing)

Today’s session:

Fw-56 Stosser(a little mission grinding, and a little studying for my review of this plane, which will come at a later date. A flight)

Yak-7(good bottom tier match with a few familiar faces, a win)

Yak-7(ditto, top of the team, Grade IV Multirole Fighter. Got taken out once, after squall line by an allied potato player in a Spitfire DB-605 that rammed me when I was only on auto-health. Got my pilot in this plane to 100% finally after 6 battles.)

LaGG-3(fairly good loss)

B-32(decent match, a win, never died)

A good session, and I also outfitted the F2A-1 for play-testing probably tomorrow, and that review will probably be up some time on Sunday, as I will be quite busy both days, but Saturday more so. It might end up having to wait until Monday. Definitely love the Yak-7 though.

Well, my new approach of choosing planes to fulfill token missions first has seen me focus on planes & grinds that might have otherwise fallen back in the queue - over the last three days, these aircraft have gotten most of my attention, and all three pilots are ready to move on to the next in line. The question is, which first? Trawling for opinions, because opinions are fun!

F-84B - I loved the thunderbolts, and I loved what they became. Although I will profess that MG’s on a maneuvering fighter are hard to come back to after a lot of work with 20’s and 30’s. I *do* miss the relative speed advantage the earlier T-bolts enjoyed, and am happy to see that the only big change from the B to the F is a hefty jump in airspeed. The F84’s are excellent flex planes & force multipliers; they have what you need to lean on the scales in any situation, barring high-alt combat. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a specialist unlock JUST so I can slap an ordnance consumable on there; that extra kick on the rockets will make all the difference.

J7W1 - I didn’t click with this plane very often, but had a great extended run with it over the weekend. The opposite of the thunderbolt line in many ways, this plane excels at defense when you’ve got a central high-value cap to hold. Despite its status as a turny little deathstar that needs to take everything in a head-on, I found this lived or died based on (outside of the obvious “know what is coming in on you”) boost management. And keeping what alt you can. If you don’t have any boost to give you a sudden kick in a direction, this thing can end up just hanging in the air -a unique advantage in some cases, but a death sentence if there is more than one hostile gunning for you. It’s got a unique playstyle that seems pretty dependent on map layout to get full advantage, high-speed BnZ is its bane, and you can only shake your fist at the German bombers. Curious to see how the evolution to the jet engines of the J7W2 changes things. Feel it’s always going to be niche, but like that it’s niche.

Hornet - Oddly, what has kept me from rocketing up this line has been a wonder of how exactly my eventual Javelin will differ from my HG III... which is funny, because I love how different the line is sub-tier X from the Germans. I’ve thoroughly embraced the GA-level ordnance loadout, and excellence in the world of mid-alt bomber deletion. So honestly, I’m really excited about the 1056 for more of the same with a pig nose.

So the candidates are:
F-84f for the thrill of line completion & the eventual joys of specialization

J7W2 for quirky weirdness & whatever wonders a jet engine and the tier X cannons bring to the mix

1056 for that heavy-with-all-the-boom, tip of the spear cap-flipper playstyle that seemingly drops at tier X.

Grinding flight, feat. wylleEcoyote:

Mosquito(good bottom tier match, a win. Unlocked the Hornet)

P-51A(Top Tier A-game. A win, top of the team, Grade IV Fighter)

Pe-2 M-82(Match against bots, relatively inconsequential win)

Me-262(Mission grinding, meh defeat)

LaGG-3(Good top tier 6-player-per-team win with ClosedCoffin on our team, top of the team, Grade III Fighter)

A good session, I'm getting close to unlocking the La-5, and I finally unlocked the Hornet, but I am not sure whether to grind the credits for it, the Tornado, or the Bf-109 F first. Hmm...

After decorating my Tanksmas garage I switched to W0rplynz and started flying things I need the x3 XP most:

F4U-1 - I think I'll research the F7F first, since I like weird stuff and it'll be a change of pace.

Ki-94-II - Wee, got enough money to put Me 265 in da hangar...but I still need another 500k to outfit it.

Sea Hawk - PWNing the mining plant.

Ta 152 - Spent the first battle chasing down my nemesis, Me 262.  Researched wing-mounted 30's.

Yak-9U - Researched the airframe upgrade instead of the 45mm.

P-51D - Exhausted by the time I finally got a win.

Me 265 - After the break I took my new scooter out for its first few flights.  w00t!

A extra-long session, ruined by an amazing-at-the-game, but still not-particularly-helpful clanmate who insisted on going all James May on me and giving me a very long, complicated lecture about the way HE plays the game and also the way he thinks that I should, but really wouldn’t be practical or fun for me at all:

Ki-102(good top tier match against a somewhat inept specialist Ki-102, top of the team, McCampbell Medal, Grade II Heavy Fighter)

Unique Supplies Crate, 5000 FXP

FXP’d B-32’s top bombload, for some reason

B-32(first match with the upgraded bombload, and I despise it. It might just be confirmation bias, but the plane handles ickily with it, and feels a strange kind of “floaty” in ANY direction, going straight, climbing, diving, turning, or rolling. Anyways, the match was pretty awful, I was bottom tier, and two enemy players, the inept Ki-102 player from my Ki-102 match in his specialist Ki-93, which he is significantly better in, and a specialist Me-262, were all over me the entire match. We lost, no surprise there)

Me-262(Garbage victory against good players and bots that my flight mate had to carry. At one point, I kept getting accosted by this annoying specialist P-51H that could keep up with me, and because that plane is “strong”(read: OP) against same tier Heavy Fighters, I couldn’t out-altitude him EITHER(which is TOTALLY balanced. NOT. That plane needs to have significantly worse altitude performance), and he took me out, because there was NOTHING I could do to shake him. Reminds me of my own P-51A. I REALLY ought to play that plane more, but anyways. Only upside was that I got so much XP thanks to the 3X XP that I was able to unlock both the rocket motor and the bombs, leaving only the rockets left for me to grind for. I bought the rocket motor, leaving me broke, because I lost credits on this match, big-time, about 20,000 credits worth)

(Time-wasting James May-athon)

FINALLY gave up on the flight

Boomerang(good match. I DO love me this plane. I ought to pamper it more, much more play it, but grinding takes precedence always, and I am just kind of innately uncomfortable in light craft, which is the other reason why I don’t)

Yak-7(Useless bottom tier match. Only got 1 plane kill because of endless kill-stealing and the size of the map(it was Cold Peak). Okay damage though)

Yak-7(Match-making HEAVEN. Great top tier match on Scorching Sands, which is a MUCH smaller map. A win, top of the team, Rocketeer, Winged Legend, Lambert Medal, Grade III Multirole Fighter. I have decided to go with a durability build, which really proved its worth in this match)

An okay day, not super great, but it did have its good moments and that Yak-7 match at the end MORE than made up for the dumb James-May-athon.

Mostly doing Tanksmas battles tonight, mostly in my beloved AMX 40 Le Quac.  I didn't suck quite as much as I normally do.

F4U-1 - Researched the F7F, but it will be a long time before I have the credits for that.

Ta 152 - First outings with the 30mm cannons.  Predictably frustrating.

Ki-102(Great top tier match, a win, top of the team, Winged Legend, Grade III Heavy Fighter)

Yak-7(Solid top tier match, a win, Grade IV Multirole Fighter, 13,000 personal points)

After some Tanksmas action, again not sucking as much as usual, I flew a couple battles before server reset.

Me 265 - Squeaked a win.

Ki-102 - Felt out of sync, but got a McCampbell.  Enemy players blamed bots?

A lot of the Vampire, for credit grinding...

And the F-84F. I’m finally there! 3rd tier X, after all this time.

Daily crate battle:   Me 265 - did more ground target damage than a B-32, and lost, and it wasn't even close.

Bomber Day! Finally decided to get around to completing this XP-55 mission(350,000 ground target damage in any number of wins):

Ju-288C(unwinnable, but not garbage, match against White_Widow18)

Do-17Z(Messing around again a bit with the first bomber that I ever played. A win, and a little XP-55 Ascender mission progress)

Ju-288C(Great match, Widow flight, Lang Medal, Grade III Bomber)

Ju-288C(meh all-bot match, a win, still flighted)

Ju-288C(eh match against Honorabili, a loss, still flighted)

Ju-288C(great very close top tier match, a win, Grade III Bomber. Flight.)

Ju-288C(good match, a win, Grade III Bomber, finished this XP-55 Ascender mission at last. Last match of flight)

Next up: 5 turret kills in one match. Oof, perhaps I should finally get the turret equipment on my SE-100...

A few months go i bought those Valkyrie pilots when they appeared in the premium shop. They do not disappoint.
So of course i did a mad dash through their various lines in order to get the planes they are proficient in.
The Me 410; the P-47B and the IL-2.
But now months later i find myself thinking that maybe i missed out on stuff by not taking the planes i rushed through all the way to specialist.
So i decided to fix that. Starting with the Republic line.

Specialized the Peashooter at tier 2 in about a day of playing. It is aptly named.
but it is also kind of quick for its tier with a polished skin. nice for big maps.

Tried out the tier 3 P-35. its looses out on agility and it was unmemorable the first go around.
But this time im playing it more like a Thud.
My first battle to specialize was a monster game of 17k pp and 4 chevrons for a win. And got me 20% of the specialist mission completed in one battle.
Spoiler

If this keeps up i may hang on to it for token grinding and noob flights. Depends on how it does uptiered..

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is much like my WinRate. Hit or Miss.
Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.
