Nearly there ... took some time, but I'm doing this as a kind of "side-quest".

Need just a couple of the 50 sector captures, 3 x Grade I badges and the Gabreski (that one I will certainly skip).

I am on the "Ace " badge at the moment.

I've tried multiple times to get the XP-55 stage 1 part 4 mission, but somehow I never do. By my count, I should have recieved it twice. There is some technicality that i'm not meeting. The mission needs a little help box that defines the objective more clearly.

What is the text of that mission?

Edit: eg Aerial targets = any aircraft including neutral Air Defense Aircraft.

Enemy targets = only red bots & players, ADA are excluded.

almost every WG mission seems to have some kind of read-the-fine-print gotcha           sometimes it's awkwardly worded

or sometimes i just read into it what i wanted it to say

The mission lists all conditions: you need to destroy 5 enemy aircraft in a single battle when attacking sectors.

1. Enemy aircraft means that only bots and players from the opposing team count. ADA don't count.

2. "When attacking sectors" means that you need to destroy enemy aircraft when you are within the limits of a neutral (grey) or enemy (red) sector. It's tracked pretty easily - if you recieve Capture Points you've killed that target over a sector. Please mind that if a sector is locked (there's a locker sign over it for a couple of seconds meaning that you cannot re-capture this sector) kills don't count.

3. You need to destroy enemy aircraft over an enemy or neutral sector in a single battle. If you kill 2 in one battle and 3 in another battle, it won't count.

I did the XP-55 first too, and I wish I had gone Vampire first.

I did the XP-55 first and I don't regret it at all. For me it was a far easier grind to do and the plane is fantastic. The Vampire though, I'm finding myself spending tokens to complete the last mission on many stages. Sometimes even the second to the last. I'm not good at high tier games right now. Getting the Vampire first would probably cost me a lot more tokens, more frustration, and in the end I would not be able to use the plane as well. In another 2k battles maybe I will feel different.

I did the xp-55 first too, but don't regret it.
Most difficult mission was the marseille, all the others were very much doable.
Grinded it in 2 or 3 weeks.
And it's a really fun plane to fly.

I've started the vampire grind ever since i've finished the xp-55.
Lost track of the mission sometimes, lost even track of the game itself during long periods of non-playing.

But every time they give away a plane (like the Beau V last month), the required missions make me grind the vampire a bit further.
So after a year or two, i'm now at stage 7 on that one

the ironic thing about the Vamp missions, one of the last ones was to get 3 Hero of the Skies.  I tokened past that one, and then got 3 of them flying the Vampire in the next week. . . . .

For sure: Sods' law is very active in these things.

From recollection I blew about 250-350 Tokens skipping the harder missions of these, especially for Vampire.

Absolutely worth it to get the Vampire IMO.

Hint: start at the bottom of the Mission list & count your way up to see how many you can get away with skipping, not much point skipping through relatively easy ones only to find you have no tokens left and need like 80 tokens for the last couple of missions.
