This plane is the beginning IJN tech tree heavy fighter, available via a mission for 5 tokens. My initial impression, after slogging through the missions, is that it's much better than I expected.

The fully elited version features a single 37mm cannon and a single 20mm. There is a rear gunner with a 7.92mm gun. It carries two 250kg bombs for a cumulative damage of 8800.

Flying it reminds me of the german Bf 110 C-6, except this turns much better. The guns pack a good punch, and with the surprising maneuverability, it can handle the 'melee' around a cap quite well. I tried it against bombers and a player bomber and it had no problems with them, although it was beginning to get sluggish at the higher altitude the bomber operated in.

You get a free camo scheme with it, which quite honestly is garish in green, yellow and orange, but it's free. Pilot + gunner with 1 skill. Overall, a big thumbs up and I look forward to the rest of the line.

Got my T7 Ki-93 and I think I have similar impression with you.

When I first saw their huge guns I thought that they would have trouble hitting the broad side of a barn, but in fact they are a lot better than what many would think.

I mean, yes, they would have to resort to their secondary weapons (and lose 2/3 of its firepower) when facing smaller aircrafts (i.e. LF and MR), but they serve as decent HF killers as well as ground pounder hunters.

Yeah, I'm not sure they're for me, but I respect those derp guns. Even the bot Japanese heavies have eaten my lunch. I just remember bombing targets in my IL-20, and I felt two hard CHUNK CHUNK hits, and I was like "what the holy hell was that?" and there goes a Ki-93. I think that's the right one? The tier 7? Yeah, that hurt something fierce. I might have to try them just to see what the noise is about :P

I just had a pop up in the game flash by that said I lost the op order for the Ki-102 (I think, I only caught a quick glimpse) was removed because it timed out.  I never had an op order for that plane.  What new torments do they have in store?

Yes, the Ki-93 is the tier 7. I wanted to start at T5 myself to have something to look forward to rather than outright get the T7.

Seems like the transition from T6 to T7 is a shift in playstyle. Both Ki-45 and Ki-102 have very high DPS, rapid fire large bore guns. The cannons on both are very short range- just slightly longer range than .50 cals but completely hilarious, two-shotting fighters and so on. Ki-102 is a real dream to play.

Ki-93 can opt to take a lower DPS, but much higher range cannon that turns it into an aerial sniper- very good at killing bombers with minimal damage taken. Hard to say how good they'd be at high tiers (if they're ever added). Many people don't even like 30mms.

I got mine last night and flew it until Elited. I chose not to install the bombs because they lower its speed.

My favorite aspect of this plane is its maneuverability. I first noticed it while facing them in combat. Last night, I quite easily out-turned a Hurricane II in a horizontal dogfight.

The guns are nice, not as limited as those on the Bf 110 C-6, but I have not two-shotted any fighters.

I just got the Ki-45 yesterday, only jumped into 1 battle, but snagged 13 kills and 14,480 points. She's a nimble little minx with a real mean right hook. I felt rather sorry for an enemy I-17 pilot. I nicked him with the 20mm, then BLAP with the biggun, and he just evaporated. I like the combination of maneuverability and speed, seems like a MR/HF hybrid.

I am flying it without external ordnance.  The missions to get it were fun, and other than a run of games where I couldn't buy a turret kill, I did it in about three hours.

I find it a joy against other HFs.  It will easily turn inside them.  The guns are good, and hit hard, plus the overheat cycle isn't really all that bad.  They perform very well against GAA, and the only downside is that you can get overconfident and forget to run them like a heavy fighter.  I was able to turn inside a FW-190, which made my whole morning.  But any other turny fighter will just eat you up.  And if you don't get the drop on the P-38F, he can boom and zoom you to death, easy.  Crit that engine, folks.

Edit:  When they become tree planes, I am looking forward to moving along the tree.  I need to play it more so that I build up a bank of XP.  And heck, I am collecting T5 HF right now (SE-100, Bf-110E), so maybe I'll keep it!

Ki-102 is blapp city. Is exceptionally entertaining when people think they can win a head on pass against you.

You would pick my worst battle of the day!

You can see at about 2:30 that I crashed. I was diving at a GAA and my mouse chose not to respond, which set the tone for the rest of the battle. It was one of the incidences that compelled me to start the "Mouse Problem" thread and join the joystick thread. After that, I watched the sectors all turning red. I think I typed "I give up" about that time. When I went for you in the last few seconds, I was also hoping you would continue engaging the Hurricane II and I could get a free shot at you.

Is that camo on the Ki-102 the awarded gift camo or one of the standard patterns?

It's the gift Camo.

I had overcooked my dive on the Hurricane and I wasn't about to blow all my energy trying to make that turn back on it immediately especially since I'd spotted a juicier target - you. I had actually misjudged my distance and your reaction (I couldn't see your name until we were within 800m) so I was planning on taking altitude, levelling out then dropping on you from above but you preempted that with your charge.

What you could have done differently was, instead of continuing with the attack was to dip your nose down and boost under my guns then hit the airbrakes and yank your nose around onto my tail; basically forcing an overshoot because I would have been carrying a lot more speed into the dive so, for the first few seconds of the engagement you would have had the advantage of a smaller turning radius.

There's no guarantee that you would have survived but it would have given you better odds of making it instead of the certain death of a head on (I had the bigger guns more health)

Yes, diving under does usually work pretty well; I've done it successfully with light fighters, especially, but instead of hitting the airbrakes, I slam the pitch-up and boost and come around. I'll try your technique next time.

Actually, I didn't even think we would get close enough to fire by the time the game ended.

I put off getting this for a week, I had the op order all along.  So I went ahead and got it today, equipped it up, take her up for the first time and thought “what a piece of crap”.....

Then I looked and you could upgrade it.  So I quit for the night, I think I was to tired to be playing any more.  With the. Enter guns it should be ok....

I like it.  It does a pretty good job, and I might spend some time grinding it.  When it becomes part of the tech tree, I may even work up the line.

Since I got the Ki-102, it's become my favorite plane, along with the Ki-84 Hayate.

Thanks, Fox for pronouncing my name correctly in the video (Post #12). I've heard quite a few different pronunciations that somehow manage to get way off.
