I finally scared up the credits to buy the Ki-84 and I'm wondering what it will be like?  I think I liked the Ki-43-I.  I HATED the Ki-43-II.  I'm OK with the Ki-61, but that's a different animal.  I've heard good noises about the Ki-84.  It looks like the first upgrade will be to replace 12.7s with 20s so I have all 20mm cannons and the aim will be consistent, and less temptation to overheat the guns.

Specialist planes:

SPAD S.510 :: P-40 :: MiG-3 :: A6M1 :: XP-44 :: Fw 190 A-5 :: Me 209 V4 :: Venom :: Caudron C.714 :: Ki-88 :: Wirraway :: Tomahawk IIb :: TsKB I-7 :: Ki-5

the 84 in my opinion is one of finest aircraft in the Japanese line.  Guns are awsome the air frame is upgraded from toliet paper to a beer can :izmena: youll enjoy it immensely.

The Ki-84 is an absolute beast, its guns hit like hammers, it flies high and turns on a dime. The 30s are a little tricky to use in a tight turning fight but you'll get the hang of them

The guys above are right on. The ki-84 is a beast. Decent speed and also decent altitude band, at least when compared to the Reppu. And, of course, it can out turn just about anything in its tier. The guns are just spectacular, but you have to be careful not to overheat them. As awesome as the ki-61 is, the 84 makes it look like a pile of junk. The ki-84 is one of the quickest turning and most fun to fly planes in the game. I've really liked the ki line so far, it keeps getting better as you go up the line. The tier 6, 7, and 8 planes are some of the best in the game and they're just pure fun.

I am relatively new to WoWp and once I realized that the Japanese lines fit my playing style, I targeted the Ki-84 Hayate as my main plane. I ground all the way up to it, and I don't regret it. My only complaint is the speed in some matches where I can't get to the battles and sectors quickly enough. I Specialized it a couple of months ago, emphasizing speed for both the plane and pilot. I then decided to add the Ki-94-II to my hangar just to have a Tier VIII. It is fine, but not quite the gem that the Tier VII is.

On the way up, I liked every plane except the K-43-II (every plane line has its dog), and I also kept the Ki-61.

61 and 84 are both keepers, but both have different flight/fight styles

SFMY said it best, and it's so true...  the 61 flies just like a 109e

or another 109, i can't remember      annoying

I think you mean the 109F, but comparing stats, it looks to be much more in line with the Spit V.

I like the 61, but I tire quickly of TnB.  I find that style of play very boring.  My goal is to get to the 162.  It's a Salamander, no matter what designation it wears.  German planes are more my thing anyway.  I enjoyed the 43, and the 61 has been more of the same.  I will grind through both 84s until I get the 162.  I have been spending a lot of quality time at T9 with the P.1092, and have sort of fallen in love with it.  But maybe the 162 at T9 can break the spell...

You should re-visit the 109Z then I think. You might find a mix of both. At least I did.

I just bought back the Ki-61 (sold it to afford the I-94-II). When I played it before, I was grinding up to the Ki-84. But, I only recently realized how comfortable I am flying the Ki-61. Luckily the cost is 50% off right now. I'm working on Specializing it these days. I also recruited a new pilot for it (the original is in the barracks waiting for me to buy the Ki-94-II again) and he needs skills.

The Salamander is a lot of fun, the guns are a bit weak in terms of raw dps but they are at least 30s so they rack up lots of crits and because you're not dealing with the mixed armament of the 84/94-II its easier to get them on target. You'll out turn pretty much anything at tier that isn't a Yak and you've got all the altitude performance you'll ever need.

Another nice Ki is the Ki-88 ... recently got it with 30% discount in March of Nations.

It's a lot like the P-39's, bit less maneuverable but good HP.

Took me a while to learn to handle the 37mm, but once you get it, you can quickly kill even heavies. Its ROF is much better than the Yaks, bit less than the P-39's.

Resurrecting this thread, I finally started using the Ki-84 a couple days ago. (perpetual credit crunch)  I'm doing very well with it.  I started with firefighter skill, and will add marksman as soon as I can.

I consider my Ki-84 to be my "personal plane." It's all permo-decorated, specialized, and has my best pilot. Recently, I was playing my newest plane, the I-220, which is sometimes described as OP, in the Scrimmage last weekend. I wasn't finding it particularly effective, so I switched to the Hayate and had a much better time. I was initially disappointed with its speed, but I have Engine Guru II for the pilot, and it is acceptable now.

nothing like flying the 84 to brighten my day

flies like it's glued to you, hits hard but easy to aim, has an incredibly garish stock skin that i doubled down with horrible nose-zart

i'm so happy

The stock camo doesn't look garish to me...?  I put the red-black zig-zag nose on it.  It doesn't seem to get the emblems I put on my other japanese planes.
