Just got the free Christmas Typhoon and was wondering how people are equipping them?  The stat bars say they are about equal in speed and maneuverability, so I'm not sure which direction to go.

Personally I would wait for them to be added to the tech tree. I have had little to no problem taking them out with my tornado and I think some have mentioned the modules pricing is outrageous at this point.

If I get one for free most likely I will fly it "asis" and take the hits just to build some xp in it until it is added.

Typhoon replaced my Tornado... but the real gem for me was the Tempest.

Dat boost~

I've set it up for a speed as you cannot get it good enough for maneveurability.

Polished skin + boost efficency increase. Avoiding fighters with exceptions of target of opportunity. Very good bomb/rocket reload speed so acting like fast GA.

I set mine up to maneuver, but with rockets.  :)

You can then out-turn everything except light fighters, but if you're down low, they are going to get you anyway, because you don't have enough boost (even with a speed build) to get away.  I use them as BnZ on LFs, and out-turn everything else.  The reload speed is fantastic, and you can solo almost anything short of a mining plant.

Ok, then we are agreed.

The build order is Gunsight + Light Weight Frame.
First aid kit + Trim tab adjusters + Improved Fuel Mix or Engine Re-starter + Universal Ammo
Followed by Polished Skin + Booster + Aerodynamic Pylons upon achieving Specialization.

What pilot skills are recommended?
It does really catch fire that much so Fire Fighting to keep that in check.
Maybe Cruise flight? It doesnt feel slow enough to really need it buuut this IS a speed build with a GA focus..
Which means that Engine Guru 1 (and 2 eventually) would be helpful in getting the most out of the increased Cruising speed
And for maintaining energy when you (inevitably) get caught up in a turn fight...
ADE by the time all your gear is Advanced or better. Because ADE.
BattleTested for when the gunsite is Advanced.
It protects your pilot AND reduces the speed penalty from catching a wing or tail critical.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is very hit or miss. Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.
